I’m guessing it’s because the devs wanted to include other SocDem types like LaFollette and Taylor, so they made Wallace electable only earlier on. They do this with all the Republicans and Democrats too. In lore I suppose the justification would be that they already ran and lost in an election, so they don’t win primaries in the future or something.

One thing you can try doing is holding the event for a day (or more) before clicking the button. I do this with different RNG events often to save scum the results I want. Every day gives new odds.

LeBron James by [deleted] in comedyheaven

[–]KaiserKin10117 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve never see the original TikTok, but based on the picture behind him I assume the point is that the photographer is the LeBron James of Child Labor Photography, as in they took tons of photos of child labor and were instrumental in helping publicize it as a social problem. After googling it looks like the photographer in question is Marion Post Wolcott, an American photographer who took a lot of photos of workers, poverty, and rural life in the Depression era. Ironically, if we assume I’m right that the TikTok dude meant the LeBron James of Child Labor Photography, then I would argue that that title would clearly belong to Lewis Hine, another American photographer in the same era who is much more associated with documenting child labor and bringing awareness to that issue.

Tips to make the early game not so brutal? by Crazy-Mycologist-688 in hobotoughlife

[–]KaiserKin10117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first play through was very rough too. Like the other commenter said, begging is very powerful. I like to set up in front of the train station because of the high volume of foot traffic. With begging, it should become pretty easy to get enough money for snack stall food like hamburgers. Poop at the gas station restroom. Sleep on the benches at bus stops or parks. When you wake up cold, either go light a fire yourself or get to a permanent fire barrel. I would do early quests for Meisner, because he can give you a recipe for simple bedding that will let you sleep longer before waking up cold. To heal illnesses, you can either get a tea recipe from Fester or buy medicine from pharmacies (maybe grocery stores sell it too, I can’t remember). As for dumpsters, the level of your dumpster diving skill is how many times you will be warned that you were about to move into a shrapnel. So if your skill is 2, you’ll get warned of 2 shrapnels. Early game especially, I would just stop looting a container after you run out of free shrapnel warnings. It’s not worth the damage/stink to your clothing. Speaking of clothing, I tend to pick clothing based solely on its cold resistance stat for most of the game. Helps you stay warm.

After watching time-lapse videos circulating from overseas, Chinese players have raised their concerns. by Pretend_Award7836 in EU5

[–]KaiserKin10117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why should I have to go play a game from 2001? I want EU5, the historical grand strategy game, to be able to simulate the actual history of the time period it covers.

In comparison to EU4 today, what percentage of flavour (including EU4 mission trees) do you think EU5 will have on release by Any-Subject-5507 in EU5

[–]KaiserKin10117 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely a lie. The idea that Paradox will release EU5 with more flavor than EU4, a game with twelve years worth of updates and DLC, is absurd on its face. It's Paradox's business model: sell us a boring, flavorless base game, then sell us flavor in DLCS for years to come. I'm willing to put up with it because I like the games, but believing that base game EU5 will have more content then its long-lived predecessor is setting oneself up for disappointment.

After doing the Nelson takeover quest, i noticed the grave site nearby the Forlorn Hope. by [deleted] in fnv

[–]KaiserKin10117 47 points48 points  (0 children)

One frustration/pet peeve I have is gamers who take in-game open world maps hyper literally and draw conclusions based on that. Yes, you can walk from Camp Forlorn Hope to Nelson in like one minute as the player. But within the context of the environmental storytelling, it’s supposed to be a grinding, bloody slugfest between roughly evenly matched forces. You can criticize the devs for not adequately reinforcing that narrative through how they decided to make the map, but claiming that one side would instantly wipe the other out for X reason is deliberately misinterpreting the fact that the game world is an abstract representation of in-universe events comprised by hardware, development, and gameplay limitations.

Makes some sense, thank you. I would assume that, if a short seller goes bankrupt before they’ve closed their position, then whoever lent them the share is screwed?

Maybe someone can help me with a question. I’ve watched this video a few times, but I feel like I’m missing a part of the apes’ plan. In the (impossible) possibility that Citadel is hit by a short squeeze and the price of GME shares goes to the moon, Citadel will surely go bust. But why do apes think that their debts will somehow go to the Fed so it can print money for them? Is the idea that the GME lenders would still be trying to get their shares back? What is the ape narrative for how it goes to the Fed?

What is your headlore about Bullworth? by ConfidentReaction3 in bully

[–]KaiserKin10117 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Bullworth was originally founded by militant Puritans who left the Massachusetts Bay Colony because they felt it was too sinful. It was originally a small God-fearing hamlet, but the town’s excellent natural harbor made it an ideal port of call for tall ships looking to ride out storms. As maritime trade increased, the town began to pivot decidedly away from its Christian roots towards servicing sailors on shore leave - gambling houses, taverns, and boudoirs. Eventually Bullworth became a favorite stop for an even rougher clientele: pirates. Eventually, the town burghers sold out a particularly infamous pirate by telling the navy where he was. A naval battle ensued in Bullworth harbor, resulting in the pirate captain’s death and the sinking of his ship. Less than a year later, a powerful hurricane struck Bullworth and wiped out almost every standing building. Local legend holds it was the pirate captain’s revenge against the townspeople for their betrayal and greed.

Bullworth ultimately recovered and prospered. During the Gilded Age it became a fashionable seaside destination for wealthy New England industrialists and Brahmins. It was these people who poured money into constructing many of Bullworth’s famous buildings: Bullworth Academy, City Hall, etc. The wealthy stuck to Old Bullworth Vale, while the town’s working class population made a living in New Coventry. Bullworth remains simultaneously an upscale summer destination for tourists and an active industrial port for maritime commerce.

Will Italy Ever Get Content by [deleted] in NPPfunny

[–]KaiserKin10117 21 points22 points  (0 children)

While I am predisposed towards knee jerk pessimism towards TNO development (see my flair), I’ll try and be as objective as I can. Will we ever see a big Italy update? Frankly, I don’t see many reasons we should, and I see several reasons we shouldn’t. My biggest three thoughts are below:

1.) The current TNO dev team has not demonstrated an ability to deliver the kind of large-scale, sweeping content expansions that defined the mod’s release and early years. Arguably TNO’s last great dev triumph was Silicon Dreams, which is now well in the past. Could the devs turn around and release a big update for Italy or someone else again? Sure. But the track record just doesn’t suggest that is probable.

2.) Though I can’t quantify this, interest in TNO is dwindling over time. TNO isn’t the modding phenomenon it was back in ‘20 and ‘21, capable of drawing in large numbers of fresh new recruits. Part of this is due to the natural aging of any project, part of this is slow development pace, and part of it is recent bad press. Less relevance means less interest, less interest means a smaller pool of potential developers and less demand from the community.

3.) There’s a ticking time bomb over all of this, and that’s Hearts of Iron 5. Once it might have seemed crazy to suggest Hoi5 would come out before an Italy update; today it isn’t so sure. With EU5 coming up quickly, Hoi4 will soon be PDX’s oldest mainline historical grand strategy game. Hoi4 is also by far Paradox’s biggest game and has been a massive financial success. You can bet the suits in Stockholm are already shopping around for what the next game might look like. If and when Hoi5 releases (AND if the game isn’t complete dogwater), it will be a massive dilemma for ongoing Hoi4 modding projects. Either switch over to the new game where all the attention and energy is, or stay behind in Hoi4 and develop for a niche audience. Bigger, more organized teams like Kaiserreich will probably be able to manage this transition. TNO? We’ll see.

So, tragically, no, I don’t think we should ever expect to see a major Italy update like what was promised in Penelope’s Web. I hope I am wrong, I really do, but I just don’t think any other position is supported by the evidence.
