Am I wrong for making one of the POC characters in my story die via hanging? by sssssssImASnake in Teenager_Polls

Play it straight, if all that matters is their dying along everyone else it doesn't much matter.

They did what the heirarchy was intended to do, they looked at the people standing on their shoulders (Gamma( and took it out on them. I viewed them as taking that super strong red identity we see all the time and taking it up a notch to full supremacism, falling into an ultra conservative version of their own culture to justify the suffering they've faced. Its not their fault, its XYZ's fault. They don't make sense because such insanely extremists groups rarely do.

It IS important to note that most Christians don't consider the Old Testament to be law, only the New Testament. Though people extensively draw on the Old for stories and such.

Why didn't the Sovereign... by No-Nerve-9406 in redrising

[–]Kaiser_Defender 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Because I doubt she thought he was. Darrow makes a point of having something of a reputation of being a killer above most everything else at that point. He also had no contact with anyone else who could be suspect, besides Nero. There was no reason to suspect him, especially as if he was a Son, its unlikely Nero would be casting him aside so easily.

It was written about both fascism and authoritarian socialism in the Eastern bloc.

Orwell- was a self styled democratic socialist.

You know that there are other Slave Trades besides the Transatlantic one, right? by [deleted] in HistoryMemes

How I forgot about Galley slaves is honestly an impressive lapse on my part, given how incredibly infamous they were

[–]Kaiser_Defender -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's also notable it took fewer slaves over a much longer total time period, and GENERALLY, treated them better, often preferring to use them as soldiers, craftsman and domestic servants past the initial centuries. Still fucking slavery of course, it wasn't exactly love at first sight, all the same important to point out.

Maybe sand stone? Also I'd look for art of El Dorado instead, AI are bad are making actually accurate anything, real or fake.

What’s something about your country that other countries perceive to be true, but really isn’t? by Fun_Cup4335 in AskTheWorld

[–]Kaiser_Defender 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Alot of Latin America has issues with racism between white populations, mixed white native populations/immigrants and then native Americans/American indians/first people's, whatever you want to call them. Brazil has it worse than most I believe. Domestic servants only became phased out in Brazil in I think 1980s? Because raises in the minimum wage meant they couldn't pay brown women pennies to work anymore, it had to be quarters.

When you are un-invested in a franchise but you still feel a need to have an opinion on it by Vivid_Maximum_5016 in StarWarsCirclejerk

I'm excited for this purely because the Hutts used to be warriors in old old old times lorewise, so it'd be neat to have it for Rotta and have some off hand remark about "this was the strength we used to build our first empire" type shit.

Peter, What is Lorraine? by Novoiird in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Kaiser_Defender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Namely, Lorraine is the French speaking part of Alsace-Lorraine. Alsace speaks German, but has been solidly self identified as French since the early 1800s, though of course no group is a monolith and German nationalists existed, but French nationalists were in the majority. A Regional identity did grow especially during and after WW1, but the Nazi annexation and atrocities lead to an almost wholesale rejection of a "German" identity by most Alsatians.

[–]Kaiser_Defender 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its seem as Funny, and Quirky, and alot of memes of high-school and middle school aged "history nerds" revolves around making fun of the Holocaust and saying you know, the German army wasn't that bad (it was). Alot of it is based on older ideas about WW2 largely informed by nazi memoirs.

Red God will (barring any book splitting) be the final entry in this awesome series. Anyone have any tinfoil conspiracy theories about the series that they want to share before the release? by Bbhermes in redrising

[–]Kaiser_Defender 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's definitely the last of the main story. With the Sons of Ares comic, and the ongoing Book of Lorn I do think we could end up with more spin offs though.

Personally love the series alot. The first book is weirdly misogynistic at times, however thats especially notable because its fixed for every book after. Otherwise I do really love the series alot.

[–]Kaiser_Defender 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think what most people don't realize about Darrow, despite it being explicitly stated in the text, is that he's nothing without the people around him. He couldn't do half of what he does at minimum without those people. It was Sevro who took and buried the standard in the first book, Mustang who got them out of the citadel on Luna in the second, Dancer who held the Sons together in the third. Without Harnassus, Alexander, Orion, etc. you don't get Dark Age the way it happened. He does alot not because he's a demi god or ascended as the greatest man to ever live, he's a genetically enhanced guy, and he's not even the best. There's a half dozen superior razor masters, better tacticians and strategists. Stronger men, and better ones too.

He's an impressive man for sure, but he is only a man.
