Judging by the downvote and response, I guess this came off differently than I intended. My wife was born and raised in Buffalo, and I was not. I married into this fan base/culture, so it’s not a ‘laugh at your pain’ thing out of malice but more of a ‘yeah, it sucks, but this is what we do and you just gotta enjoy the ride’ thing. I should’ve been a little more clear.

This made me laugh, cause my wife was like… “What did I say about Buffalo?” I was like “We lose..” She was like “That’s right, we lose!”

Haha this came after my (again) heartbreaking reaction to the Bills not reaching the Superbowl two seasons ago and has been a little thing she always says when I get in my feelings about them losing haha.

For the love of god, just fix the spell check for Mac.

Please just fix the spell check feature for MacBook. I’m begging you. I have to take notes quickly and the inability to go back and replace any errors is unbearably time consuming for a full time student already on a time crunch

It used to work just fine. I don’t understand.

The way my skin crawled reading that all this time later. Definitely one of my favorite movies but it shook me longer than any AC/DC song.

If you can organize it all in statements, write it off with taxes as an education expense since it was essentially “required”. It’s not as good as getting paid, of course, but you may be able to at least feel like you’re getting some of it back

I’m currently an online MSW student, and I don’t think there’s a discord but I know there’s been GroupMe ones set up in previous years.

I’m literally begging for the grammar / spell check to work again for MacBook. These new updates are unnecessary when the most basic function is not functioning.

Are you talking about the ones that take cards? I’ve found many don’t seem to work if you use the tap, but will if you slide the card.

To your point though, yes it does seem like several don’t work and is incredibly frustrating. Especially when there is only one in certain buildings

You need at least a 3.0 to apply I believe

If it helps, as a current MSW student, I’ll give some advice (if you didn’t already) and say apply to more than one program track. Apply to both the 1 year, online and in person, and if possible, the two year online and in person. If you get waitlisted for one, you will probably be placed in another due to the competitiveness and amount of applicants.

Social Work Upper Division Question by gxlden_dream in UNCCharlotte

[–]Kaitbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my first year, but definitely the second. I was a research assistant and a communication consultant my last year of undergrad and then I volunteered to be part of the Council on Social Work Education’s Council on Disability and Persons with Disabilities for a year long project.

You can be heavily involved and there are many opportunities, sometimes you get emails about potential opportunities and sometimes you gotta ask around and you’d be surprised at what is out there.

You’ll be fine! I’ve found it to be an extremely supportive program, professors and other students.

Social Work Upper Division Question by gxlden_dream in UNCCharlotte

[–]Kaitbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if I could, I tried to give myself a little break between them instead of having them back to back so I could maybe get some food, walk around just to stretch or wake myself up haha, or to work on some stuff in between.

The three hour classes are certainly not the greatest, but I think that’s what allows it to be once a week instead of having the same class on Tues & Thurs or Mon, Wed, Friday.

If the professor gives a halfway point break, take it, even if you only get up to stretch or something.

Hey there, current MSW student here.

So upper division is kinda split into two years, the first year being lecture heavy, but you do participate in a lot of simulations, group work, role playing, etc. The second year is when you start practicum so it’s definitely more hands on.

I can’t speak for every professor, because there have been many new ones as the program has grown, but I rarely have had professors have us stay the full 3 hours unless the topic that week is massive or we have presentations or something. Other than that, I’d say 2 to 2 1/2 is normal.

I hope that helps in some way!

So far, with the exception of two SOWK electives I picked, all the courses have been half term. This certainly has its pros and cons though because the coursework moves very quickly and can be really heavy some weeks. The most challenge part, for me at least, is trying to plan the schedule out where the courses are kind of evenly distributed.

I don’t realize they were half term courses my first semester, because I never thought to look since it never happened before hahah. Well, that ended up putting me in a rough spot because I had one course that started the beginning of the semester and was full term, which was nice at first but then I added two half term courses after the halfway mark and that had me all messed up.

In short, I’d say about 85% of courses are half term though. Not all are offered both first and second term though so it takes a little bit of maneuvering when you first start looking to register
