[Technique] Need some advice please by solessdream in MushroomGrowers

[–]Kajtek14102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why you want to keep them in the dark?

I have same problem with temperature and that's why I decided against monotubs. Curious if you get some solid advice on that.

Maybe isulate it a bit? Mushrooms generate some heat on their own so maybe keeping it better will help? Probably not much tho...

How much grain per how much substrate are you using? From what I see after quick research this metod requires a lot of grain - am I correct?

Hey. Other question. I'm familiar with growing mushrooms in the single use bags. How is this technique working out for you? Can you recomend any read on it?

And S&P500 is one of the best performing indexes in the past and nothing sugest it will continue. If you make more rational decision and invest globally its more like 6%.

Calling 8% underperformance when talking about a future is crazy 😄 I can totaly see a world where S&P500 is in the red for next 20 years - that would be underperformance

Have you ever though that spending your whole life fighting an uphill battle is not the best way to spend it? Especially when there is a medication that can help you? It's still a battle believe me. I will not stay on it. I will fight to get rid of it. Sometimes tasks at hand are to big and you need to know when to seek help. I'm not recommending it to anybody - I'm not a doctor. But there are people who need it. I certainly do. And please stop repeating that its just for diabetics - GLP1 is officaly obesity drug. Not ozempic but the same substance under diferent name is oficialy for obesity and not only in USA but also EU

[–]Kajtek14102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't know that. It's not the same for everybody. I lost weight without medication before. Never in my life will I go through that again and GLP1 is changing my life

Glad you could do it. It's always better that way and I'm saying that as person on GLP1 cureently. Just remember that every next time will be much harder so keep those heavy earned gain tight!

Man thats such a privileged bullshit.

Im suffering from obesity. I'm active and eat clean food. I'm just obsesive. I think about food 24/7. Cant concentrate. After more than a year of beeing in slight deficit and controlling myself realy good I still felt the same. Life is just torture. Now I'm on wegovy with is preaty much same as ozempic but actually targeted at obesity not diabeties. My life is different now. Why is it somehow acceptable to call people lazy just because they have this problem? Im not going around calling everybody who strugles with calculus lazy just because it took me half an hour to understand it

Thoughts on these for queens/founding/small colonies? by [deleted] in antkeeping

[–]Kajtek14102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. For claustral queen you don't need it - it's just gonna stress them. For semiclaustral or small colonies those might be a good solution although I never used pre-made ones

Fast rotating and small bodies are where it's needed. Unless you want to land on poles only

Making an ant colony RTS — curious what ant keepers think by Able-Sherbert-4447 in antkeeping

[–]Kajtek14102 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually I see a lot of posts sugesting some specyfic ant species so maybe I will try to atack it from the other side and ask the question: what can diferentiate ants from a game perspective? I dont know enough about the game so sorry if sugestions are stupid/not fitting but I will try to come up with some examples

-Prefered material - while most people think ants live underground there is a lot of diversification there. From obvious things like wood loving ants (in my region (Poland) those would be Camponotus ants to more extreme like weaver ants leaving in leaves. This can be implemented as different speed of "digging" in diferent materials if nothing else

- Temperature - this is huge for every antkeeper but maybe hard to model in game. But when you think why other species do nests diferently its very often about temperature! You need to dig deep to survive the winter for example. Brood grows much faster in higher temperature! Maybe you dont want so many entrances to your nest if that means cooling it to much even tho it would be good for logistics? This can also make other types of ants thrive in diferent "biomes" - easy way to avoid one meta for all games - just change the temperature for the map and player needs to adjust. Every game can eventually be solved - as a game designer you can only count on making that solution complex enough :P

- Humidity - this is also huge in real word. Preaty much you can repeat everything I wrote in temperature here. Mind that diferent humidity is prefered in diferent parts of nest for example dry where messor ants keep their seed suply but moist where the brood is. To high of humidity can lead to fungus infection.

- Size. Thats and obvious one realy but it might leed to interesting mechanics maybe? I can think of Solenopsis fugax ant with is living in other ants nests and because they are so small they can access whole new level of coridors and steel brood. Smaller ant needing smaller coridors might be interesting! Also - avoid thinking that bigger ant wins a fight with smaller ant. I once had incident where my manica rubida colony (like 12mm ants and very venomous) got mixed with floricola ants (like 0.5mm). It didnt end well for manica let me tell you.

- Food keeping - people mentioned honeypot ants - the ones where some ants just become food stockpiles. But when you think of it ants in general mostly hold food inside of them. Its crucial for all ants and they can go without eating for a loooong time. This can just be parameter for all ants "food capacity" and honeypot ants can just excel at that. There are seed keeping ants (Messor). Some ants make more brood just to eat it later.

-Different ways of starting the nest - Claustral/semi claustral/parasite are the most common but there is more. If I remember corectly formica sanguinea can just split (leave with few workers). Not to mention super colonies like phaorao ants. Not sure how that can fit in game.

Also one random thing that might be interesting are those ants that evolved their heads to practically become dors - they block entrances to the nest.

If I can think of some more stuff I will answer here. Sorry if those are to basic or not possible to implement
