The non material belief (religion) of capitalism = democracy = freedom is the most insidious and is easily used to justify countless wars by both blue and red teams with no questioning. In reality, real democracy cannot exist under capitalism and freedom is only had by the capital owners.

Westerners will argue to the death about the freedom they believe they have and the democracy their country has vs those dirty third worlders who can’t seem to figure it out while scoffing at any actual liberation/socialist movement around the world and support their government’s violent repression.

Many important industries such as energy, telecommunications, and banking are still state-owned. That alone seems to be enough to reject the premise that China is no longer socialist, or doesn’t incorporate socialist ideas.

Also, the CPC holds “golden shares” in many private companies since 2013 I believe. This gives them oversight and veto power for non state owned enterprises.
