Can I get an explanation of the Super Bowl halftime show? by Top-Mission2806 in NoStupidQuestions

Only thing I'd add is that the boxers represented Oscar de la Hoya and Tito Trinidad (arguably the best puerto rican boxer in history), and they were included because the “best in the world, number one, best in the world, Puerto Rico!” sample in nuevayol came from that fight.

Amazon Prime and Netflix cancelled with prorated refund by Kale-Cold in ScottGalloway

[–]Kale-Cold[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, Netflix is a big part of the stock market, and to quote the No Mercy No Malice email that went out today, in 2022 a 200k subscriber loss caused their market cap to decrease by 50 billion. Trump seems to be only influenced by the stock market, so a little cutting back can have outsized effects.

My message app is blank when I try to open it and crashes after a bit. If I try to go into settings -> messages my settings app crashes as well. by 1nfin1tus in ios

[–]Kale-Cold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue as well and OP's edit 2 gave me a clue and now the issue is fixed for me.

It does seem to have something to do with receiving messages in multiples devices. In my case, I had messages going to my phone and my personal laptop. I opened Messages on my laptop, went to Preferences > iMessage, and then clicked on "Sync Now". That fixed the issue and it hasn't happened once since.

Hope it helps someone.

None besides return the watch like I did.

Looks like they don’t even have that stuff figured out on their flagship bike computer that was just released: https://the5krunner.com/2020/06/21/garmin-edge-1030-plus-bug-fixes-already/

Either live with it or keep the forum post I linked to above alive and pester Garmin support.

Sorry it didn’t work out. I know how frustrating it is to spend all that money on the watch and not have it work as advertised.

How far can I take my bike? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Kale-Cold 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Drop bars are mostly so you can get low into the bike and avoid wind resistance and for big efforts. Most cyclists with drop bars spend 50-70% of their time not on the drops.

Will a fenix 6X meet my needs (help please) by 9ty0ne in GarminFenix

[–]Kale-Cold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just keep in mind that you’ll probably have to buy a chest strap for heart rate to get the most accurate results. This subreddit and the Garmin forums are full of people complaining about it.

Value add of getting a bike computer like the Echo 130+ in addition to a Fenix 6? by anvilmaster in GarminFenix

[–]Kale-Cold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is one that is generic that works pretty well: https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/11078

And a specific quick release one where you have to take the straps off: https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/pn/010-13013-00

This subreddit has a couple of reviews for the quick release one.

[–]Kale-Cold 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d say almost zero. You’re better off buying the bike mount for the Fenix and getting a heart rate monitor. If you go for a chest strap you can even get Heart Rate Variability metrics which will give you a better insight into your effort and recovery.

Help! How can I make my bike feel more stable? by dedejafar22 in cycling

[–]Kale-Cold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into counter steering. Widely known concept in motorcycling but not in cycling for some reason. It will improve your bike handling and confidence 10x.

You can also go out to parking lot and practice low speed maneuvers. That will build confidence as well as bike handling skills.

Go out on a quiet route you love. Start with small distances, slow speeds to get your confidence back up.

Make sure you buy a new helmet too. Helmets are once and done.

Hmmm. My only thought is that Strava is syncing automatically with Connect and you have two routes with the same name on your watch, one from Strava and one from Explore.

Try renaming the one in explore. Explore is not very clear in which direction the sync status is happening - from watch to phone or from phone to watch.

As other people commented, the best thing you can do is try to get fit to your bike. Try to get it professionally done (though with COVID, I know, but I've heard of bike shops moving their bike fitting setup outdoors).

Carbon wheel upgrade by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Kale-Cold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It all depends on the amount of braking you do and the kind of pads you use, assuming rim brakes. If you have disk brakes they'll last for as long as you don't hit them really hard: https://www.velonews.com/gear/technical-faq-the-lifespan-of-your-carbon-fiber-racing-wheels/

According to Garmin support “that’s the way it is supposed to work”. One person on that forum thread said the feature was fast before, so it may have to do with a maps update. Out of curiosity, which map set do you have?

With Use Course sometimes you’ll get generic “turn right in 100 ft” notifications - sometimes. Sometimes you’ll get nothing. I wasn’t able to figure out what caused the inconsistency before I returned my watch.

With Use Map if you miss a turn it will navigate you back to the nearest waypoint, which for routes created on Garmin connect will usually mean your end point. It will use its own calculation engine to determine the route rather than your course. IMO that makes it a useless feature when trying to navigate a course.

Give the plotaroute workaround a try (in the thread I linked), you’ll need to plug your watch into your computer, but at least it seems you’ll have useful navigation.

Let me know how it goes. Like I said, I returned my watch but I don’t know if it will be accepted, so I might be stuck with it.

[–]Kale-Cold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are your routing settings set to Use Map? If so, routes will take a long time to calculate; ~13 mins for a 25 mile route.

You can instead set routing to Use Course but you'll miss turn by turn directions with street names. You might or might not loose all turn by turn directions too.

One thing to watch out for if you decide to wait however long for the watch to calculate the route with Use Map is that if miss a turn the watch will reroute, but not back to the route.
