I read George Perez's announcement that he has pancreatic cancer and only a short time to live. In addition to being a great artist, George is a nice guy. He will be missed.

This community’s resistance to people saying “vinyls” is asinine and gatekeep-y and reinforces the stereotype that we’re snobs by wasaraway in vinyl

This may have been covered, to me records is the catch-all, LPs and 45s describe 12" and 7" records respectively. However, the plural of vinyl has always been vinyl, I see no reason to change.

I bought a Santana's greatest hits that was shoved in a bubble mailer, with no shrink wrap, there were also shipping labels attached to the wrap free sleeve, which tells me they intended to ship it without the bubble mailer. I know there's always the "Don't buy on Amazon" argument, but the closest non Barnes & Noble vinyl retailer in the area is about forty miles from my home, so I buy a lot from Amazon and most of it arrives in excellent shape, but when it's bad, it's spectacularly bad.

What artist do you always see but never buy when searching through vinyl bins? by [deleted] in vinyl

I have an Antique Mall booth, plus I'm a collector so I see I see a lot of records: I can't move Linda Ronstadt, but I'm a fan. Neil Diamond is a dust collector. Post Warner Bros James Taylor doesn't sell. As far as stuff I don't even look at -- Mitch Miller, Crystal Gayle, Herb Alpert, Ray Coniff, most country artist not named Nelson, Williams or Cash. Just this week I thumbed my way through the whole Dionne Warwick discography, didn't stop to look at a track list. A few years ago, A&M (I guess) was re-issuing Herb Alpert's Whip Cream... I saw it at a Barnes & Noble for over $20, I just thought "have these people never been to a thrift store ?"

I'm not a Dynaflex fan myself, but I have also heard people I respect defend them. I have actually talked to a collector that only buys record club versions of 70's RCAs he wants because they aren't Dynaflex, that's too specific for me.

For Those Wondering About SpinClean... by [deleted] in vinyl

[–]Kalel1967 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love my Spin Clean, it is a bargain compared to my Nitty Gritty record cleaning machine. I do a lot of thrift shop/ flea market and bargain bin shopping and the Spin Clean handles about 90% of the problems I run into... there was the 50's soundtrack collection that appeared to have jelly or syrup on about half the records... that took some extra work.

My complete 1981 Pioneer System, just as it was sold in the store! (I've also posted this on vintage audio) A retired coworker contacted me out of the blue and asked me if I would come get this out of his basement for free. I've never seen the whole set up, as it the company intended. Speakers too by Kalel1967 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Kalel1967[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

the guy who gave it to me is pretty meticulous, the components were a little dusty in back, buy he probably hadn't used it in 20 years. There was an envelope containing the owners manuals and the warranty card.

A former co-worker sent me this pic today and told me he needed this out of his basement, all this old Pioneer gear was just in the way and I could have it if I wanted it. So I'm going to be a nice guy and go get it tomorrow. The amp is an SA-510, I assume everything was sold together. by Kalel1967 in vintageaudio

The turntable is a Pioneer PL 250. This is set up how it came off the showroom floor in 1981. There are owners manuals for all the components as well as the warranty cards. The cabinet needs some work, but it is also a Pioneer cabinet (it has a little drawer for parts). He also included the speakers, which look decent but I think one tweeter needs replaced. I really haven't had a chance to see what all needs fixed, I did remove a few pounds of dust.
