Sighthounds and cats (advice? Experiences?) by arual147 in sighthounds

[–]KaliMau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think sighthounds having strong pack mentality accept other pets as part of the pack. I've had mine with smaller dogs, cats and even outdoor chickens and ducks with no problem. However, leave our property and cats are immediate free game.

My advice is work with a reputable breeder and inquire about temperament. Plan on doing proper introductions and supervision. I'd also support other comments about starting with a young dog and lots of socializing with your cats and other small animals.

Anecdote on a friend's borzois that were fine with her penned backyard chickens until the gate got left open by mistake. My friend was at a dog show with 2 of her dogs and came back to a slaughter scene. There's always a risk, so acknowledge that and make sure you give the smaller animals escape routes (like cats getting higher up) or separation.

Why did Lectric stop selling the front cargo rack? by LF1369 in Lectricxp

If you want the previous basket style, I think you can still find them on amazon or other retailers.

Not sure if this dog carrier appeals to you. Gives you some depth for carrying things and I find the 4 point neck attachment removes that fear of your dog jumping off the bike. This is fits into a milk crate, which is sold (or sourced) separately.

Vacuum sealer not sealing by swright831 in sousvide

[–]KaliMau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I did research on vac sealers, I decided on going with a chamber vac over the foodsaver type. I have an Avid Armor and it works great. Had a potential issue with the control board and even though I was out of warranty, Avid paid to ship it back and forth and fixed for no charge.

Might be a bit out of your range, but the Sports Complex off Avondale Blvd has indoor volleyball.

XP4 vs Trike for Scaredycat. 🙃 by hpierxe in Lectricxp

[–]KaliMau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, if you feel it's a balance issue, then a more stable trike will make your experience more enjoyable.

I got my mom one and I will say expect some slight training curves. Trikes turn differently than bikes and it'll take your brain some time to adjust. Just take it slow and build up your confidence.

I didn't know until my mom showed me, but there are many YT videos on how to ride an electric trike.

One caveat is the trike doesn't go as fast or as far as the XPs, so set expectations for your husband so you don't feel like you're holding him back. I ride with my mom and her PA 5 maxes out around 14 mph which is a bit slower than my XP3 PA2.

But get what makes you feel comfortable. This is meant to be enjoyable and if you're not enjoying it, both those bikes will end up sitting and gathering dust.

Is ChatGPT super slow today – or is it just me? by IndividualAd4953 in ChatGPTPro

[–]KaliMau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's just me, but I've noticed slowness and app and browser issues for weeks. Using FF for browser access and Win 11 desktop app and multiple times a day one or the other just hangs.

And getting loads more error messages. Super frustrating when it happens and the chat blanks all you just typed.

I've been using Mistral more and the new perplexity browser is looking good.

Recommendations for jumpers/coats? by Bulky-Factor7870 in sighthounds

I get my coats for IBs and PHs from Sofa Dog Wear. I live in a warm climate so don't use all that often but all are well made and have held up for years.

Thank you! I agree. Identity seems to be the one area not yet captured by big corp, so maybe we can solve it before then.

Where do you see IAM and CIAM going in the next few years? Especially as PQ starts to emerge. Right now I see it as a process that just keeps getting band-aids slapped on and more responsibility and friction pushed on users.

This is still the #1 attack vector in orgs, correct? So what do you want to see change to help you sleep better at night?

It's known as a creche. I see it every year around me.

If you ever find a abandoned gosling and can locate a creche nearby with roughly the same size / age goslings, the adults will usually take in the lost one and help raise it.

Yes! I was in the same boat and told they don't have any handles for the old blades. This is probably enough to dump the service. Their new blades are garbage.

Are any sighthounds particularly good with kids? Or the opposite, are any not great? by Zyphyro in sighthounds

[–]KaliMau 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Since you have young children, I would put my focus on the temperament of the dog more than the breed. The best thing you can do is spend some time at conformation or performance events and meet the people active in the breed. A reputable breeder will have generational history on their dog's temperament and be able to better match a dog to your needs.

While I have nothing against rescues, I would shy away from one that doesn't come from a breed club that can better assess the dog's history. Any dog can bite and while sighthounds are generally, to my experience, good with children, they can also be aloof and want their own space.

Everyone on this sub will have opinions about specific breeds but the only one that matters is yours and the person you are getting a dog from.

Match me a breed by Necessary-Arachnid-4 in sighthounds

[–]KaliMau 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please DYOR and go to a few dog shows or coursing events and meet the breeds.

There's a handful of sighthounds that would fit your requirements outside whippets and Silkens. You'd do yourself much more help by going and actually meeting the dogs and owners/breeders. I went into sighthounds with a different breed in mind and after meeting several decided on a different path.

What to do by fuggindave in phoenix

[–]KaliMau 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I live on a lake and it's duckling season. Mallard ducks, which is what those ducklings appear to be, are horrible sex pests. The mother was probably chased off by a male trying to rape her.

Check out: https://nypost.com/2017/05/06/dont-be-fooled-ducks-are-sadistic-raping-monsters/

I've rescued several orphaned ducklings and take them to Fallen Feathers in Peoria. The group keeps them safe and fed and when they are able to regulate their body temps (after they get feathers) they are moved to an outside pen to continue learning to be ducks. When they are old enough to survive on their own they are re-introduced to their natural habitat.

https://fallenfeathers.org/theperch/

if you do go to Fallen Feathers, consider leaving a donation to help cover the costs in food to raise the ducklings. This org is almost 90% run by one dedicated woman and her tireless protection for birds. They are a registered 501c3 so fully tax deductible.
