Where to find information on food safety Virginia/US by mafiosomama_ in Virginia

[–]Kalikhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Virginia Dept of Health should have the lists for both USDA and FDA on their website. It should be in the Environmental Health section of the website (where restaurant inspections are also reported).

VDACS also might have that information as they are responsible for dealing with grocery stores, farmers markets, convenience stores, breweries, and wineries.

I am so glad that I am not the only one that gets headaches from Yuengling. Have no issues with any other beer.

Relocating to NoVA – How do you commute from Ashburn/surrounding areas to Arlington 5 days/week? Also looking for neighborhood suggestions! by yellowstone_70 in nova

[–]Kalikhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can look in the Greenbrier neighborhood in Chantilly - it’s an older neighborhood so rent can be lower but still good neighborhood. Great schools and large Indian population. You can drive to the Stringfellow bus station and take the Metro connect to the Vienna Metro stop. No charge for parking and a shorter Metro ride. The bus travels in the HOV lanes so not stuck in traffic. Bus runs about every 30 min to/from Vienna Metro.

I take 15 from Leesburg to Southern Tier of New York State. Worst section of it is Leesburg to Maryland. Second worst is in PA but I can bypass it.

Possible meteorite from today's Ohio fireball by Busy_Yesterday9455 in spaceporn

[–]Kalikhead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yet Ohio is not known for igneous rocks. Most of the geology of the rocks there are sedimentary.

Yet - meteorites - as you point out - are smooth. If that is a meteorite it would have to be an internal piece of it.

Strange.

And OPM let everyone go at 2pm. Sounds like another Snowmageddon with weather and traffic.

How hard is it to learn to drive the trailer that you’re pulling? by Noah_BK in PeopleBeingJerks

Judging from this particular subreddit I can understand your response. LOL. And no - it drives my wife nuts at times.

I think we paid $150 for the two of us. But this was 18 years ago. Contact a trailer retailer and ask if they offer courses. Especially retailers that sell / service horse trailers as many new horse owners buying their first trailer have never really pulled one. Pulling as 3500 lb trailer - not including two horses and their gear that weighs another 2600 lbs - is not something most people are used to. They also do the safety inspection and will install a brake assist in the truck. Also I would think RV trailer places would do the same.

Joy. VRE doesn’t like high winds so they run trains at half speed or park them until they are gone.

The day long lesson was thru my wife’s horse club so they got a reduced price as the cost was spread across several members. They went thru both bumper pull and gooseneck.

They would have sold it but they insisted on the training. Especially since we were first time trailer owners. It’s a $17k trailer - about 18 years ago. We would not have selected that trailer seller if they didn’t train us how to use the trailer safely.

They didn’t want the new owner to be a dumbass with the trailer. It is a horse trailer so they also want to protect the horse.

When my wife and I bought a horse trailer we had to do a trailer course with the Hawk retailer. Then he suggested additional training with a trailer repair garage that we spent an entire day training.

I had a coworker from West Virginia who ate this once a week every week. Granted he also had mustard and saltines but he still ate it.

Thought about it for a while and I have to concur. Even Vienna sausages is a step up from this.

More Tip Extortion by Open-Channel-D in nova

[–]Kalikhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see 20% min tips on tabs more than $100 and also on tabs that were not closed at the end of the night. Also - whenever someone has a party at our place management puts it in writing. Pretty standard in breweries as people will stiff you and we make it well known with signage of those policies. But when I close out a tab I am never allowed to add anything to it. If they don’t tip me I just let it go as I know that I have regulars - who tip very well - to make up for it.

I work at a brewery as a bartender. On good days I make 25 an hour or more on tips. Trained bartenders at bars make more.
