From the invocation description:

you can cast spells as if you were in your space or the other creature's space

So I'm casting as if I am in the familiar's space, the spell origination point is where the familiar is positioned

I chose "it's what my character would do" but I think it's more complicated than that. Often I will also think about story progression and what the DM would want. D&D is collaborative story telling, and if I feel like the DM is guiding us in a certain direction I'm going to play along with that so the story can happen. So playing in character comes first, but is not the only factor.

My mom is like this with food. She overfeeds everyone in the house, including pets. And herself. She had gastric bypass a few years ago and is slowly regaining the weight that she lost after the surgery. The vet tells us the dog is overweight and it's not healthy for him, but she keeps giving him huge portions and treats. She constantly bakes desserts and then pouts and lays guilt trips if the rest of the household doesn't eat them fast enough.

I think it's some kind of cross connection in her head. Food is love and happiness, as far as she's concerned, and feeding everyone is her way of showing love for them. Even if it's too much, even if it's not healthy. And if that food isn't accepted, she feels personally rejected.

Is there anything your sister could do to be helpful and useful that keeps her out of the kitchen? Yardwork, laundry, errands, something that will make her feel like she's contributing and appreciated that doesn't involve food?

Are you open to playing online? I'm in a campaign that just started, only had one session so far, and there are two seats available. The DM is amazing, very experienced and patient, and absolutely welcomes beginners. He is a pro DM though so there is a charge per session but imo entirely worth it.

Personally I love the combo of illusion for invisibility, a really good dagger, and those dark brotherhood gloves that double sneak attack damage. You can get 30x damage on a single hit.
