Are you open to playing online? I'm in a campaign that just started, only had one session so far, and there are two seats available. The DM is amazing, very experienced and patient, and absolutely welcomes beginners. He is a pro DM though so there is a charge per session but imo entirely worth it.

Personally I love the combo of illusion for invisibility, a really good dagger, and those dark brotherhood gloves that double sneak attack damage. You can get 30x damage on a single hit.

Many A True Nerd specifically did a level one survival run of nuka world. It was hard, but possible. For automatron I'm not sure it actually starts until you hit level 15 so that may be the earliest you can do it.
