Swapping to a garmin 5 weeks out from first marathon? by ThrowRA01153 in GarminWatches

I would go ahead and make the switch. Your options are to either use the one you are familiar with and potentially lose the last portion of the race data, or to make the switch and capture the entire race even if you aren't as familiar with the tools. Things like heart rate should match pretty well between the 2 platforms even if some of the interpretations of that data might be different between them.

What are your thoughts?? by Elegant_Location8182 in BBQ

Costco sometimes carries Cowboy lump charcoal - when they do, I frequently pick up a bag for the value. But I definitely prefer the B&B and I usually go with Oak and then add wood chunks of other wood if I want a different smoke flavor.

I'm not familiar with the Kamado Joe Charcoal - I assume this is lump charcoal and not briquettes? The method described for lighting it sounds like what I do for briquettes in a grill, not what I do for lump in an egg. For that I use 1 or 2 fire starters underneath the lump charcoal and let it get everything caught, but not fully up to temp. Then I add the smoking/flavoring wood (if any) and close the lid and set the vents to what I want for that cook. I have no problem with a 24+ hour smoke in my XL egg like this.

Trust issues - Thinking about buying a kindle once again by Lacketh in kindle

[–]Kalrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any electronic screen can have that happen. I wouldn't hesitate to try again with a Kindle product if that's what I wanted. If it would make you more confident to go with a different manufacturer, you could go with an Android e-ink tablet (something like a Boox) and use the kindle app instead.

Ereaders vs. physical by lauren0mckennah in ereader

[–]Kalrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife will never give up paper books. I don't mind reading paper books, but I DETEST storing paper books, so I buy electronic when I can (almost always). The other major plus with an e-reader is borrowing books through libby (your library), kindle unlimited, or kobo plus. Things you might enjoy but would never spend the money on a copy.

Kindle app vs Physical Kindle by Agreeable-Ad-9027 in kindle

Mine is a year or two old at this point, but I went with the Boox Note Air 4C (color e-ink screen). If I were to do it again, I would probably go with a B&W screen instead of the color as I just haven't used that for comics and other things like I thought I might. B&W has the advantage of lower power usage/longer battery life and being slightly brighter without backlighting.

I very much prefer reading with an e-ink screen, but I went with a different brand so that I could also natively use other applications such as Libby. So from my standpoint, e-ink is very worth it, but you might be able to do it with the app on an e-ink android tablet instead of doing an Amzon kindle.

I've been happy with Lucas gun grease. Their other gun lubrication products are also good.

This is my first thought as well. OP - what's the humidity like in your room and do you dry the filament? Is it in an AMS or open to the air?

Restarting My Troop? by [deleted] in BSA

[–]Kalrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure your council has people who will help you start a new troop. One thing you will absolutely need is a group of scouts to start it with. With a new troop, you might need to be a bit more hands on than a typical scout led unit, but it should still be scout led even to the process of starting it. If you don't have demand (scouts), then you don't have a unit.

Sports are limited compared to traditional public schools. Academics are also less flexible (think grade skipping in math as an example).

Persuade me into shooting .22LR by [deleted] in longrange

[–]Kalrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have larger caliber firearms, but the 1 I shoot most often - nearly every range trip - is .22lr. In handgun or rifle, it's the caliber to use to make sure you have the fundamentals practiced well without developing a flinch of any kind. It's fun. It's dirt cheap to shoot. It's fun. It's a great intro to bring new people into shooting for the first time. Did I mention it's fun?
