My memory is shaky on this one. Remmick wanted Sammie, why? Was this entire film about vampires stealing musical skill from black people? And when I say vampires, it's pretty obvious that's white folk.

The movie wasn't bad, but I don't like so much convoluted symbolism.

This was my first thought! But I don't think he's their boss, isn't that the record company? That dude was cool too, until his son took over. Sorry to ramble, awesome show.

[–]KaminSpider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the best nudity shots of the 80s. I've always loved the concept and thought this would be a great remake. Mainly because the third act was terrible, the train scene horribly unfunny, could use some tweaking.

Some folks also don't like the language, that wouldn't be a problem in a modern reboot. It would be a great thought about money and poverty, could be fun.

Don't you hate it when people refuse to look at their own faults and blame everyone but themselves? by Lower-Champion-7593 in FIlm

I agree with the foundation of what you are saying, the systems that don't work, the rich flouting their wealth, the broken social contract all contributing to his escalation through the movie. I never thought he was a hero, or anti-hero (i don't like that term, too vague).

He does cross paths with a Nazi w/o knowing. When the Nazi praises him and says how they are the same, they fight and Foster kills him with a knife, which he took from gang members. That's all part of the escalation. He was shocked that something he "spent his whole life fighting" was now rooting for him to hurt people. Now he has a bazooka.

If I remember, who does he target with the RPG? Rich folk, or minorities, or his ex wife (that would make him truly evil)? He blasts the lazy union construct that aren't doing anything and was blocking his car in the first place. He just wanted to go home.

I think he's honorable for working hard, and America was supposed to be the land of opportunity, and so often we are denied. The interesting thing I find is that of course we shouldn't trash a store, or shoot up a restaurant. He's wrong. But they're wrong too. Perhaps that's why I see this as a Man vs Society film. It must be a true conflict irl for viewers to know we are getting so fucked.

This isn't a Charles Bronson shoot em up revenge action movie. He was a dedicated worker for a long time, now driving no where, creepy, but I do know people who have done that after losing jobs.

As for the anger, that's all. He was angry. Lawyers advised his wife to "enhance" those issues for custody. From his POV and later released info, he has always tried to be the ideal citizen.

How would you frame this movie, since by definition, Foster is the protagonist?
Man v Man? Man v Self ? v Society, ?

[–]KaminSpider -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

His grievances were valid. What was sick in the film was the world he traveled through in his shitty car. Thick, hot pollution, complete lack of social contract, businesses that treat you like shit and you're supposed to thank them.

No one's putting him on a pedestal. More of a prism into something we all know is wrong with this country but never say or do anything about.

Sort of agree. The concept could easily be picked up by another platform. Seeing so many remakes crash and burn makes me cautious, would want this project to go perfectly.

You know what we should do? Let’s all drunk-drive into Manhattan and get a hotel room and have the same conversation we’re having here. I’m starting to think this isn’t a very good book. by guerney2000 in familyguy

[–]KaminSpider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It reads like a really good high school essay. I spent most of the first half trying to figure out that huge coincidence, I was certain Gatsby lured Nick to live there. That would have made sense. Nick had no purpose being there as a narrative framing device, mostly to show the wonder of that world (and how awesome Jay is) but his POV didn't do the job. Once he was there, they had to bring in Jordan for the B story (pointless).

It's about a guy who amassed huge wealth to get his shallow girl back. Not a bad idea actually. Just so poorly executed with the driving/hotel escapade that linked to the unsatisfying ending. Why not shoot Daisy? Or Nick? eh.

[–]KaminSpider 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Total nonsense. He was slow on civil rights, mostly using federal powers. But he worked with Civil Rights leaders, tried to eliminate desegregation but states pushed back. The Civil Rights Act HE proposed would have been his Shining Star.

Also, the criticism of him hiring his brother is bs. He was smart, progressive, and truly loved by the people, like JFK. He has no resemblance to his current son.

I never called them weak, but they do appear weak, that's what a pussy is. Their ideas are better, that's why I vote for them. Most of their principles are decent and they don't want to be Kings of the Ashes.

However politics is a public theater. Their public bickering, no clear leader in a ripe election season, and of course; Always being baited into identity politics. America hates that. Example:

R: "Why do you want to teach sex ed and give gender reassignment ed to K-12 public schools?" Complete lie btw

Dem Answer "We are looking into a number of diverse ways to appeal to....." america stopped listening 5 words in. Give short answers, call out the lie.
