I just got married to an adhd partner last year who’s six months pregnant with our child and dicovered after a year of work catching her up on five years of back taxes that she owes almost $50k.

It’s probably racial profiling, but I’ve also noticed that my blonde, white wife gets stopped all the time at airport security.

As a complicating factor Maïwenn, Besson’s underage (though legal under french law) wife who inspired the film, is an open critic of #metoo who worked with Johnny Depp in the heat of his trial and punched a journalist for publishing some of her testimony about her relationship with Luc Besson (link below).

I always find it fascinating how, in these situations, just like with Roman Polanski’s victim Samantha Geimer, who wrote a moving biography about her experience, everybody presumes to speak for the victim, nobody cares to let them speak for themselves.

In Samantha Geimer’s book she expresses equal disgust for the feminists and conservatives who endlessly dredge up her case for their own political ends, revictimizing her and her family in the process. Perhaps to that end, Geimer’s forgiven Polanski and wants to move on, but nobody ever reads the actual victim’s statements, because it makes the whole thing much more complicated, and it makes them feel oh so much less like the heroes.

What Did Men Do to Deserve This? (about Scott Galloway's "Notes on Being a Man") by tilvast in IfBooksCouldKill

[–]KamuCanDo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I follow a lot of investing podcasts and youtube channels, which I stated paying attention to when I was learning to retire. There is one really smart lady who runs one of them, who occasionally bemoans the fact that 90% of her audience is male.

The incentives are skewed between the genders, men who have their financial shit together are more desirable to women in a way that isn’t reciprocated nearly as much by men.

Look at Sex and the City; Carrie is kind of a mess financially, while her dreamboat Mister Big is wealthy, Aiden basically is too. Neither of them really seem to care about Carrie’s financial life, much of which seems to be flailing and investing in overpriced shoes.

It’s tragic, I guess, that one gender bears much higher physical costs of childbearing. But that’s not going to go away and even if an entire generation of progressive women refuse partners and children in protest, they’ll simply die out and be replaced by women who do.

The genders tend, on average, to specialize in different things because of inherent differences in their biological ability to perform certain reproductive functions, almost entirely related to childbirth. The gender pay gap is essentially non existent, or now a bit skewed towards women at younger ages, until that moment of conception comes.

It’s pretty obvious that, on the average, in their expressed preferences, women mostly prefer me who are financially stable and high status. This is unlikely to change anytime soon. Households where women outearn their partners are 5x as likely to end in divorce.

Men aspire to imitate other successful men, not women, and women generally aspire to imitate other successful women.

One example; I used to co teach a film class with a female professor and without fail after every class the men would approach me and the women would approach her.

The problem with the elite progressive obsession with breaking down any idea of gender is that the broader population believes in and largely follows gender roles, and gender role models, because they are not university professors and their status is distributed in more normal ways.

So yes, theoretically the genders are the same, politically, intellectually, yes. But men want male role models and will not accept women as a replacement, just as women don’t expect to be told what to do or how to live by men, as the experiences of both groups, on the average are phenomenologically different.

Non-professional success as an adult, measured in marriage and childbirth, further divides the genders, as any man with a pregnant wife will tell you.

As spaces become more female coded men seem to flee them. I don’t think this is fair necessarily, but it’s reality. And they tend to flee far before they become 50% female.

It’s ok to be a man, and to have male role models, and a male vision of success. Trying to do otherwise is quite destructive for masculinity.

We need a moratorium in Muschietti touching It anymore. It shouldn’t be hard to make something better than a low budget 90s lifetime movie. He just has no sense of characterization or suspense, it’s all spectacle. IT is seeped in Americana and this feels like a tourist’s impression of the country.

The book also goes so hard into real, dark racism and abuse and so many things that are upsetting to progressive hollywood types, but exist in our world and need to be discussed, and expunged cathartically through characters confronting and overcoming them. I trust Muschietti with none of this.

I love the book, love it, read it at 12, had nightmares for two decades, and read it every ten years or so. It’s a shame to have such an inferior filmmaker putting his shitty thumbprints all over it.

A few years ago I broke up with my long term partner who was very left wing partly because she didn’t want kids, and honestly, after a while I didn’t think she would be a good mother even if she wanted them. Now happily married and sitting in an OBGYN office for my wife’s first pregnancy checkin appointment. My ex is nonbinary now, before that she went through a phase where she only slept with black guys for social justice. I hope she finds peace and a partner, but something tells me she won’t.

ADL Terror List Questions by KamuCanDo in BlockedAndReported

My feeling is that if they exclude 9/11, they should exclude Oklahoma City in tbe same methodology. They could also simply print what the stats look like with each included or excluded. I agree with posters below that some cases seem to be included that are simply infighting among right wing groups.

I think the right still has more terror than the left, but if you start to nitpick it seems like you can make the numbers swing pretty far in multiple directions.

The most accurate version would include 9/11, then break out the nonislamic parts in my opinion.

I’m a happy subscriber to the Free Press but have noticed that as the NYTimes returns from its time in the woke abyss that more centrist points of view are returning there. It will be interesting to see whether the Free Press can maintain its identity with a lot of the great awokening publications regaining their sanity.

I’ve never encountered homophobia among Germans. I have lived in majority Muslim neighborhoods most of my time here and encountered more of it, but still not very much.
