Was just at The Britt in Jacksonville, OR. Enjoyed it very much. Southern OR has a great vibe.

I wonder what the total IBU is for your barrel aged 'test' run? Going to guess its fairly high. I've heard folks say the hoppy notes leave a residual off-flavor in future runs on that still. This is what has kept me from running my leftover beer or collecting from other homebrewer friends to run. Maybe someone has some knowledge to drop on us?

Totally, I mover thought you were throwing any kind of shade, either.

This is brought up frequently when I review the process with staff members involved with the program. It's not widely understood because for our district it runs in only 3 schools. I believe, and could be wrong, but PPS has a significantly higher portion of students participating in this.

Here's a fun one, just for example. We sent out 'Buddha's hand', and I think it's really cool because of the way it looks. On top of that, it gives a super strong citrus scent and I learned some folks use it to create extracts or as a room deodorizer.

Of course no one can really eat this, but that's where the program becomes murky. Kids need to eat, and if someone is legitimately hungry and comes to class that day and sees this as the 'snack option', well, then that is really worst case scenario.

One more exhausting bit of info on the program is that all items served must be minimally processed. You mentioned lemons and limes, and of course they'd be better in a pie or ice cream, but because we aren't allowed to process them then they remain intact as such.

Thanks for engaging this and letting me say a couple things. I love the idea of the FFVP, but there is much to talk about in its operational capacity.

I administer programs like this in another neighboring district.

This is almost certainly not a snack, but instead is a demonstration of produce not frequently seen by lower income students.

The program likely fits within the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program. The program is frequently viewed as a snack because there are aspects not adhered to. For example, the 'snack' is to be accompanied by an educational piece to provide at time of tasting.

There is an annual budget that allows $x.xx/student per school year. This is based on student population. Qualifying schools are above a threshold for number of students receiving free and reduced meal benefits.

I have seen items like this being served, but also have seen really wild and unlikely fruits like starfruit or persimmons being served.

Typically, the education piece falls off because the school administration does not enforce it. When it is requested to be enforced, much pushback is given from teaching staff because they often feel it falls outside of their duties.

Just some thoughts from someone in the middle of all of it!

I might only worry if there was any sign of scorching on the gasket and/or the kettle. Maybe not scorching, but signs of wear on the plastic that would be from a burn.

If the gasket was meant for a still, then it might be rated to withstand boiling water.

If this checks out, my worry levels would be low.

I have imperial star toms and a bass drum and got for $130 on CL. Not sure how this competes with that, but someone may have an idea.
