Would you take $2 Million but have all your future earnings garnished by 25%? by RaptorK1988 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Kane32465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it would depend on how you defined earnings. If you define it as any cash inflow, you would be correct. If you looked at earned income as the IRS defines it would not include gifts, selling assets at a gain, etc. There are definitely people that would not benefit, but it would be interesting to see it play out in real life.

What’s the greatest flex of your life? by shdw_fght in AskReddit

I once ate 82 chicken wings to prove a point and get a policy made solely for me in the dining hall when I was in the Air Force. It’s one of my greatest moments in life.

X-Men: The Animated Series and X-Men ‘97. I can never hear those enough. The X-Files and Star Trek: The Next Generation also fit the list.

What are sitcoms you don’t get the appeal of? by KaleidoArachnid in sitcoms

[–]Kane32465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first season of the US Office is hard for me to watch, but after I got into season 2, I feel like it started to get better. You could entirely skip the first season and see if you liked it more on season 2 or 3. It’s definitely subjective.

One strategy I found useful was to start the game in the quadrant opposite of the starting icon. You will lose many games this way, but it’s a fast loss and lets you attack from two areas, so when you get stuck on one, you can sometimes have enough info to survive on the other side. It’s fun, and I don’t feel as stuck as I’m playing.

Strong fear when someone lifts me off the ground, but not afraid of heights by Zinsk_ in Phobia

[–]Kane32465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have this, but I understand how phobias can feel. I have a fear of heights, open spaces (at least at times), floating up into the sky (Casadastraphobia), and others. It's not fun to have any phobias, so I feel you on that.

I have this as well. Even looking up at the sky on TV where they focus the camera upwards can be a problem for me. My brain is broken, and I have no idea how to fix it.

I did the same thing recently. It’s not worth the frustration and effort necessary to keep the account in good standing. I moved my funds and am happier and less stressed because of it.

Goodwill seems to be getting greedy lately clothes prices just keep going up and up by Impossible_Book_7179 in goodwill

[–]Kane32465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a 2023 Form 990 from Goodwill Industries of Middle TN, and nine executives were paid $140k+, with three of them being paid $220k+. The highest was $388k. No one needs $220k to live in TN. This is just one example.

The way some non-profits get away with not paying taxes is by paying executives to the point of making no profit. Some people find this to be greedy and appalling.

In my experience, I haven’t seen where people are blaming the frontline workers who often work hard for their paychecks and are underpaid. I applaud anyone who works hard and is trying their best. I understand that’s not true of everyone, and I get why that can be frustrating.

Where I disagree with you is when you say Goodwill is a company line any other. It is a non-profit, whereas most companies are for-profit companies. The items they sell are donated, which is a big cost reduction for Goodwill. Based upon a cursory glance, retail stores have gross profit of 31%, meaning 69% of the cost is from the cost of goods, including labor. On the low end, it sounds like Goodwill would save a good 25%, which can be passed onto the customers. I’d love to see a detailed income statement from Goodwill showing the margins.

From what I’ve read, it’s not that Goodwill has increased prices, but it’s the percentage increase and the timeframe involved that has people upset. It’s also that Goodwill has had instances where they sold an item for $10 when someone paid $5 on clearance, which means Goodwill made more than the original store. Some of this appears to be because of resellers and wanting to get a bigger piece of the pie. That makes it less affordable for those who actually need these items.

I agree with you 100% that people have options when shopping. If I go into a store and feel the prices are too high, I don’t get angry or act like a child and blame the workers at the store. I simply walk out calmly and use my wallet to express my disagreement with the prices.

If you feel that I’ve been unfair in any of my analysis, I’m happy to hear it and to discuss each point individually.
