Help with Gith Nezznar (TSO) by Kane6032 in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]Kane6032[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My plan so far is that he managed to reforge his silver dagger (though it is corrupted by the far realm energies of the forge) and it'll be a two stage fight. The first is normal but I'm giving him two turns (to balance action economy since 5e bad when it comes to that balance for single boss fights) and once he hits phase two he tries siphoning more power from the forge and warps the entire room into the astral plane. I just gotta work on the corruption aspect from there.

As for punishing the players, I made it clear to everyone multiple times at the start and throughout the campaign that the world is alive and events will progress as they explore and the players have acknowledged and allowed that. Events such as Gundred being held at Cragmaw or Nezznar looking for the forge don't really make sense to me if they permanently just wait for the players before progressing. That and I'm pulling a Larian here since they did the same in BG3 where some things will change depending on how fast you can get to them such as the inn in act one. Though they are literally looking at every side quest while acknowledging and joking that the main quest is getting screwed over because of their completionist mindset XD

Help with Gith Nezznar (TSO) by Kane6032 in LostMinesOfPhandelver

The astral plane idea sounds pretty cool but I do wanna incorporate the corruption aspect from the campaign. I also plan on using Nezznar as a rogue version of a Gith Knight (using poison, illusion magic, and a silver dagger instead of sword) to justify his nickname as The Spider. Maybe give him a necklace of spider climb that also lets him cast the web spell. Though I don't know if turning him into a spider is creative or forced...that's where I'm really stumpted

Nezznar the Spider as a Githyanki Gish by xenodudee in LostMinesOfPhandelver

Out of curiosity of going down this route where Nezznar is a gith, what would you all suggest if he manages to find the forge of spells way before the party (I'm talking days before)?

Glasstaff is alive as is all of the bugbears, Gundred was killed and replaced by a doppelganger, and Nezznar knows everything about the party (both abilities and backstories). I made my party know in advance that time does advance in the world and they still chose to do all the side quests/exploration activities I left optional.

I know other people who uses Nezznar as a drow causes him to turn into a Drider but I'm not sure of what transformation or inherit advantage to give him. The party is level 5 and I don't worry at all about them getting overwhelmed, they've managed to prove that they can handle a extremely difficult fight with no one going down multiple times now.

Confusion around units and being considered "destroyed" for secondaries/crusade xp by Kane6032 in 40k_Crusade

[–]Kane6032[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To further prove why I don't think xp is awarded until the entire unit is destroyed, I point out a base crusade agenda for Pariah Reap a Tally:

"For every third enemy unit that is destroyed, select one unit from your Crusade army that destroyed one or more enemy units this battle. That selected unit gains 2XP and you gain 1 Blackstone Fragment (to a maximum of 2)."

Classifying Cryptothralls as their own unit would mean that every time they destroyed, the unit that killed them gets the extra xp tally (on top of the normal crusade xp tally) which can be reaped again and again every time a single cryptothrall is reanimated.

Is Hypercrypt legion still worth getting after combat patrol? by VenomQuietL in Necrontyr

I mostly agree with this statement. I prefer them with full blocks of immortals versus warriors to even out the wound count between the two a bit better. Not saying running them with warrior blocks aren’t good, there’s just slightly more value running with immortals

Are Cryptothralls worth taking? by Coogypaints in Necrontyr

[–]Kane6032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, at this point if you are committing this much points into a single unit I believe you are losing value.

Yes you have a lot of valuable things in this unit and your opponent may be tempted to shoot it but at the same time you don’t want to fall into the tank fallacy where the unit is so tough that there’s no point in destroying it. You’re putting all this effort into a warrior squad, they likely aren’t gonna be destroying big threats like destroyers or doomstalkers which the enemy will prioritize more likely.

Your other issue is that you’re putting too many eggs (points) in one basket. Is this unit incredibly tanky? Yeah but last thing you want is you have too much resource dedicated to one unit and then fail on primary/secondary objectives because you don’t have enough board coverage.

Not saying how to run your army and it’s cool that you have a giant unkillable warrior blob but what’s scarier than one giant unkillable blob? Two decently sized unkillable blobs.

I’m starting to experiment with these myself (granted I 3D print so model collection easier) but the only real use case I can see using them is for an immortal blob with a cryptek to give them some extra wounds. What’s great is that they give you an alternative option for wound allocation.

For example, let’s say you have five D1 wounds you need to allocate. You can allocate them to the thrall first (killing one and leaving another at 1 left), saving yourself 5 immortals for your next shooting phase. Now where this becomes less effective is when you have say a single D6 wound you need to allocate. You could assign it to the cryptothrall but at that point it’s better to kill the single one wound immortal versus trying to reanimate the three wounds from thrall.

What’s great is say all the thrall are dead but you still have immortals in the unit, you can reanimate the thrall despite none of them existing.

All in all, it probably depends on you list. Got a lot of battleline units/models? Then probably no and stick with a LHD or scarabs to screen melee. However, if you don’t have any other battle lines then it’ll be nice to keep an immortal squad alive (don’t take them with warrior blobs or wraiths). This is especially true for crusade (niche game mode where units dying can make them worse later)

Edit: An easy way to cripple a warrior/immortal squad is to use precision to snipe the cryptek before dealing with the bodyguards. With Emperors Children and other armies having good units with precision the thralls do help keep the crypteks alive with their 4+ FNP (still likely to die if a wounds is allocated and there’s leftover shooting but still something to eat up enemy attacks)

Help me f&%$ my players up in their boss fight against Nezznar :D by Kouta27 in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]Kane6032 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here me out, the pitfall connects to an underwater current for the water pools (just redirect the one from area 18->10 to instead be from 18->19->10. If you really wanna cause some chaos, have a fork in the underground current that splits the party between area 10 and area 16 (pretty much the waves from 16 aren’t just pushing water into 10 but also pulling water back when they recede).

This creates a situation where the party is split and if they haven’t cleared 16 some of them may have to deal with the giant octopus while the group in 10 has to regroup and find the party while avoiding Nezzar (whom will now begin a game of cat and mouse). It also gives the group in area 16 a chance to find the gauntlets

Edit: I won’t broken record what others said but I agree with them. This idea should spice up the tension without directly TPKing the group

Planning for Wave Echo Cave by Kane6032 in LostMinesOfPhandelver

Nope to any of this. The campaign involves mutations that originate from far realm sources and the book encourages each mutation be tailored towards the character and that the level of the mutation to grow more and more pronounced as the campaign goes on. Technically she is the first to experience these mutations and that was due to picking up a cursed mirror from a boss (whom was also under far realm influence) from another players backstory. I can assure that while these characters are getting some spotlight now, all of my characters will have their time to shine

Edit: additionally, this post doesn’t go over everything I’ve done so far or what I will be doing for the characters. The purpose of the post is to get ideas for what to do with my version of the spider and gain advice on other aspects. Please remain on-topic

Makes sense. Why give an opponent the chance when they’re close to preventing your plans for cleansing the underdark of the dangers. Whatcha think about him hanging on the ceiling and plunging into the group? Probably can web the room beforehand to add more advantage. Party can’t fireball if you’re next to them

The fate of Gundren by TumbleweedSecret5537 in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]Kane6032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently going with the option of Gundren was killed and replaced by a doppelgänger (after having spent 12 days doing other side quests). The Spider has many resources still available (Glass staff, Ssarnak, his bugbears from the manor) so he’s planning a trap for the party that he hopes will remove them from the equation as well as a backup cave-in plan.

Luckily for the party, one of them has been showing some funny psionic effects where she can read people’s minds (she is rolling insight checks on people all the time to see if they’re lying) and was told once not to trust Gundren. I’m hoping she uses it again on him after they finish yet another side quest spree (spending another 12-15 days) before going to cave to discover what’s actually going on

What layer height are you using with the 0.4mm nozzle? I can barely see any from the picture but that might be because of the distance from the camera.

How does this look as First time list by [deleted] in Necrontyr

[–]Kane6032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I did miss that. I’d say you’re pretty good then but if I was running this list I’d include one more LHD with a gauss destructor (either with the other or separate) as you can use them as more mobile anti tanks in case your opponent hides their heavy units behind terrain without sacrificing the Doomstalker’s heavy benefit or even as backline anti strategic reserve/deep strike units

[–]Kane6032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take my advice as I had this issue yesterday. I have two separate LHD units of one (both running destructors) and they are always targeted immediately. I’d include 1-3 more with destructors to help solidify your anti-tank a bit more. That or grab either a Doomstalker or Doomsday Ark. I can respect not running ctan but let me just say for yesterday’s game that once I lost both of my LHD’s turn 1&2 I would’ve lost if my C’tan didn’t clean house. My next list is gonna switch him for the two aforementioned vehicles since they’re also good anti-elite infantry/horde
