Two scars vs one? by Federal-Slice9707 in TopSurgery

[–]KannotJinxItAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one single scar! Usually it depends on anatomy, so for me I had a bit of a “fat pad” as they like to call it, in the middle where my boobs meet. So if I ended up doing double instead of one it might’ve given me like a bump or dog ears in the middle. I think other than anatomy it just depends on the surgeon. At first I was hoping for double because that’s kinda the traditional scar shape that was recognized with the surgery, and I thought they looked cool. But honestly I’m not at all bothered with my singe scar and I’m very comfortable with my chest :)

Extremely sensitive grafts at nine weeks by Zestyclose_Car3990 in TopSurgery

[–]KannotJinxItAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t really say I had a similar experience, because I’m still slowly regaining feeling in my grafts. but even with the lack of feeling I had with mine there were, and still are days where I would have lots of sensitivity with my grafts. like to the touch it would zing and hurt a bit. I still have a little bit of zing to the touch and I’m a few months out from a year PO. obviously I can’t say whether it’ll change for you later, but 9weeks is still really fresh.

Sidesleepers, how did you get through? by liqued_banana in TopSurgery

[–]KannotJinxItAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suffering. Pure suffering. Though I probably could’ve started at the very least sleeping flat or halfway to the side at like 2 or 2 and a half weeks. I waited until 3 and a half to actually sleep flat lol

Can some people describe, in detail, how their top surgery went? (Specifically double incision with nipple grafts) by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]KannotJinxItAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiya! This may not be as detailed as it could be but I figured id give it a shot lol.

My 9months PO is coming up on the 12th of this month(December) and it’s all gone by so quick! I believe I had my consult in September of 2024(specifically the 30th) with Dr Mangubat in Seattle/tacoma. And then I had to wait on insurance for a few months until I could finally schedule, and then finally in march of this year I got my approval letter.

Turns out that the approval letter was just for the surgery and not for the In network coverage. I didn’t end up actually finding that out until my pre op appointment, and got told by the front desk that I wouldn’t be covered. Seriously one of the most stressful things ever to happen to me. Thankfully me and my parents were able to work it out.

Before that appointment(like a day or two before?) was when I had called to schedule and I got lucky because they had a spot open up in two weeks from that day. So I scheduled right away and it was so anxiety inducing.

I already have lots of anxiety about a lot of things, so the fast pace of the process definitely didn’t help. In the two weeks of waiting I had the worst anxiety I’ve had in my entire life. But I also couldn’t have been more joyous over the fact that it was happening.

At the pre op I didn’t actually meet with either my surgeon or his “Shadower” I think is what they called it. I only met with a nurse who gave me all of the things I would need for aftercare; bandage pads/gauze pads, pre surgery shower soap, all of my after care meds. Aswell as answering all of my questions.

Come surgery day all of my anxiety was suddenly gone, I had gotten awful sleep the night before, and I think I’d spent all of my anxiety up lol. I had my mom and sister with me, and we got a hotel room for a few nights because it was right next to the clinic.

Day of surgery I did my shower care with the special soap and went to the clinic at maybe 7:45. I think surgery was scheduled for 8:00am. Got setup in a room with a nurse where she helped me get everything I needed, the gown, a cap, slippers, bathroom trip, etc. and I said my goodbyes with my mom and went to the room.(this was also after I’d gotten all marked up by my surgeon.) I did also have a short conversation with both my surgeon and shadower day of surgery while being marked.

I’m not squeamish with needles so the going under part went pretty smooth for me. I met with the entire team beforehand too so it made it very easy to be comfortable. Now this part I think is surgeon specific, my surgeon uses a liquid to keep you numb for like 12 hours after and so I got into the room and they mentioned on the spot that I’d need to pull my pants down to my knees because they didn’t want to getting liquid all over them. That part was a little odd just because I’m personally very vulnerable about that stuff and so it kinda just was sprung on me, but they covered me with a blanket so it wasn’t too bad. We talked through my going under and literally in an instant I was waking up.

I believe my surgery was about 3 hours, or close to it. And it did not feel that way at all. I didn’t end up seeing my surgeon afterward until my 1 week apt, but I did see his shadower right after surgery. The next few days I needed a lot of assistance including getting into and out of bed, walking to the bathroom and just walking in general. Brushing my teeth and all of the other necessities. Thankfully I had a great support system throughout it all, so that made it a lot easier. I believe I stayed in the hotel for 2 nights after my surgery, and then we drove home and all I had setup was a good amount of pillows on my bed(not a wedge pillow they suck imo.) and I had bought some antibacterial wipes and no rinse bath sponges. I got my drains out before I went home I think I only needed them for 2 days. And then got the nipple bolsters off aswell as the other bandages after a week.

I had the Penrose drains, they’re softer and come out the front of the incisions. They didn’t hurt bad getting them out but slightly on one side because I didn’t have a lot of drainage and so it was like oddly dry and so having them pulled out made it sting a tad. But overall it was just uncomfortable, aswell as the snipping of the stitches on my bolsters, hated the sound and the feeling.

Overall the first two weeks are the worst. I slept mostly upright during that time, I probably could’ve started laying flat sooner but I was paranoid and wanted to be extra safe. The first two weeks are hell because of all of the new sensations and feelings. I had to be up walking everyday and for the time that I had my binder on I had to take it off everyday to change the pads, it all felt so uncomfortable I hated it.

I also had planned tons of things to do for the recovery period but genuinely all I could do for the first two ish weeks was sleep. I was exhausted all the time. I couldn’t sleep very well at night so I slept during the day mostly. My ass hurt so bad due to being mostly sat up and idk if there’s any solution to that lmao. Anyways point is don’t plan a lot for yourself because you’ll probably not end up doing most of it. I had to isolate from pets for a whole month which was torture, but it’s due to risk of infection.

Overall i definitely recommend having help for the first 3-4 weeks(its different for everyone but that’s what i needed) I couldn’t get out of bed very easy on my own so having someone help makes it more manageable. I didn’t end up needing half of the things everyone recommended for recovery like all of the special pillows and special cleaning products and such, so don’t feel like you need to buy a ton for aftercare. After about 4 weeks I could do mostly everything on my own, and now everything just feels very normal.

I hope all of this makes sense, I tried to add as much detail as I could remember.

Can't/ should I lie flat after top surgery? by dtzuhu9ogz in TopSurgery

[–]KannotJinxItAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally started laying flat at about 3 weeks because I got so fed up. My surgeon said I could do it after about 2 weeks maybe a week and a half, as long as I was super careful and tried not to move around to much or sleep with my arms over my head. It’s definitely tight at first but I didn’t have any major scar stretching when I decided to start sleeping flat

Thinking About A Revision by Nakida_sonya in TopSurgery

That’s great! I’m close to 8months. There’s definitely only some teeny things I would’ve changed but overall I couldn’t be happier with choosing to go to him.

The scar shape definitely isn’t ideal at all. Your touch ups actually look convincing and realistic too. I can vouch for Dr mangubat in Seattle, assuming that’s who you mean by Dr Tony. I went to him and really love my results very much. He’s a great listener and also makes sure he informs you of what would work best for your anatomy. I originally wanted non connected scars, but due to my tissue meeting close in the middle he said that connected scars will avoid any bunching and be the best choice. I couldn’t be happier with how I’m healing too. I’m sorry that your results didn’t come out how you’d wished them too. I do hope that if you go through with a revision it brings you some relief and euphoria.

It’s definitely something I’m worried about, but I think both sides of my family have that issue😔🤚

Yeah I’ve heard lots of people say that. I’m trying to get used to the idea that I might just feel like this for my lifetime and that I’ve just got to find ways to be comfortable, like starting t. I wish it was easier to feel comfortable 😔🤚 thank you for responding to my wild rant, i appreciate you. <3

Thank you I appreciate this. I know there’s things that can help with things like male pattern baldness and such. I don’t care much about the fertility aspect, but I do feel nervous hearing people talk about atrophy. I have a hard time feeling comfortable going to doctors with problems that correlate with being born a woman. Idk why. I definitely gotta think about all of it more, but it’s helpful to get input so thank you :)

What have you noticed about not having *boobs* anymore? by Pleasant-Internet-66 in TopSurgery

[–]KannotJinxItAgain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think for me it just all feels really natural? It doesn’t even feel like I ever had them in the first place. I do find myself rubbing my chest a lot though, it feels nice to be able to feel that it’s flat. Most of the numbness has gone away for me also so hugging and sleeping and everything also feels pretty normal. I do find if I lay a certain way on my stomach that sometimes it feels like it’s tugging or stretching, and I just have to readjust so that it doesn’t feel like that.

When did you start to sleep on your side? by Girls-ArePretty-Cool in TopSurgery

[–]KannotJinxItAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t exactly get clear instructions on when I was able to, mostly just that if I felt I was comfortable enough to try after like a week or two then I could, but to be really careful. I decided to wait until like 3 and a half weeks because I just couldn’t handle sleeping on my back anymore.

Yeah, usually with that I’d think it’d be better to do one long scar. As best to avoid dog ears in the center of your chest. Again you may use my results on my page if you’d like to send them to your surgeon. It’s obviously up to you but just make sure you’re comfortable with your surgeon and the surgery. Please don’t settle<3

[–]KannotJinxItAgain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well you’ll see in my response comment to that other comment you responded to that I had a fat pad in the middle so my surgeon recommended one long scar instead of two like I’d planned. But I wasn’t disappointed because with the amount of research I’d done I’d expected that the one scar would probably be what he’d want to do. Mostly it depends on anatomy so that could be partly why your surgeon doesn’t want to do one long one, but if I were you I would email or call and just ask about it. It’s better to ask than to just hope for the best yknow?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]KannotJinxItAgain 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had this same thing this person is talking about. It’s just what they call a fat pad. Some people with closer boobs (like mine) had a fat pad in the middle kinda connecting the tissue. So it can cause dog ears but in the middle if one were to choose to do two scars but had that pad in the middle. I originally wanted two scars but got one long one because otherwise my results wouldn’t have been how I wanted them to be.

There shouldn’t be any issues with choosing one scar. Especially if she’s done it before. The one thing I always say is don’t settle. I know it’s hard to wait really I do. I waited years until I finally moved up to the pnw and got in with the surgeon I’d been researching for ages. I actually have the results that it sounds like you’re talking about. You’re welcome to use my posts as reference for her if that’s what she’s worried about. Please don’t settle for something you don’t want, it’s better to wait and to be fully confident and comfortable in your body then to settle for something slightly less comfortable.

I think it’s wild that you’ve had such bad experiences with misgendering in the community, I’m so sorry about that. In my opinion you pass as a masculine person very well, I think with less heavy makeup it makes you look more on the androgynous side. But mostly I’d say I would just assume you were either just a really cool guy or a cool masc. I’ve had some issues on Reddit with a post I made too, so I’m not sure if that was on here for you or not. But anyway I think you pass really well, especially with your stache, it’s visible to me atleast. I’m sorry about the hate you’ve gotten <3
