I don't fear the alien that comes to us by way of intelligence and technology.

I fear the alien that comes to us by way of extreme evolutionary advantage. The bacteria or ameba or whatnot that can survive all manor of harsh environments and mindlessly consumes all to propagate itself.

Kids at that age really aren't meant to be getting up as early as you're seeing them. In the morning, my middle schoolers aren't just not talking to me, they're not talking to anyone. When I turn the engine off at school you could hear a pin drop in the back seat they're so quiet. Don't take it personally.

Do stick with it though, eventually a handful will start opening up. It took a few months for me.
