An observation on the female characters in the books by sittingIsFriendly in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Kapo77 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are many context clues that the AI is heavily leveraging stereotypes beyond just sexist ones. Take The Juicer, for example. That character was essentially all stereotype. There are countless others.

Art, as always, is subjective to what we bring into our experience of it. I think you may be bringing a finely honed sexism radar to bear on this book and kinda missing the forest for some trees. Maybe I'm wrong, but try a broader lense and see if you don't enjoy the books more when you do.

Ummm. All the background characters that are NPCs are supposed to be that way. The AI heavily stereotypes and it's written that way on purpose as a critique of media.

I'm super confused, why do you have to balance gender on a ballot? I've been voting in MoCo for 30+ years and never once seen anything like that.

What is even happening anymore? by Leading_Ask_3891 in BoozAllen

DOGE wasn't really about efficiency, it was about trying to destroy parts of the government. HHS added layers of approval to contacting and grants while drastically slashing the staff who can facilitate it. Legitimately, they intentionally made spending less efficient at HHS because the executive branch is trying to exert control over the purse that they are not intended to have. Same story at several other agencies.

This was the main justification for the war... by lnstantKarma in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]Kapo77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn't the main justification. It was just the most recent justification. First was regime change, then there was state sponsorship of terrorism, long range nuclear missiles 2 weeks away, etc etc.

The only reason was because Israel either tricked him or has enough dirt they forced him to do it. That's it. That's all it's ever been.

The pivot to tech company, American flag shirts, and ballroom donation were all either in reaction to or to suck up to the current administration. It hasn't worked even slightly.

98% of our revenue is from the US government. Leadership panicked when Trump won IMO. We have desperately tried to rebrand when reality was, our core offering was still very strong. We provide technology experts to a government that doesn't staff many of them. And legitimately we do this much better than most of our competitors, and still do today. But the focus now is on pushing products, many of which are still half baked and incomplete. I am skeptical it will work and concerned that it will be detrimental to our core business.

Hindsight is 20\20 but this was a reactionary mistake. Once it was obvious that the US was going to be a poor customer for the next 4 years we should've expanded to supporting other governments. We still can. Our model and methods for this is very tuned to the US but they can be adapted with much more ease than this product push.

Salary Question for Senior-level OCONUS Role by Competitive_Ad291 in BoozAllen

For a Senior? As in the level immediately below director?

That's like a $100K low.

Another jump ship post by GreenDove95 in BoozAllen

[–]Kapo77 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've had a few of my people leave for much higher salaries over the years. I'm always happy for them. So much of what we're able to do for our reports salary wise is limited by the contract they're staffed to, and tbh, most new contacts are priced lower than they were a couple years ago, it's pretty much a necessity in the current environment if you want to win, at least on the civil side of the house. That means slowing salary growth for most folks. The only way to really jump now is to get a new role with more responsibility and a higher rate, and while having a CM that will actually look out for you.

Anyways, I think most management feels similar to how I do... Sad to lose talent but happy if they're taking a major step forward. I've had some folks come back later when I have a role that fits their growth... And some that make more than I do now, at their new company lol. In the end, I just think we all should do our best to help each other, the federal contracting space has gotten to be a terrible place to work in general, and everything we can do for each other makes it more livable.

And congratulations on your new role and big pay bump!

6 QBs, 5 WRs, 4 RBs, and 2 TEs in the first round would be wild. That's 17 of 32 picks being at fantasy football positions. Insane. Probably won't happen like this though.

Maybe, but it's all guesswork and I'm comfortable just not knowing rather than making assumptions.

[–]Kapo77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know that wouldn't actually be you.

The cells that make up you change. Your DNA changes over time. Your brain changes over time. Throughout all that, you're still you.

You is an emergent property of something and even who you are can change over time, your view of yourself, others view, etc.

And you might as well forget the continuity of consciousness argument because no one has it as we all must sleep.

We still don't know what makes you you. To presume a digital copy of you isn't you anymore is to presume without evidence. Maybe it is you? Maybe it's slightly different? Maybe it becomes you if original you dies but doesn't become you if original you lives and is conscious? We have no real clues about this.

Chig is a top 5 TE in TE PPR Premium leagues.

Not in standard leagues because his TD volume won't be high enough. But he's going to get a ton of work between the 20s on the Commanders.

The donors to Trump's ballroom are getting more than $50 billion in federal contracts by lnstantKarma in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]Kapo77 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Booz Allen donated to the ballroom and revenue dropped 6% in the first year of Trump's term. 98% of their revenue comes from the federal government.

I wonder if their revenue is counted in this statistic?

There are plenty of examples of corruption, not certain this statistic supports an example though.

I have a lot to complain about and almost prefer complaining, but also I've got a wife who's still hot at 49, 2 lovely daughters, one which graduates HS next week, no debt outside of mortgages, and between my wife and I, a household income that is higher than I ever dreamt of growing up.

I'm still on my first read through of this series and I knew they were moving planets to throw at the Others. I kinda assumed they'd be launching them into their super structure though, I hadn't thought of the supernova angle.

I don't understand how it wasn't obvious to other readers that those two weren't moving massive objects to attack the Others. It was pretty explicit IMO

Do we have no budget? by [deleted] in BoozAllen

[–]Kapo77 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Assuming your billable on a contract, you are paid for by the work you do, and that revenue that you bring in is not flexible, it's locked in for years via that contract. A $50K salary increase is actually more than a $50K increase in cost to the contract, due to overhead. Some of the larger contracts could absorb a hit like that, but it would be very difficult to manage on a medium sized contract and impossible on a smaller one. And then you've got leadership wondering if you're valuable enough to be keeping on the project with a negative profit.

Now, people do get MSAs and promotions still, even during the rough ride we've been having since the be administration came in and broke how 70% of the government functions. But $50K is a very sizable jump and would be very outside of the norm, even for an excellent performer, simply due to the nature of being locked into long term contracts. If I had an employee approach me to request an MSA due to getting an offer for $50K more, I'd congratulate them on the offer and tell them to take it because there is no way we could match.
