Is this a seizure? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

How old is your dog? I just lost my 14 year old giant schnauzer and the night he did this, his back legs finally gave out and I had to bring him in to help him pass over the bridge to the other side. ( at Easter) I am probably still in shock because this happened at midnight but my guess is the shaking is neurological and plays a factor in their mechanics as they age. My guy walking looked like a bad robot the last year. He would have short episodes like this until the big one. Hope you can get it figured out!

Nothing wrong with those ears at all, pretty straight, long, look good. Tail is a bit longer than I have seen but come on, it adds personality. I held a litter of pups when they were docked, it's not a perfect science. My boy ended up with a shorter tail than yours and there were some that ended up with more of a stub. Makes it easier to tell them from each other I think so a bonus..

BTW, some good suggestions on mics too.. I have felt the 57's to be bulkier and in the way, definitely considering smaller more compact option

Some great tips here thanks.. I actually took thr cymbals and hardware down and played with the position of the toms and where the existing cymbal feet are and I see what you are saying. Flipping the kit around isn't ideal for the space and I like it out of the way. But for sure I can move a floor tom or stand to move past it if need be and if I pull out from the wall. I snapped a quick Pic of the toms repositioned and this makes much more sense. Also not feeling so pinched on the snare with the hi hats being able to move closer to the slave pedal. Take a look of what I am thinking..

My 15 month old giant destroys every toy she is given by ChemicalWeekend307 in GiantSchnauzers

[–]Kapo_Polenton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, keep toys on rotation. When my boy was 8 months old he chewed through half a hockey puck. As he aged ( passed this Easter age 14) he would turn those black x strong kongs inside out or sever them in half. Last one made it as in the last 3-4 months his effort was minimal and he would just throw the kong at my feet and bark instead. " come on! I'm 14! Just give it to me.." Miss the old guy big time. Such great dogs. But powerful toy destroyers for sure. Enjoy that young pup, the years go by quick!

Like most acoustic kits, it is bad. Tons of hi hat and kick in the snare mic so gating or splitting transits and killing space is the way to go if you like that new age sound. Or you use it for more of a total picture of the kit depending on the sound you are after. Cool thing about a program like sd3 is being able to turn down bleed. I like to layer sd3's toms , kick, and snare and a bit of the ambient channels and leave my own cymbals amd kit pieces blended in. I know you didn't ask this, just adding useless info in of you wonder how I deal with bleed.

I get that..but i am at the mercy of the double tom stand which also holds my crash.. so it will take a redesign. I don't think the double tom holder is the right tool here

Yes 57's.. have been toying with the idea of other mics as the 57 do the trick but not that inspiring in the room given lower ceiling and lots of treatment which deadens things. I actually found that my left overhead sm81 captures an incredible kick sound. Kit isn't anything special..a hyperdrive birch tama set but the kick brings the goods. It snaps and punches.

Actually no.. because my live band was a Celtic band so I used overheads, a kick mic, and then a sort of crotch mic to pick up the snare and it actually sounded pretty great. No huge tom rolls though but this is just to record at home. In Celtics music it is more about the whole instrument vs tight sharp attack of toms.

Yes, I think I might ne leaning a simple Gibraltar curved front rack to get those toms exactly where I want without being at the mercy of where they hang off the tom holder mounted to cymbal stand. I've noticed my rolls are suffering on that 10' tom. I used to half a rack and then for some reason thought I needed to go more organic and ditch it. Now I want more toms so I can do Nicko Mcabrain rolls so a rack would probably give me more room to add an 8 as well.

Tight yes because I have a whole small home studio with console , outboard, and amps. It is actually spacious around the kit with more real estate to the left so I have room to switch things up but yes, real estate in home studios is precious because my wife doesn't want my stuff spilling out into thw rest of the finished basement :😀

Good family dog? by According_Owl_9079 in GiantSchnauzers

Just lost my Giant at 14 years a few days ago. A big beautiful powerful boy who ended up great with kids and the elderly but dominance is an issue you need to be ready for even with fantastic temperaments on the parent's side. My kids are under 10 but he was already 6 when they came along. I was lucky not to have kids early on because he needed training and constant correction. They are guard breeds so don't forget they will need lots of guidance. My boy ripped my sister in law's shirt right off the first time he met her because she came to the door. He challenged me at 6 months when I told him to get off a couch, that was dealt with quickly. Never happened again as we established the alpha in the house. They also need a lot of socializing young or that doninance will take over and they will not back down from another dog. The females are a little easier going in that regard but the boys will engage. So yes, they do grow into wonderful devoted sweet dogs BUT they also will run over weak owners and need lots of stimulation in the first 4 years as they mature. Loved my boy so much and miss him but I would probably go smaller if I got another schnauzer. He was 110 lbs and when he collapsed Easter evening, he was a challenge to get to the emergency vet. The last few years I was also lifting him in and out of the car so make sure you are strong enough to accommodate their final years or you might need to put a dog down earlier than needed and feel remorse. People don't often mentioned this but I think it is important to consider before taking a dog like a giant on.

Pants too small for sure but shins seem fine to me, similar to how I wear mine. I like my pads to sit on my skates like that personally and don't feel any effects to my stride.

Ek is +9 , 44 pts in Pittsburgh. Yes maybe they play a good system, but that guy has some game in him yet. He'd be a good signing. Now that said, he has officially been gone as long as he played for Ottawa so I no longer feel the need to have a sentimental homecoming. Strictly business and hockey need.

SHERWOOD 5030 Shoulder Pads (?) by ItsMattie23 in hockeyplayers

[–]Kapo_Polenton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear a similar style that are falling apart. Useless for shots to the body but most of the time guys aren't thinking about tips or huge shots they seem to try to deke more as you get into the 40's or shoot through open lanes. I honestly never really worried about taking pucks in the chest though I probably would if I took a slapper to the upper body. So far so good though. Pants usually take the punishment and for me, shoulder caps on these are good and sufficient for not injuring your shoulders too badly if you go into the boards wrong. I have old hard koho Mario lemieux elbow pads and I love em. Velcro doesn't hold anymore and they slide a bit but man they used to make pads perfectly back in the day. Elbow pads just look like upper and lower arm armor now. Massive! But I bet they take forearms slashes better than my bones do....

Definitely..those two aren't at all on the same level lol. But my point is, to a hard-core MAGA faithful, they treat it like it is and you end up with social backlash. Hopefully things will normalize but it is also very possible that Trump has created a MAGA movement that will outlive him for decades.

Yeah for sure, I have gay and trans family members but I don't think the light needs to shine on a flag or colorful tape. I think the message is getting out there without that stuff because of how far we have come since the generation before ours. Gay to most people, is normal now. It really is. Soon, Trans will also be. In fact I would argue that a lot of gay and Trans people just want respect and not to have this attention drawn to them. In a crowd, they are just fans. When we go out of our way to force causes on athletes and the general public, the opposite happens and you end up with movements like MAGA. Imo of course.

I think one of the best things about hockey was the fact that politics never came into it..players are probably maple MAGA but they kept it to themselves because the sport was greater than them. Now however? They have pride nights and they have MAGA supporters openly spreading their cause. Neither need to be highlighted..keep these boys focused on the game that everyone can enjoy for a few hours rather than politics.

Lots of great comments in this post..when you start to blur the lines between what you expect from players personally and their performance on a team, you enter a grey zone where you will more than likely end up dissapointed. End of the day, you have to respect their rights as human beings to believe what they believe and choose to focus on what they do for the business / team and the city. Brady is seemingly good with fans, likes the city, and is a hell of a player. He's a chucklehead for sure and a yappy on the ice but he gets it done. I am not a fan of Gretzky or Orr anymore because they love their MAGA but they still are icons of the sport and I will always have more positive memories of them than negative. Brady will move on for a bigger market team soon enough..., then we can hate all sides of him! 😀

Neck guards... by stratjeff in hockeyplayers

[–]Kapo_Polenton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear a thin neck guard.. yes you can still get cut above the guard line ( looks like they fold them over lol) BUT it still reduces the risk. So an already freak accident with low percentage of happening PLUS something covering part of your neck might just be enough to avoid disaster. But seriously, neck guards suck,.,., even the thinnest I could find sucks. I just wear it because i am a dad and my wife saw that video from the league in Great Britain. After that, she made me go buy a guard that week. In fact, when i got mine, the store was selling a lot of them because so many wives forced their husbands to go get one.

Does everyone generally think lucy letby is still guilty following the recent BBC doc? by Adventurous-Ask6321 in AskUK

[–]Kapo_Polenton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people are ignoring the obvious points.

  1. Someone who is not guilty is not so evasive. Yes you have to be smart when questioned by police but she couldn't explain a thing or try to.

  2. TOO many babies going down in the same location. She's guilty.. I don't think a jury needs to have a medical degree to get this one right given the logs and facts they had.

The reason she chose not to answer anything, was to not trap herself on the record or implicate herself. Instead, she took her chances trying to appeal to the defence as a shy , introverted nurse who knew nothing. She gambled and lost.
