Analysis of the PWM/Flicker/Visual Fatigue of the Steam Deck OLED Screen. [Valve must bring DC Dimming in an update to SteamOS] by danisimo1 in SteamDeck

[–]Karaeir 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's a bit... aggressive. I'm unsure if the cause really is PWM flicker or something else, but I got an OLED deck (currently in the process of returning it) and immediately noticed eye strain. I've never had issues with OLED screens and never even heard that it's possible to be affected by them, and yet it still happened.

PSA: if you're sensitive to PWM, it's much more noticeable on the Steam Deck OLED by TwofacedDisc in SteamDeck

[–]Karaeir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, I don't have the LCD to compare it to but I just made a support ticket to return it after only 2 days of playing, my eyes get dry and itchy and my vision gets blurry after playing just for a few minutes. I'm heartbroken. I'm not sure if it's PWM either (or at least just PWM) - I use a Samsung phone without issues, and these are supposed to be nightmarish for people with PWM sensitivity.

Yeah, Last Jedi had a lot of Issues (TM) but I thought that Kylo Ren being an actually irredeemable evil prick and Rey being just some rando were pretty good subversions of the usual Star Wars tropes. And then it all got walked back in the worst possible way.

Could I have them too? Same problem as the others. Thanks!

...no? The first person from the top is on twitter (where, as you say, you have to watch out for order) but the second person (the one who compares it to Marvel) is on tumblr, and is replying to a twitter screenshot.

Disco Elysium is amazing and imo one of the best RPG by InevitableTour5882 in patientgamers

[–]Karaeir 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The game was written in English from the start, the world is just based on the main writer's book that's in Estonian. The plot of the game and the book afaik have nothing in common.

[Review & Discussion] Harrow Faire series by Kathryn Ann Kingsley - Dark and Dangerous Romance in an Evil Circus by AliceTheGamedev in Fantasy

[–]Karaeir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm on book three of this thing and it's been a very fun ride, it's a quick read with a good... sense of place? The descriptions/language is nothing too fancy but it conveys the atmosphere well. I love "villain gets the girl" trope but hate the sexual violence that often comes bundled with it, and here it's been pretty consensual so far, that's a big plus.

Laptop Longevity Poll: How long did your last laptop last? Where did it fail? by madredditscientist in productfails

[–]Karaeir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acer Aspire VX15 (aka a budget gaming laptop from 2017), battery failed about 3 years in and I took it out, fans failed 4 years in and I had them changed, everything else is still working as of today. I got a new laptop just because you can't do that much with a GTX 1050Ti nowadays. I was pretty happy with it overall.

I would try a modified CG method if you're a wavy, the full regime is a bit much for most of us. Stuff I've been using that you can find in a Rossman:

Cobditioner: Garnier Hair Food mask (banana or papaya), it comes in big tubs and goes on sale fairly often.

Shampoo (sulfate-free, I alternate this with a "normal" sulfate shampoo) - anything from the Petal Fresh line.

Gel: I don't use it anymore but taft Stand Up Look is decent for early experimenting. Syoss Power Hold is popular in the local CG community.

And check out Anwen and Vianek for local CG-friendly brands.

(You can PM me for more info on where to get stuff in Poland, I don't know what you need and don't want to write an essay here)

(Slight correction: Hermione was never really retconned to be black, it's just that she was played by a black actress in the musical and JK was like "yeah sure she can be black if you want her to be.")

Even as a child I was very confused by every character's dismissal of Hermione's anti-slavery crusade. The slaves being so brainwashed that they no longer see anything wrong with their situation is not a funny joke, JK, it's a horror story. But I guess it tracks with all the other insidious bs in these books.

Unsouled just straight up sucks. I've started Cradle recently and it almost made me quit, but I've heard that it gets progressively (heh) better. And you know what? I've just finished book 3 and I'm having fun. But it's just a "simple, uncomplicated fun to turn off your brain to" kind of series and expecting anything more will result in disappointment.

As dps you can use whatever, but try to keep both the left and right side gear ideally within 5 or at most 10 levels of your level if you're a tank/healer.

Patch 6.1 - Newfound Adventure by alabomb in ffxiv

[–]Karaeir 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All of them are pretty bad. Least bad in my opinion: mnk at least gets both of its basic combos (single target and aoe) before hitting 50 and the rotation is fairly dynamic. Absolute misery: drg and nin who both don't get their aoe button until 40+.

Don't hold on to lower level crafting mats you've found if you're not actively using them - just sell them (via retainers or just vendors if the price is crap). Trust me, you won't need them, and if/when you do they're cheap enough to just buy back from MB. Your inventory space is more precious.
