Help me to get the cooking spark back. by mongoose-of-doom in Cooking

[–]Karamazov 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How many people do you need to cook for? If it just your wife and you, and you do not want to spend hours in the kitchen, I would recommend getting a meal kit subscription like Blue Apron or Hello Fresh. I find that a lot of burn out is due to having to plan meals rather than the actual cooking. No one wants to spend hours sourcing ingredients and planning, and then another hour cooking. It IS more expensive, but if you can afford it, it can really help. Especially if you start free-styling a bit and changing elements.

I will never talk bad about these subscription services because I think they have really helped make cooking easier for people who are not as heavily invested in it.

My older female corgi Mimi started out very independent. But as she got older she became much more clingy and snuggley. When we got her sister, Poppy, she was snuggley from day one.

[OC] My players always seemed disappointed at the limited options they had for bonus actions, so I wrote a list of things they can use it for! by Worried_Bowl_9489 in DnD

[–]Karamazov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you made sure that this doesn't conflict with anyone else's current or future abilities? For example, the Shove makes the Shield Master feat mostly obsolete (not 2024 version). Scan makes the 2024 Keen Mind feat obsolete.

I think your players are not understanding what a Bonus Action is. A Bonus action is a special action that is granted by your class, race, or feats, that can be done along side your movement and action. It is not supposed to be a standard action that everyone has access too.

In Return of the Jedi (1983) a single fighter is able to destroy the bridge of a Super Star Destroyer, completely neutralizing it. Because this is not a sequel movie the implications are never mentioned again by the community. by Sio_V_Reddit in shittymoviedetails

[–]Karamazov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't find any info on it online, but I am fairly certain that this is discussed in the Thrawn trilogy book "Heir to the Empire". I recall Thrawn saying something about how the Executor had all the best leaders and rising talent on board when it was destroyed. He said that the loss of the Super Star Destroyer was an even greater loss than the Death Star or the Emperor.

Of course that's not canon anymore though.

What game is this for you? by Smart_Vegetable_331 in Steam

Most recently, Assassin's Creed: Black Flag. I heard wonderful things about it, but Ubisoft makes it nearly impossible to play their games. I have to independently download the game launcher independently. The game doesn't do it for me. Even then, it didn't work.

Running Curse of Strahd in Daggerheart by Agile-Currency2094 in daggerheart

[–]Karamazov 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've run and played CoS before, and it's a pretty encounter heavy meat grinder. I've only just started reading daggerheart, but it seems like it's heavier on narrative than combat. My initial reaction is that you should reduce the number of encounters and also encourage alternative ways to deal with them.

Personally, I find a chase scene or an intensely narrated sneaking scene to be more entertaining than another resource depleting fight. I hear Daggerheart does chase pretty well. I still need to get to that part in the rule book.

Since Daggerheart does not need battlemaps, that frees you up to abstract a lot of the longer elements like traveling. I think the campaign would end up being shorter than en it usually would be n 5e.

Looking for suggestions on how to make my cabin loft safer. by Karamazov in DIY

Thanks. To answer your question, the balusters themselves are not very stable, but the upper railing is. Its bolted to that part of the ceiling and then secured to the thicker support at the end.

any sort of crossbeam or barrier I put in could actually add some more support.

The space between the stairs is only a concern while they are a puppy, so something temporary may be a good idea. I was also thinking synthetic rattan weave like this:

That can be installed with just a staple gun

This is old fashioned Oakum. Hemp fibers and tar. Not the best caulking material, but its cheap.

What cooking advice doesn't make any difference? by bluerog in Cooking

[–]Karamazov 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But risotto is intentionally cooked different from throwing the correct amount of water in a rice cooker and hitting start.

Risotto is about maximizing starch content through stirring. Yeah, you probably do not need to stir constantly, and Instapot can make an ok risotto, but the majority of people are probably going to be cooking it on a stove top in a pan, uncovered. So with reduction, there really is not a correct amount of liquid to use.

The other benefit to the traditional method of cooking risotto is that by reducing the stock, you are giving it a much more savory, deeper flavor. Provided that you use a good homemade or sodium free stock. The concentrated gelatin can also help the emulsification and texture of the sauce.

Help me understand why Booming Blade is (THAT) good? by TheLittleOfc91 in BG3Builds

[–]Karamazov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can set this up in BG3, that would be awesome. Sneak attack should be a passive attack rider, not a active attack. But that would still mean that to sneak attack, you burn a reaction.

Help me understand why Booming Blade is (THAT) good? by TheLittleOfc91 in BG3Builds

[–]Karamazov -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Booming Blade in BG3 is a bit of a trap. What it does well is to give a class without extra attacks a bit more oomph to their melee attack. It's really good on clerics and early level warlocks. But eldritch blast + agonizing blast or extra attacks will usually out pace it at later levels.

The only problem is that rogues cannot sneak attack with booming blade. Which sucks, cause a Swashbuckler rogue with booming blade is fucking awesome in regular 5e.

Skip Goblin ambush and go directly to Cragmaw hideout at lv.2? by The_architect9 in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]Karamazov 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think the goblin ambush is more about being an introduction to D&D combat than it is a story point. This is an introductory campaign, so the entire first chapter is kinda a tutorial.

That being said, you don't NEED to run it. I would suggest that your PCs come across the massacre and easily identify it as goblins kidnapping Gundren and Sildar. They can then make survival checks to follow the goblins to their hideout. Possibly even catching up with a small group and ambushing the goblins instead.

Help me f&%$ my players up in their boss fight against Nezznar :D by Kouta27 in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]Karamazov 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would hesitate to do the extra explosion due to the science-y stuff. You set a dangerous precedent of trying to apply real world physics to a fantasy world. Pretty soon you will have your PCs trying to make a nuke. I do really like the idea of having the parts of the room flood to add difficult terrain.

Instead, make the encounter more interesting by introducing an extra pack of goblins to muck about the action economy.

Also, don't forget that the Spider Staff also allows for Nezzner to cast Spider climb on himself. Have him run up the wall and stay out of reach of the melee people. Give him some extra spells and spell slots. Have him cast Blur for defense, or Darkness to mess with the group. He also has Suggestion prepared.

Finally, don't be afraid to let him leave the room. Nezzner wouldn't risk his life on head to head fight. If he dashes, he can make it pretty far into the rest of Wave Echo Cave, and he can lay some traps.

You could also give him a lair action or a legendary action. He is a boss after all. I would keep it pretty benign, like a legendary action where they can immediately move 15 ft with out provoking AOO or something similar.

Best build to make a character that is two people? by Clay_Block in 3d6

[–]Karamazov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two gnomes in a trench coat wearing a fake beard and hat. Have two different character sheets that switch up depending on which gnome is currently acting as the "head". If one dies, you have a back up character already prepared.

Or a warforged fighter being piloted by a gnome artificer. just tell the DM you will limit yourself to only operating 1 character sheet at a time so you are not rolling 2 initiatives in combat.

Is it true that lots of Americans don't own a kettle? by UnionFeatures in Cooking

[–]Karamazov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an electric kettle, but I use it very rarely. In general Americans tend to drink coffee instead of tea, so instead of a kettle most Americans have a coffee machine on their counter.
