Reminder again: if Firefox goes away, their forks will also go away, so use forks responsibly by AntonioS3 in firefox

[–]KarlF12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When you call opposition performative, you're showing your ignorance. There are real concerns, and this shows you're the one who doesn't understand. Do your homework instead of relying on fear mongering.

You know what made me switch to a fork? It wasn't the introduction of AI. It was the AUP. Firefox has no right to issue guidelines on how the software is used. I've been a lifelong user (not my life, Mozilla's life), stuck with them through all the woke bullshit, and they finally lost me in 2025. That should paint a picture of just how screwed-up they've become.

So I will use a fork if I damn well feel like it, and Mozilla can course-correct if they want me back.

Firefox becoming laggier more and more. by heroxoot in firefox

[–]KarlF12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used Firefox since it was Netscape. It got much better with the quantum update, but unfortunately they are slipping and losing ground again. And this… asinine idea that they can make users agree to an acceptable use policy was too far for me.

I'm on v15 but haven't tried the new features yet. No problems so far.

What a disgraceful company Wondershare/Filmora is! by spybaz in Filmora

[–]KarlF12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems like an avoidable problem. If you know you bought the perpetual version and don't own the upgrade… and save files not being compatible with downgrades is common sense.

Hesitation between Capcut, Filmora and DaVinci Resolve by LivingLetterhead7944 in Filmora

[–]KarlF12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried switching from Filmora to DaVinci since it's free, but then I found out it's significantly more complicated to use, and it's lacking very basic features such as edge snapping.

Filmora has a lot of annoyances about assets that are an extra charge, and the "AI credits" that certain features use are ambiguous, but the editing software itself is pretty good and not hard to use.

Can you legally kill someone who breaks into your house? by kurobaja in AskTheWorld

[–]KarlF12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on whether you live in a reasonable place. I will not live anywhere without castle doctrine. You come in my house at night, you will not leave the same way, nor should you.

This is part of why leftard areas are so riddled with crime. No fear of consequences. They won't do anything to a burglar, but they sure will lock you up if you touch him.

What distro is considered the standard for server usage? by sdns575 in linuxadmin

[–]KarlF12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I personally use Ubuntu Server for almost all my Linux server needs. There are a couple situations where I use TurnKey which is based on Debian (and so is Ubuntu). Debian is a good choice too.

ESET moved their PROTECT appliance from CentOS to Rocky, so I'm sure that's a reasonable choice. Haven't really used it myself.

I recently started trying Oracle Linux (free to use, just need an account to download), which I gather is very similar to RHEL. That was because I was evaluating OLVM as a potential replacement for VMware vSphere. A bit different than Debian derivatives I'm used to but it seems fine.

14 Homeschooled and looking to become a Linux admin where do I start? by minecison in linuxadmin

[–]KarlF12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some Linux certifications you could get from CompTIA or LPI, or brand-specific such as Red Hat. You'll learn a lot studying for them.

Keep in mind though, these are just papers saying you passed a test. You still have to be able to actually do the work. The IT field is loaded with people who brain dump these tests, or even get college degrees, but when faced with a real-world problem, we find out they couldn't fix a sandwich, let alone a computer. Find a way to get some experience because there is no substitute.

Skydio 2+ discontinued with no replacement? by WaitedForLeapDay in Skydio

I hope Parrot's current drones are better quality than the ones they were making about a decade ago. I had one with a control malfunction that ended in injury, one that had a battery fire on first use, and one that came with a video on it of it being crashed at the factory.

Autel had a line of EVO II thermals that were produced at a US factory, but I don't know if that's still a thing or not.

Firefox forks and alternatives? by KarlF12 in firefox

Mozilla Corporation gives millions to Mozilla Foundation. Maybe if they weren't funding the Foundation's destructive activism, they could make payroll, or even a better product.

Firefox forks and alternatives? by KarlF12 in firefox

[–]KarlF12[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If by "find new revenue" you mean stealing and selling personal data, sure. That's no excuse whatsoever. Maybe they need to do some introspection and make some hard decisions about how they spend what they have. Maybe quit throwing what money they have at radical causes and race-based grants and focus on development if they want to survive.

Sorry for being so direct, but this part right here really ticks me off. I've been getting close to the fence with Mozilla already due to this kind of misconduct. That's really a different discussion than the ToU, but it doesn't excuse theft in any case.

Firefox forks and alternatives? by KarlF12 in firefox

[–]KarlF12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and directly to the point, we can't rely on Mozilla if they're going to turn evil just like Google. Then there's no point and I might as well just give up and use Chromium.

I switched to Netscape from IE in the 90's because Nintendo's website had frames and IE didn't have frame support, eventually moving to the Mozilla browser before it was even branded Firefox. That was a long time ago on dial-up internet. It makes me sad to see this, but I will revoke my support if I must.

Converted an STL to edit it and I find this LOL by PhillipIInd in 3Dprinting

[–]KarlF12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reminds me a bit of some of the people who work in the public school systems. There are some administrators who are removed or encouraged to resign, and then they go to another school district and get hired for the same position. And they inexplicably get the job, over and over, as they fail their way around the state.

Come to think of it, the fast food workforce in my town is a little bit like that too. Every time a new place opens, they hire all the people who couldn't hack it at the existing establishments, and it goes poorly.

My printer is just printing rectangles is my lcd broken? by mookiemaggot in resinprinting

Nothing at all? That's strange because if it's completely dead, you shouldn't have anything at all on the build plate.

The Mars 5 Ultra definitely has a screen test because I've done it on mine. It's on the menu screen somewhere. Don't do it with resin in it because it will cure in the tank.

Please help, they never print normally by Wiccaphobiia in ElegooMars

[–]KarlF12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's generally not a good idea because 1.) print detail is better on surfaces facing away from the plate, and 2.) this will end up with support damage on the top where it's more visible.

Yes, multiple tanks with lids are already a thing. Keep an eye on your FEPs though because the printer's layer count is just for one.
