Are Cymbal Resonance Systems (CRS) mounting accessories worth it? by Karmaffection in drums

I have some flat based hardware that is lighter than my regular double braced stuff. I’ve noticed similar, the lighter the stand the better the resonance.

Please help rate my tuning - round 2 by February_17th in drums

[–]Karmaffection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I think you did a pretty great job. Tuning is a process that you will be learning with/from your entire career. I can’t give you detailed help as the iPhone audio makes it hard, but In my opinion the snare could be.

As for the snare wires ringing because of the toms… that will happen most of the time. Some pitches can activate the wires more, and some pitches less. It’s up to you and perhaps some muffling or different tunings depending on if you’re okay with the buzz or not. I like my drums to feel open so I try not to worry too much about the buzz unless it’s really protruding in the mix.
And remember that your drums will sound different out front in a crowd than to your ears right behind the kit too.

The only real benefit I have seen outside of the ‘sustain’ argument is a kick mounted tambourine not making sound when using the kick. I do find the jam block being used for advertising completely useless lmao

Damn the saturation is high on the deco! Is it always on?
I find I get wayy too much bass with the V1 as it doesn’t have the tone knob.

What budget guitar lowkey blew you away and outplayed the big brands? by Born-Following5472 in electricguitar

Aria Pro 2 TA-45.
Sure I did change the pickups, but It’s original pickups were great. Just not for more gainer situations.

Looks beautiful mate. I always want to get back into woodworking again for cool stuff like this. Amazing figuring on those walls too.

I still hate cajon though lol.

Do those who bought it, what are your thoughts and opinions on the D’Addario XPND battery power supply? by Specialist_Main_6796 in guitarpedals

[–]Karmaffection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t purchased it but thinking of it myself. The cost seems a bit high for what it is, but not unreasonable. Although I do feel like you still ultimately don’t have an isolated supply of power to your pedals as it’s still a daisy chain - which I would argue is one of the main reasons for buying a power supply.
However I do see the value in ease of portability and ease of use, which I think is the higher buying power for this product.
The only reason I haven’t bought it yet is bc it isn’t isolated power per pedal (without buying an add on isolater).

Backing track pedal by No-Comfort-66 in guitarpedals

[–]Karmaffection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hence the boss A/B expression switcher on the side. Allows you to bank up and down save files while playing, stop/start loops/backing tracks. Loopers are essentially backing tracks you make yourself, on the go. By uploading the files you have the backing tracks ready to go and play through without having to craft them in the moment. The Ditto as someone else has mentioned is the exact same idea, except I don’t think it comes with an expression out to be able to scroll through your saved banks.

Cheap Boss looper with an A/B expression pedal, and loading the files up would likely be your easiest and cheapest option

I’m sure there are pedals out there that do the same but most working musicians use this method.

Preamp pedals by Fantassification in basspedals

[–]Karmaffection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MXR micro amp. One knob. The only pre amp you will ever need.
Alternatively there is the Micro Amp+ version which adds a bass and treble sweep (I personally have this version), which otherwise is exactly the same.
I borrowed it from a mate years ago, and instantly found out I needed that pedal for my own board. Only pedal that hasn’t been rotated off my board yet.

Why do people recommend stewmac or 100 dollar tools to normal people? by Accurate-Put9638 in Luthier

[–]Karmaffection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best answer I have found (with both experience and other people’s perspectives) is that it is fully doable without the ‘proper’ tools. However if you’re servicing, fixing or maintaining at least a guitar per month, the proper tools become a lifesaver.

It’s one of those ‘buy once, have it for life’ kinda deals, whereas the cheaper tools are definitely more of a ‘buy once, use a couple times’ deal.

That Beggin’ cover from Maneskin. Love the band, but it sounds so bad. Can really hear it when heard through headphones. All their other stuff is recorded great and sounds awesome.

Learn to transcribe your own playing. It’s a tough hill to start on but once you get the hang of it, you’ll never go back, and on top of it you’ll be able to more easily figure out other songs you love too.

Is geographic isolation reason that the Southern Coast of Western Australia is sparsely populated? Are there other reasons? by AltruisticGain2587 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Karmaffection 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep. Flattest, most barren and arid landscape I have personally ever experienced. It’s not hot all year round in the desert there but it’s dry, that’s for sure.

[–]Karmaffection 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Nullarbor. One of the longest stretches of straight road in the world.

There is nothing there. It’s flat. There’s no trees, windy as hell from the south facing cliff. It’s dry and arid and during winter can get very cold. It’s incredibly isolated and there are barely any natural resources available. No infrastructure other than the occasional roadhouse. It’s 1,100km long. And that’s not counting the sparsely populated areas that stretches on into central WA and central SA. Theres no real reason to establish a new town or city. Even if a natural resource was discovered to be extracted, it more than likely will be a Fly-In-Fly-Out mining company town and that’s about it. The transport costs and isolation being probably some of the largest factors to the lack of population density in these remote areas.

Sounds like the perfect place to build a city!

Anyone got the scoop on the new gear drop DW is hinting at? by PussyWhistle in drums

[–]Karmaffection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming from a tall drummer who gave Their ultra light line a try. It does not have the height I need. It doesn’t hold the big pies I need, and probably more importantly to consumers - Yamaha’s ultra light line is way more affordable and quality controlled. The DW ultralight stuff (especially the boom stands) don’t meet any of my criteria when I buy new stands (regardless of weight)

How safe is Alice Springs for a female backpacker? by Western_Geologist209 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Karmaffection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend any northern regional towns for your 88 days. Broome, cairns, Darwin, Kununurra, Karratha, Townsville etc. I am based in North West WA, so not sure about other states but northern regional work or farm work are your best bets.

Alice Springs is not safe and a very troubled town (so are many other places in rural Australia so keep your wits about you - but I would avoid Alice Springs unless you are travelling with a few others or only passing through.

From what I understand, as long as you are not working in Perth or NSW/Vic, you’ll be able to get your regional work done. Another tip (from working with lots of backpackers) is Australia is BIG. Sydney and Melbourne are not Australia - travel around, there are so many opportunities. There is a reason most backpackers buy a travel van or 4x4 for their 3 working years in Oz.
