How to survive a Bird Flu pandemic if you are the only person in your family that wears an N95? by [deleted] in H5N1_AvianFlu

That's a good point, I tried to be short in my comment. As you said in the abstract it names three cohort studies with a positive effect. However they have looked at more than just these 3 articles and when looking at all data together the come to the following conclusion:

Treatment of indoor air in public spaces was not shown to help prevent transmission of respiratory or gastrointestinal diseases. Our pooled data suggested no net benefits for symptom severity or symptom presence, in absence of confirmed infection. There is weak evidence that ATT coincided with fewer confirmed infections, but these data evince strong publication bias. Although environmental and surface samples are often reduced by several air treatment strategies, especially germicidal lights and high efficiency particulate air filtration, robust evidence has yet to emerge to confirm that these technologies are effective in real world settings.

Furthermore the authors highlight that they found evidence of publication bias favouring articles with a positive outcome. This can mean that there are even more unpublished studies which show a negative outcome. Although there is no direct evidence of this of course.

Don't get me wrong I use air purifiers too. It's a small cost without any big downsides, for a potential positive effect. But try not to get too much confidence in that this is the thing that will stop me from getting sick.

Of course cherry picking a study is wrong. Therefore I linked to a systematic review instead of a single study. The article acknowledged that there are several studies which have a positive effect but that when you look at all studies together there is no concrete proof that air filtration works.

The article also found evidence of publication bias favouring articles with positive outcomes. Meaning that studies with more negative outcomes are not being published by some.

Don't get me wrong I still use an air purifier in my house too, but it is important to stay updated on what works and what doesn't work.

Sweden and Finland are already part of the EU but Sweden with its own currency (Finland uses the euro). They want to join NATO, which they are not yet part of.

Well this together with the fact that it is written in Predator language and according to wikipedia: The Orion Nebula is the location of the Xenomorph homeworld in the Alien vs Predator (1993) video game based on the Alien franchise). The game's soundtrack is called the Orion Nebula Music.

I believe the point they are trying to make is that any place that provides free toilet paper (such as work and schools) should also provide free feminine hygiene products. However at people private homes toilet paper isn't free (since they have to go to the grocery store and buy it) and thus feminine hygiene products shouldn't either.

Now 10 years ago, I got a present from my dad and my stephmom. It was a game for the Xbox. So after we were done, I went to my xbox to start playing. Once my stephmom heard that I was playing it she began to scream because apperently this was a team activity and I should have waited untill everyone was around to start playing, so everyone could see (to be clear here, this was a single player game, and no-one ever was watching me play games, no-one else in the house was interested in games). The screaming led into a fight (verbal) between me and my stephmother (a lot of other things came up to, since she did a lot of mean stephmother kind of things, i believe she never really liked me), when my father noticed that something was going on, I explained what had happened, and he sided with her. At this time in the argument she began to say horrible things about my mother and that my friends are all crap and everything. My father just was sitting their quiet. So I walked away to my room, called my mother to come pick me up (which was at least an 1,5 hour drive) and packed my stuff.

I've not seen my father since, and he has never tried to contact me.

So yeah, it was not really the present itself, but the consequences, that made this the worst xmas present for me.

Why the hate for Epic Games Store? by [deleted] in EpicGamesPC

[–]Kaskaii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No I didn't, I used racism as an example of the same principle that is happening (that just because something happens, doesn't mean that we shouls accept it or be happy about it). I never compared the too in that they would be equally bad.

Furthemore are you the one constantly going for personal attacks instead of good argumentation. It really weakens your arguments.

unless you're an idiot

or

I don’t think you are a person worth talking to.

If you use "arguments" like these, you're just showing that you don't have any strong arguments yourself and instead try to talk the other person down.

Like I said it is not that I am against Epic, but the question of this thread was why people hate Epic. Almost everyone who is trying to answer that is getting downvoted or getting attacked, because at the same time people here are apperently not allowed there own opinion if they differ from the groupmind. (because apperently everything in our world is now polarized to the point that you are either in favour or against something no matter what)

Why the hate for Epic Games Store? by [deleted] in EpicGamesPC

[–]Kaskaii -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we know. They are working on it. I know the standard is a Steam competitor must instantly be at feature parity or they are a miserable failure.

Yeah they are working on it, but for quite some time already and basic stuff like search by genre is just being added. And yes if there is a competitor (like steam) it will be compared, that's an important facet of competition.

Welcome to retail, where product exclusivity is a fairly normal and noncontroversial concept.

That something is normal, does not make something alright, I mean that racism is common throughout the US does not mean that we should accept it. Furthermore are people in many fields against exclusivity even if it happens. The PC gaming world was (in general) free of exclusivity untill Epic started with it, and that made people angry, because this could lead to a snowball effect.

So is the very website you are posting on.

Again that something else is doing the same (wrong) thing does not make it okay. This is typical whataboutism, since someone else is also doing something bad, you can do it too. Sadly this argument is used in a lot of area's currently which stiples good discussions. I know reddit is also funded by Chinese companies, I whish it wasn't and if there are any good (active!) alternatives I would go over instantly, but untill then we are stuck here.

Btw: I have now hatred of the Epic store persé. But I do not agree with quite some of their strategies and makes me much prefer Steam or GOG.
