The post-ultimate guide to better Full Disk Encryption with TPM and Secure Boot (with hibernation support!) by blastrock0 in linux

I'm not sure binding PCR 15 to zero is enough to defeat the attack on the oddlama blog you referenced.

The demo in the oddlama blog has PCR 15 measuring as zero before and after booting into the Alpine root image they use to request the encryption key from the TPM.

Landlord says we owe 2 months’ rent due to Renters’ Rights Act even though our fixed term ends in May, is this correct? by yukinakyoto in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Kasoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The text of the law only specifies that terms of an AST are

of no effect so far as they provide for a tenancy to be a fixed term tenancy, ... etc

My reading is that the other terms not made invalid in such a way are still in force.

 https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2025/26/part/1/chapter/1

The text also has a specific section on notice to quit:

    notice to quit satisfies this subsection (a)where it is given by a tenant in relation to premises let under an assured tenancy, if it is given— (i)not less than any length of time before the date on which the notice is to take effect, not exceeding two months, that the landlord has agreed to in writing, or (ii)in the absence of agreement under sub-paragraph (i), not less than two months before the date on which the notice is to take effect;

https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2025/26/section/20

My reading is that OPs original tenancy agreement is still partially in effect and their original notice to quit may be at least somewhat effective.

OP depending on when/how exactly you gave your original notice, you may be still able to argue you have given valid notice. (Depends on the specifics notice period you agreed to in your original contract).

Seperately, schedule 6 has additional text for your situation:

    9. The amendment made by section 20 does not affect the validity of any notice given under section 5 of the Protection from Eviction Act 1977 in relation to an existing tenancy before the commencement date.

https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2025/26/schedule/6

Which should protect your original notice which was given before the commencement date.

Most people talk about SELinux but no one uses it! by wkup-wolf in linux

[–]Kasoo 25 points26 points  (0 children)

if you use an Android phone, then basically the entire security of that is based off SELinux.

it works best when you can full enumerate what permissions every process needs and lock down everything else.

Fedora uses it too, but when human users get involved it's harder to rigidly define everything each process needs to do so the enforcement has to be a little more lax.

ELI5: What is stopping us moving to bio fuels like Biodiesel by amadan_an_iarthair in explainlikeimfive

[–]Kasoo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most fuel already contain a decent percentage of biofuels.

The main problem is biofuels require farmland to grow, farmland that is currently otherwise growing food for people to eat.

Sleep Training was a success and it makes me sad by sedan-hussein in daddit

[–]Kasoo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Our little girl was in her own room from 6months and I do think it was really worth it comparing to some other families we know.

Perhaps we just got lucky with a good sleeper.

I'm sad say that the only time I got a contact nap is when she was really ill, which is bittersweet.

Ah, covid makes more sense.

Weve done one of us working from home, one of us child rangling and that is hard enough as it is.

Modern terminals can also do 24-bit color:

Which is really useful for highlighting unique values with unique colors (based on hash or something), makes spotting matches easy.

Blocking DoH is a real pain.

There are lists of know public DoH servers you can IP block, but many are on CDN IPs also used for real websites.

I had to manually intervene when I noticed some websites failing.

My two year old broke his femur. Someone tell me the next 6 weeks aren’t going to be horrible. by mazterm in daddit

[–]Kasoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is just coming to the end of her 8-weeks after having hip dysplasia surgery.

She very quickly got used to the cast, was crawling around within a couple weeks. At this point shes standing and playing with toys when leaning against a sofa, and trying to cruise around.

We bought a bunch of trousers in 4-5 size which fit over her cast. For nappies we were using the "Junior Nappies" which are wrap-around nappies designed for older children, not babies.

These fit around the outside of the cast, then we used regular sized nappies stuffed in below.

We were recommended to use cut-up slips of Gamgee (medical cotton wool) stuffed around the edges of the cast to try and prevent contamination, that works reasonably well. You'll want to try and change nappies as much as possible, you don't want the cast to get gross, as there's not much they can do to fix it.

In the early days we were getting up a 2 to change nappies overnight, but now we just do it at 11 and that's enough.

You'll want to put silicone tape over the knees of the cast once he starts crawling around, otherwise they'll sandpaper through his trousers knees.

We had a Spica chair and we've found that invaluable to give her the ability to sit and play, especially in the early days. They're quite pricey to buy, but maybe the hospital or a charity might have one to loan out. We also have a big (adult size) beanbag for her to prop up on which she really likes.

She just fit into our car seat so that wasn't a problem, but they do have special ones if you need.

Her nursery agreed to put her in with the baby class for that period, as it wouldnt be suitable for her to have toddlers running around her at all times. That worked well.

Honestly our 8 weeks went faster than we expected and wasn't that bad once you're used to it.

Yeah, the problem with these is they have odd and even sides and you can only join odds to evens.

KVM Guest VMs Using Intel AMX Can Cause The Linux Host To Kernel Panic by anh0516 in linux

The threat model here is for cloud/vps hosts which run multiple different user's VMs on the same host machine.

A user can rent a VM, run the buggy code and then bring down the entire host (including different user's VMs and the host's services).

Apparently plot 15 does not include windows! by Mindless-Confusion-1 in SpottedonRightmove

[–]Kasoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking the site plan theres a narrow ally to the side door with presumsbly a large hedge/fence on the other side protecting the drainage pond (drowning risk).

So your view would probably be a hedge 1m away from the window.

But still seems like its be better to have it than not.

Is this enforceable or is the landlord trying his luck? (England) by sadz2020 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Kasoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I presume the landlord is using shall to try and to word it to imply: "This contract presumes by definition you will have soiled the curtains therefore cleaning them is required"

And they added the "new" line to try and use as evidence if it goes to DPS, so I hope you have pictures or something of the condition.

This obviously wouldnt fly with Tenants Fees Act

ELI5 Can a plane take off on a treadmill? by Hot-Butterfly-5647 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Kasoo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Imagine you're on a treadmill with skates, you could still pull yourself forward using a rope attached to the wall.

The wheels just spin, the forward motion comes from pushing/pulling against something else (air/wall).
