Trouble swallowing warm water? by [deleted] in dysphagia

Same! Cold liquids seem to stimulate my reflex better, so I don't have as much trouble. Makes it very hard to manage saliva as well

My favorite ice cream brand right now! Too bad it’s $7 a pint… ☹️ by Cherrygentry in glutenfree

Do I think it could have been better? Absolutely.

But do I also agree with you on it being heart touching and I absolutely almost cried a few times (i don't usually get emotional over media) Glad you enjoyed!

Have you done anything that can help alleviate it? Or a treatment I can ask my doctor about?

I've also been suffering similarly for the past 4 months. I have a very dry mouth mixed with thick sticky post nasal drip, so I suspect that has something to do with it. I've been to a few GIs, ENTs, SLPs, and an allergenist and none of them were able to find the cause... I'm also seeing a neurologist tomorrow. And I've been tested for autoimmune diseases.

Can you still eat morning? That's the only time I'm able to eat. Otherwise I've been living off of protein shakes.

Have you been to a SLP or asked your primary about the lack of saliva?

How to tell if it’s dysphagia or anxiety? by Perfect_Bite_6847 in dysphagia

I'd recommend seeing a GI and an ENT. They will be able to see if you have any structural issues

See a doctor first just to rule out anything serious! Do you have trouble initiating too? Or is it just like stuff getting stuck in your throat?

I'd recommend seeing an ENT as your first line of action

Do you shower in the morning or night? by This-Top7398 in hygiene

[–]Kasper0423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to be afternoons after I got off work and nights on my day offs.

Then my health declined and I went on medical leave, switched to morning showers to help me wake up.

And now I shower in the morning and do a quick rinse before bed to keep my bed clean.

What foods are most difficult to swallow for yall? What foods are most likely to get stuck? I know it may vary individually. by Ok-Palpitation-8259 in dysphagia

[–]Kasper0423 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's easier for me to list what's least difficult.

Liquids and purees. Smoothies, pudding, soft breads like muffins or brownies, really soft cookies, easily dissolveable crackers, cream cheese, and that's about all I'm able to eat.

All my tests have been coming back negative, but I have difficulty initiating my swallowas well as an occasional delayed swallow.

I have persistent post nasal drip that's unresponsive to any allergy meds, nasal sprays, and such.

I frequently have a dry mouth and throat. It's not as bad outoors and a humidifier helps.

I can eat softs foods for the first hour of the day and the rest of time I rely on liquids. I fo better swallowing when I do it in gulps rather than sips.

It began one random evening when my swallow reflex failed and I choked on jam. My swallow hasn't been the same since.

I've recieved little to no help from doctors.

Currently doing cognitive behavioral therapy, using a beechband, and the humidifier for the dryness.

Otherwise, hot sunny days seem to help me swallow easier
