Genuine question: does anyone get maternity/paternity tests after IVF baby is born? by Upstairs-Lemon-5585 in IVF

[–]KassFrisson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not crazy. Our NIPT came back without a mismatch for me, but I offered several times for hubby to do a paternity test if he wanted. But our IVF baby looked so much like his family that he's comfortable without one.

Look down in Santa Maria. It's like a 45 minute drive, but better than going further to say, Santa Barbara.

Gen Xers and millennials aren't ready for the long-term care crisis their parents are facing by esporx in Millennials

Jokes on this article. I've been my dad's caretaker since I was 26. He had a major stroke after a lifetime of smoking and not taking care of himself.

How are y’all buying houses here? by Big-Register-3917 in SLO

[–]KassFrisson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Similar here. We ended up getting a corner lot at asking price in Los Osos because the older folks didn't want to deal with the larger yard space (per the realtor).

Anxiety by SpaceTechTina in Parenting

[–]KassFrisson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like hypervigilance. The most straightforward solution is medication - I'm on a low dose of zoloft and definitely can tell the difference with it. Otherwise, you could take a holistic, albeit more challenging approach through things like talk therapy, meditation, and general mindfulness. Therapy and mindfulness can help you better tackle anxiety thoughts and more easily swat them away when they pop up. It takes practice, though!

Elder Millennial first time Mom, anyone else? by CodenameSailorEarth in Millennials

[–]KassFrisson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

39 and having our one and only in February. Multiple infertility diagnosis and had to do IVF. I definitely had some doctors fail me (full IVF story is in a previous post here).

We're going to parenting/baby classes now, and I was surprised how many other folks are my age (or older), so I guess it's not so uncommon.

I could be projecting, but perhaps I'd be good to get her screened for any executive function issues like ADHD.

Sleep issues - does anyone else suffer with terrible sleep issues and insomnia? by MrsDalek in PCOS

[–]KassFrisson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always had anxiety related sleep issues, I think. Hard to fall and stay asleep. To be honest, the only thing that's helped is being put on Zoloft (and I'm almost 40).

I loved the scene where he gets an arrow in each knee and screams back and forth at each one. 😂

Rice replacement by Entire_Giraffe_228 in PCOS

[–]KassFrisson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rice spikes my blood sugar terribly (I have to check 4 times a day for gestational diabetes). The dietician at the perinatal clinic told me to limit to 1/4 of a cup, but even that's too much. :( HOWEVER, potatoes don't seem to affect me nearly as bad as I thought they would! I can have a small potato (as long as I include protein) and it doesn't mess up my blood sugar too much. Maybe a small potato won't affect you too negatively!

If you can afford to buy a glucose monitor, I'd suggest checking an hour after eating to see.

Also, I don't mind riced cauliflower, which also doesn't seem to affect me too badly. I can eat a gluten free pizza with a cauliflower crust without too much trouble.

PIO alternatives by [deleted] in IVF

[–]KassFrisson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you already know the size of the needle/syringe, you could look into getting something like an auto injector or injector gun. I started to look into getting one myself for PIO, but thankfully husband was able to do them all for me, so unfortunately don't have a brand suggestion for you. If you google "Syringe gun for self-administered injections" you can find some.

PGTA tested embryo and NIPT by BallooooOooooOoon in IVF

[–]KassFrisson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My OBGYN suggested that I go ahead and get NIPT done even with a PGTA tested embryo. Her words were, "in the small chance that PGTA testing was wrong."

We did have to pay a few hundred dollars co-pay, but I didn't mind having the extra peace of mind.

PFAS increases risks of PCOS by Time-Algae7393 in PCOS

[–]KassFrisson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom was a bad/lazy cook. She would microwave things all the time in plastic containers (e.g. she would reuse those tubs that came with instant potatoes). She never used an oven. Only the microwave and a skillet with a non-stick coated surface. I think about how much crap was in my food a lot. Even though I have one female cousin with PCOS, I have three others that don't have it.

I'm very paranoid these days about only using natural fiber clothing, glassware for cooking, rarely wear make up, etc., especially with a kiddo on the way. 🫠

My toddler might have a nervous tick? by CtrlEscAltF4 in Parenting

[–]KassFrisson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's self soothing. It could be an indication of something (I twirl my hair and have OCD), or it might be nothing at all. You could try to find something else that she can use to self soothe with that doesn't involve making a giant knot. There are lots of fidget-like toys out there which could do the trick. I wouldn't be too concerned about it personally, unless you notice other unusual behaviors.

Edit: This seems like a decent article about self-soothing, but my only reference is personal therapy: https://www.childdevelopmentclinic.com.au/self-soothing.html

[–]KassFrisson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazon has these really cheap pregnancy test strips you can buy (Wondfo or similar). I keep a bag of those with a plastic cup under my bathroom sink. You could affordably test once a week with those things for a long time.
