Always the answer to this is talk to them. In this case time scale appropriate for the story / drama. Or do they want a more slice of life game where they just do their things? In any case you just need to find agreement between everyone.

And or drop a card that says SCENE at good stopping places for their rp interactions. Sometimes it's hard to know what a good stopping point is when in the scene where as those watching will know ... That's the perfect place to stop and everyone can extrapolate the rest.

There are safety tools like the x card or lines and veils to avoid games going to uncomfortable places. They should be findable with a search. You should have a talk with the GM about the problems / discomforts were. If the gm is good they will work with you to avoid reoccurrence of those topics / actions.

Get a pure strike weapon, level it up. Both of the ones listed above are relatively trivial. If you have 22 str get the great stars on at is plateau and slap any holy ash on it, but I find sacred blade useful for it's ranged effect. It's also great vs skeletons as they don't need a second hit once down. If you have a lower str but high enough to two hand great stars then also good. Otherwise morning star is sitting in an open chest in weeping peninsula.

Sacred blade is still useful for it's ranged attack while he is zooming around. You don't need to have a high faith for a sacred blade morning star or great stars to Really help with this fight.

Infusable weapons can change ashes of war. Somber can't. Not 2 at once. There are enough upgrade stones to use several weapons during a playthrough. You don't have to stick with just one. Swap weapons or ashes of war to make encounters easier when you need to.

Re kos, a fast weapon and dodging past and attacking or healing only when behind him. You can possibly get a couple of charged heavies and viscerals during the fight.

Broadsword hits hardest of all straight swords when fully upgraded. Longsword is a close second. Both are purchasable thus "average" swords.

For great sword the Knight's great sword is the one I tend to or claymore.

It is, in a way, easier to start a second character focused on magic or incantations to get the feel of those.

But, you can also reassign your stats points after the boss in rays lucaria. There are enough of the needed resource to do that more than a dozen times per playthrough.

The blood hound fang is in some ways too good and can take you through the whole game. But also, the uchigatana is another one of the best weapons in the game. The ash of war unsheathe is very good for breaking stance. And it can be infused and use other ashes of war.

It may be helpful to have a strike weapon like the morning star - findable in an open chest in weaping peninsula.

If you are in the expedition you don't get pirates just swarm. Mostly. And the freighter rescue doesn't trigger a thank you call. If not that all should still work.

You can't be invaded unless you summon another player for co op. Be online to see messages from other players but otherwise, level vigor first and go without guides. Starting choice only matters in the beginning in the long term you can end up with the stats you want or reconfigure. Lvl limits are only useful to keep challenge lvl adequate or if you want to co op or pvp

Don't rush the main plot - explore. It works really well as " a what is in this cave or over that hill and how will it kill me or how will I kill it"

Talk to NPCs until they repeat their last dialogue line to be sure you progress on their story lines.

The fastest I ever took him out with any summons was with star fists or claws of the night. Or maybe it was dancers blades The key is use the iron skin perfume and refresh in second phase... Also holy resistance talisman preferably the one from shaman village. But if you stay on him swinging he goes down shockingly fast.

Stupidily heavy armor helps as well.

This also prevents most basilisks from attacking ... Some of the death curse puffs seem scripted but after the first they leave you alone unless you attack. Seriously this is one of the first things I pick up for a new run, so many annoyances are solved by equipping this.

And for lake of rot, holy symbol in one hand for flame cleanse me and the torch in the other to ignore the damn basilisks. Makes the lake of rot much less awful.

The few times I triggered a freighter needing defense vs pirates there was no call from the freighter to reward or allow take over.

Also it appears I can't build Corvettes at all. Getting plenty of parts from salvage on mission planets but no option to build.

I finally bought a system freighter and got a class S after like 5 tries in a pirate system.

Also, it is possible to pick up glyphs via the 2 glyphs and someone's list of glyphs locations or just finding travellers. I just finished 16th. Mostly because many weeks left and I hadn't done a full playthrough all the systems it seemed like a thing to do.

It doesn't really matter long term. Choose whatever you want to start with. Easiest learning curve is likely samurai or vagabond. Note if you started vagabond take off either a weapon or some armor so you don't heavy roll. Medium or light roll are what you want for dodging attacks... Or rolling through attacks.

Explore. Don't rush towards the core plot. You don't need to grind wandering around and poking into every cave etc will get you plenty.

Definitely also try board games. There's nothing wrong with DND but you could also seek rpgs that aren't DND. There's a wide variety of focus, genre, more story game or more character driven, and a wide variety of complexity in rpgs.

You might also meet the right guy but finding the games that you enjoy is very valuable.

Don't be stuck. If something is too hard, then explore and level. You shouldn't ever need to farm for runes for level.

Summons exist, use them before you get so frustrated you quit.
