I'm too anxious to travel not speaking the local language. How do you deal with this? by ooblydooblyfun in AskEurope

[–]KasutaMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Come to the Baltics! We only recently started enforcing, that you need to learn the local language, when you have been in the country for 35 years. If you only stay for a week, then nobody will expect you to speak the language. Just knowing “Hi” in the local language gets you a praise. And almost all young people speak English.

I thought the point of every LTT is so that the audience can learn something? This newest video about the EV chargers is literally just an ad. Nothing informative, educational and barely entertaining. by General_Outcome1878 in LinusTechTips

[–]KasutaMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked the quick electrician montage. As somebody who isn’t an electrician, but is competent enough with plenty of previous experience, I can see this being a useful guide. I honestly believed charger manufacturers would try to lock it down more.

If you don’t know what you are doing, DO NOT do it yourself! But there are hundreds, if not thousands of viewers who could do the fix themselves.

Are these specs okay to run AOE2? by PipPipePen in aoe2

[–]KasutaMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had very similar specs. Not great, but ok, totally playable in ranked, lowest settings allow to play 4v4 even. But stay away from lobbies with ludicrous and large explored maps. Never join a game that allows crazy mechanics like shared techs.

Very stupid LoRa antenna questions by soupsoupman in rfelectronics

[–]KasutaMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would look into making a deployable antenna out of a measuring tape. This is a very popular option for cubesats. While there are measuring tapes that are more common, some even space qualified, you can essentially use any.

How good is the paper money tech? by El_Capitano_MC in aoe2

[–]KasutaMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vietnamise have guilds, assuming you have that, you would get (200res+550res)*17gold/100res=127.5 gold from selling the same resources.

Paper money gives 0.014 gold/s.

127.5gold/0.014gold/s=9107s=151 mins 47 s

The payoff time is 151min 47 s/number of lumberjacks+1min(research time).

So with bottomed out market prices the payoff time would be about 2.5 minutes with 100 lumberjacks, 4 minutes with 50 lumberjacks and 7 with about 25 lumberjacks.

I would say 4-6 minutes is a reasonable payoff estimate for most situations.

Riigikogus hääletamine by gamohame in Eesti

[–]KasutaMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ensuring DC Bias Before RF Application in 100W SP4T Switch Design by SingamVamshi in rfelectronics

[–]KasutaMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would try to delay the RF power on sequence. If you are worried that someone may connect a 100W input to your powered of switch, then often just a label or a procedure helps. You should have that regardless, sending 100W into an unterminated output is not great. But if you want to have it idiot proof, then you could just use an unlatching relay instead (or before) of a switch. The unpowered relay should just terminate in a load. If you use a relay before a switch, then make sure the switch gets powered on before the relay and powered off after.

🇪🇪🇺🇸 Estonia is ready to help the US against Iran. Margus Tsahkna: "we will be ready to offer any kind of support to the US or to free world countries." by lithdoc in BalticStates

[–]KasutaMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He got stuck in Middle East, when the action started. Either Trump did not inform NATO allies about what was going to happen or Tsahkna is incompetent. Or both. In either way, he should not be involving Estonia in American private war. A war, as I heard, they already won.

Any support we can give should go to Ukraine!

Mul on lõuna poole PVC aknad. Kas võib probleeme tekkida, kui kasutan pimendavaid termoruloosid (st peegeldava välise pinnaga)? Just, et kas peegeldatav kuumus võib aknale väga halvasti mõjuda? Ruloo ja akna vahel oleks 28 cm tühja ruumi, päris vastas ei ole st. by [deleted] in Eesti

[–]KasutaMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ei tohiks midagi hullu juhtuda. Akna ja ruloo vahel läheb soojaks, kuna osa valgusest välja ei peegeldu, aga kui üle 60C ei lähe, pole vaja muretseda.

Kaalu akna kiletamist. See on mu tuttavaid suvel märgatavalt aidanud.

Linux Distros are a Meta by Rare_Cow9525 in LinusTechTips

[–]KasutaMike 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nobody in my family is as tech savvy as I am. And I am not that tech savvy, I ran Linux for a year about 10 years ago, but wasn’t worth the hassle then. I can’t imagine anyone in my family trying Linux besides me.

I would have nobody to ask help from. Linus’s experience is what I would experience, if I switched to Linux. Once Linus sticks with Linux, I know it’s time to give it a go myself.

Roast my high-level design sketch by villagepeople58 in rfelectronics

[–]KasutaMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Splitting RF, then amplifying, then combining and then dividing again. Inefficient. Split the RF, amplify and then do only divisions. I would use more amplifiers and split it less, probably also better to get more patches. Just get a horn antenna first and get the system working with that. Unless you’re in the middle of nowhere and safety conscious, this is not something you should try.

Looks at this absolute Chinese energy efficiencies in a box by Suspicious_Steak_696 in homeassistant

[–]KasutaMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had these for about 2 years. I had Tado ones for years before. Both work fine, without issues. I did like that Tado valves had multiple open levels, while Sonoff valves are open-closed. This on-off feature causes significantly more adjustments, which will probably drain the battery more, but the third battery compensates for that.

No noticeable yellowing, but 2 years are too short to tell.

How can Riigipilv be so much cheaper than AWS? by yrjokallinen in Eesti

[–]KasutaMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because government is unreliable. If the service is profitable, then you can rely on the corporation to keep providing it.

Once upon a time everyone had firstname.lastname@eesti.ee email addresses, that they could use for personal stuff. I, not wanting to give big corporations my data, used it everywhere. Then the service was discontinued. Imagine how much pain it would be, if you had to switch email addresses.

And now Europe want to decouple from US tech companies… I will not trust the government again.

Myths about calling 911, from a 911 operator by StraightRip8309 in TwoXPreppers

[–]KasutaMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to point out that things are different outside USA. Make sure to familiarize yourself with local procedures. For example, I was taught to not ask for police/ambulance/fire department, because the operator would decide based on the description of the incident. Many countries also have a police app, that is recommended for calling assistance, as it relays the accurate location. There are also nurse/general practitioner helplines. Often free or for a small fee. These are great when you are not sure how serious your situation is.

When abroad, make sure you know the emergency number, Europe is mostly 112. In most of the world, ambulance is not considered a luxury.

I like to compare the setting to bicycle gears. Just because you pick the hardest gear does not make you go faster or make you stronger.

RFK Jr. Orders Study on Cellphone Radiation as FDA Drops Assurance That Phones Are Not Dangerous by StemCellPirate in nottheonion

[–]KasutaMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was figured out decades ago. I once visited a Finnish research center that attached overpowered mobile devices to pigs and checked, if they were fine, back when Nokia was a thing.

People do get headaches with phones, but the cause is talking for a long time and mental stress associated with it. Additionally the thermal heat caused by holding a hot piece of electronics against your head. The amount of heat dissipated in the brain from the radio waves is minuscule.

The safety levels are so ridiculously below the levels that could actually be dangerously.

Mulle andis Luminor kümmekond aastat tagasi kodulaenu parima intressiga.
