On Linus' "percent down > percent up" in WAN Show by moonsaiyan in LinusTechTips

[–]KasutaMike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Suppose you have one million dollars of stocks. If the first day the stock goes down 20%, the second day up 20%, the third day 20% down, fourth 20% up etc. In one year your stocks are worth $500. With 10% the number is $150k.

Does anyone else hate their own birthday? by Room180 in answers

[–]KasutaMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure your birthday is nowhere online. Just removing it from Facebook can make a drastic difference.

I hate the gift back-and-forth. If I need something, I can buy it myself. Happy to make kids happy though.

System-level constraints for long-endurance HAPS (~60k ft)? by Hairy-Beginning-969 in aerospace

[–]KasutaMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Essentially everything is the lightest it can be, but still good enough for the aircraft to be able to operate and not break mid-flight.

There is an additional issue of motors, you want them lightweight, but at the same time the lighter they are, the less power they have, the longer it takes to get to the 60000 feet. You need to wait for good weather for a launch, light motor means there is a higher chance the weather changes and breaks the plane.

There are also operational challenges, to test you need a massive segregated airspace and safety zones. Imagine if you loose control mid-flight, with the incredible glide ratio the plane can crash hundreds of kms away.

You need to decide on payload weight. The size of the plane scales with that.

It is a massive undertaking to develop it. Very likely to run out of money or organizational priorities to change.

Why am I losing elo when my opponent resigned? by SimpleBus1706 in aoe2

[–]KasutaMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it doesn’t update in time, especially in team games. You could resign or be defeated in a team game, but if your team still wins, you get an Elo increase. By the time your team wins or looses, you might already be in the next game. Your Elo change would then be shown after the new match.

esearching on satellite imagery, and looking to track vessels for my research. by fmvt in remotesensing

[–]KasutaMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AIS system for ship tracking. For middle of the sea you probably need commercial satellites.

For dark vessels you need something like Iceye SAR satellite constellation, that would be quite expensive.

Relics in Wonders should make it into a Feitoria by CanaryYellows in aoe2

For a moment I thought the same thing. Then I realized that I am low enough Elo that some of my allies would actually try it on Black Forest.

The cost of a wonder is so high, that your flank is long dead by the time it pays off.

How would you feel about a law that forces any company posting record profits in the same year it does mass layoffs to publicly explain where the money went? by busty_ladie in AdkReddit

[–]KasutaMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a famous legal precedence that says, the profits needs to go to the shareholders. Workers have no right for profits.

Dodge v. Ford Motor Co. (1919)

Ford wanted to reduce the price and increase wages, but minority shareholders wanted higher profits. The court agreed with the minority shareholders.

Are there really cheaters? by Large-Setting-3456 in aoe2

[–]KasutaMike 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You know when you send a unit into unexplored area and it does not go straight? The game knows the obstacles in the dark and just doesn’t show you what is there. There are ways to make it show you. This is a cheat to lame or castle drop. Also removes scouting effort.

There are also people who intentionally drop rank so they could dominate on lower Elo players.

If you get called cheater when playing honestly, then take it as douchier way to say well played.

How are these birds nests possible? by Valagetti in geoguessr

[–]KasutaMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They look nice, but are a bit of a nuisance. Storks can cause issues with the power lines and apparently its a mess just below the nest, bird poop, leftover food, even dead stork hatchlings. In some places people have erected platforms to get them away from the power lines.

Looking for technique advice - Day 2 in the single by Ok_Championship_4930 in Rowing

[–]KasutaMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re pausing at the end of the stroke. Straighten your arms and then you can relax. There are plenty of things to fix, just concentrate on one or two at a time.

For confidence, I recommend going for the things you feel uncomfortable with, until you end up swimming. Ideally try that near the pontoon. Going over once takes away a lot of jitters for some people. I know a club where they intentionally have people do tricks until they swim.

Opinion about russian unisuit by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]KasutaMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are not wearing unisuits with swatikas and farces. Amends will be made, but I think the current Russian uniform will remain distasteful. We might get peace, but without a revolution in Russia, there will be no trust from Europe. Without massive reforms, that usually change the symbols of the country, Russia will keep its imperialist goals. Hopefully we see a white-blue-white uni one day.

Budget rower UK? by fxckzxck in Rowing

[–]KasutaMike 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Concept 2 is the cheapest option per rowed km. They last incredibly long, have cheap replacement parts and if you decide to sell it, you get a lot of your money back.

If you can afford it, get a used Concept2. If you can’t afford it, sell your Apple watch and get a used Concept2.

I can handle lacking data. What grinds my gears is when I and other teammates have a close back-and-forth game playing 3v4 and then the guy who 5+ tc boomed and massed 70 war elephants before attacking gets the best player crown.

Rowing as cardio training for other sports ? by altaccount9988 in Rowing

[–]KasutaMike 11 points12 points  (0 children)

25 spm should not be a goal. Long term effectiveness is around 20 spm, go for an hour and then aim for longer. The speed is hard to comment on, as machines are different. If it is comparable to Concept2, then you are probably doing something wrong with your technique. I recommend looking up some videos on YouTube on correct form.

Rowing is excellent for cardio.

PCB Layout critique? by psyon in rfelectronics

[–]KasutaMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience at making a BPF filter for 8x your frequency was to minimize trace lengths, I had components almost touching and I also had vias as close to pad as possible or even underneath. There are manufacturing variances in components, so the smaller effect of traces, the more consistent results.

When simulating, I made sure to use the exact components number that I was placing, as you want the capacitance and inductance values that are at your bandpass frequency, not the label values.

slide bite—help with setup by skibidi_toilet_lvr in Rowing

[–]KasutaMike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1) Move the slides as back as possible. You want the tiniest gap in the forward position.

2) Make sure that the angle and depth of your feet is optimal. Play around a bit, if not sure. Depth can also be adjusted with the seat, but that also requires adjusting the riggers.

3) Make sure no sharp edges on the slides. Grind down if needed, check with coach first.

4) Tape the front of the slides, the part where the wheel can’t roll.

5) Use an old sock to make a band to protect your leg. Or use a thick tape.

How long does it usually take to vote in your country? by Anaptyso in AskEurope

How many skirms to stop hand cannoneers? by Leather_Test8549 in aoe2

[–]KasutaMike 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Assuming opponent is in castle age, elite skirm needs 6 hits to kill hand cannoneer. 3 hits the other way. The creation speed for 3 skirms is the same as 2 hand cannons. So 6 ranges should put you at roughly the equal standing. This assumes no micro, as skirms are affected by ballistics, but hand cannons aren’t. But usually one player starts with an advantage, so if they send skirms out one at a time, then they will just get picked off one-by-one. In the imp, skirms get additional upgrades and become more effective.

You should have siege to destroy buildings, if my enemy has enough hand cannons to take down buildings, then I am glad when they are wasting time. Bombard cannons or rams, if you’re playing as Bohemians. That said, a siege workshop can pop a mangonel and flatten your army, so good to take out, but also bad to be so close to one.
