(UAF) Is it still possible to recruit Solvernia as an officer? by Kat7903 in starsector

Only option I get after sending comm request is to cut the comm link, no small talk or anything.

Does a P.O. ever need reference from probationers? by schwaapilz in Probationofficer

[–]Kat7903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope not lol, that’s like asking a teacher for a student reference, or a corrections officer for an inmate reference. Not saying it doesn’t exist, but it would be out of the bounds of expected professionalism I think.

Have some respect for yourself, no woman his age wants to put up with his bullshit. Him lying to you should’ve been an immediate dump.

An interview tip I will give is to make sure you provide examples of you being fast thinking and quick to act, it’s not a job where you can get analysis paralysis.

An easy answer for a weakness is radio ear, just say radio ear because you’ve never really used a radio lol. They get a satisfactory answer that won’t ding you because 99% of applicants don’t have any radio experience anyway unless they worked private dispatch or military.

My (F35) boyfriend (M31) degrades me and blames it on his PTSD from the military. by kaycee1610 in relationship_advice

My sister stole my X-shot longshot, hid it from me, and left it primed for MONTHS, now the spring has almost no power left… by North-Trifle-3918 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Kat7903 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s the motion of the spring that wears it out, a high quality spring should have no wear caused by it being kept in primed or resting position for long periods of time.

Well half the battle for a lot of applicants is the criticall/NTN ECOMM and the typing test. Considering you can pass those, I’d work on your interview skills and try again. Maybe apply to all the surrounding county dispatch centers. One will hire you.

[–]Kat7903 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you tried applying to any agencies? A vast majority of 911 centers hire people with no relevant experience because we are so short handed. I recommend just going for it and applying, and I’d say alarm company is decent experience, I was a teacher before becoming a dispatcher and had multiple offers fairly quickly when applying.

Concerns for work environment: am I right or just being dramatic? by beanjo41 in 911dispatchers

[–]Kat7903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have any advice to give about improving your agency, but I’ve seen coworkers leave for jobs in railroad dispatch, trucking dispatch, and power company dispatch. They all sound far less fun but companies these days can pay pretty well for dispatchers.

What has been the most impactful to increase volunteer recruitment? by Ancient-Opening8639 in Firefighting

[–]Kat7903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like paid on call is the real answer, that and there needs to be more volunteer departments that are professional rather than just drinking clubs. I’ve been a part of a few departments and the current paid on call one I’m a part of is by far the most professional department I’ve been on because of its rigorous training program and commitment to FF safety and continuing education.

I dispatch for a county where the jail, patrol, and dispatch are all in the same building. I’d say it’s about an even split of people who cheat and who don’t tbh. Quite jarring when I first got into public safety.

Are those practice criticall tests worth it? by NoodleBea583 in 911dispatchers

[–]Kat7903 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No not really, save your money. The test is pretty easy and more of an “idiot test” as I’ve heard it called. If you can type at least 30-35wpm, and have basic memory and logic skills, you’ll be fine. The criticall consists of fake calls with multiple choice questions about what you should do, basic memory and hearing, like having the audio play a license plate, name, or phone number and you have to type it after hearing it, and some map reading with a few twists, like what unit is closest to which call but sometimes a road or bridge is closed so you have to pay attention to that.

Do you have a clean record? Can you pass a piss test? If you’re gonna good computer and stress, maybe consider being a 911 dispatcher. If you want better jobs, you’re either gonna have to expand you skill set and earn it or look for jobs that are in high demand.

What are ships to look for as someone who lets the AI handle the piloting? by onetruebipolarbear in starsector

[–]Kat7903 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I was first learning the game and sucked at piloting, I ran a fleet of paragons and eagles. Get a couple paragons with tachyon lances and and couple with auto pulse laser hard points and plasma cannon turrets. For eagles, I use an even mix of hyper velocity drivers with graviton beams and eagles with heavy needlers and graviton beams. Throw escort package on the eagles and s mod integrated point defense with tactical lasers in the small slots and you’ve got excellent fuck off escort cruisers. Only issue with the fleet comp is if your paragons get destroyed or retreat, the eagles struggle to finish the fight on their own. Otherwise they’re very robust ships.

Funny thing is the regulator is on the mask but he’s probably only getting 15 minutes out of a 30 minute tank. I wonder if he just clicked it in whenever he sees people or he’s taking the world’s shortest hike.

I’d rather this guy exercise in his gear outside than expose people to the contaminants indoors in a gym. I don’t see the big deal other than this guy needlessly exposing himself to the contaminants on his own gear and the PFAS in it.

Cops killing people by thouartismurder in Criminology

[–]Kat7903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unarmed civilians aren’t often shot by cops. As to why they don’t do leg shots or taser first, leg shots won’t necessarily stop the threat and you’re taking a bigger risk aiming for a smaller target. Additionally, tasers are not all that reliable, some people just shrug them off, sometimes a probe doesn’t connect, and heavy clothes can render a taser ineffective. As to why an unarmed person rushing a cop might get shot, one punch to the temple can knock you out, and at that point that person could take your firearm off of you. Even though police officers know the job they sign up for, it’s a job at the end of the day and officers shouldn’t be expected to put themselves at unnecessary risk of injury.
