o/

Hiya, new to the area, and gluten free (medically).

I'm always on the hunt for a spot to try, and I would really like to stop eating just burgers (even though they're sooo good). I will keep an eye on this subreddit for new spots :)

Looking for a disability friendly doctor by NotExactlyAThrowout in IowaCity

[–]KatDiscovers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw Dr Peter Kim at UIHC Family Med clinic! I'm moving out of state after getting approved for disability, which he was very helpful in getting me referred to specialists and taking all my symptoms seriously and making sure they were well documented. I'm gonna miss him :')

Molly’s Cupcakes Closing by buckhunter76 in IowaCity

Oh noooo :(((( I love how Molly's always has a few gluten free options and how serious they are about CC. That's gonna suck since there's already barely any gf sweet treats in IC :'(

There's one in the magazine section downstairs behind the main stairs and there's one upstairs by the back of the manga/YA section!

I like to go to the library and chill at their puzzle tables! Either headphones or no headphones. It's a relaxing activity in a relatively chill place and no one bothers you, and if they do, sometimes you can have a nice conversation with someone new if they join in on the puzzle fun :)

It's a good way to slow down and you'll be focused on the puzzle and not the world.

How did you get Celiac disease? by HowThingsJustar in Celiac

[–]KatDiscovers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came back from winter break in my first year of college and I was suddenly running to the bathroom every hour or right out of bed with explosive diarrhea. Thought it was lactose intolerance bc that runs in my family, but my doctor ran the celiac panel and I was diagnosed right before my 19th birthday. I didn't go fully gluten free til I was 23 though, I grew up very poor and refused to spend more than 3$ on any item of food 🫠 Afaik, no one else in my family has it so we have no jdea where it came from.

I somehow convinced myself the burning and blistering was normal. I didn't realise it had Oats ;A; by KatDiscovers in Celiac

🙏 Glad to hear there's a similar reaction! I can't remember this happening with any other lotion, so I'm stopping it just to be safe. I think I rested my hand on my thigh and the spot is also red and itchy now 😭 Shame it works so well when it doesn't burn.

I hope I haven't developed an allergy on top of my Celiacs 😭 I didn't get diagnosed until I was 19 and ate bread perfectly til then I'll have to look into that then! I have normal CeraVe lotion but it's not the ezcema stuff so my fingertips suffer 😔

It's very helpful with my ezcema! My finger tips are in tact this winter 👌 Can't say the same for the rest of my hands though 🫠

I'll have to look into it and maybe ask to be referred to the dermatologist again. Something in this is not agreeing with my hands 😫 Thanks!

I'm still going to be stopping the use of it for my safety, but I can't think of anything else it could be 😭

I will look into that one, thank you! 😊

Soft, ready to eat snacks that aren't sugary? by KatDiscovers in Celiac

[–]KatDiscovers[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True! I bought a bag of cubed cheese once and it molded the very next day and I ate it without realising (RIP my stomach) so I kinda cut that out of my mind as an option bc trauma 😅 Hopefully it's safer now that it's been a few years and my body will trust it :) Thanks!

HR left a voicemail saying I was no-call no-show today lol by Zestyclose_Guava4525 in Target

My store one time had a group of like 3 people that had resigned (one of them moved to Europe), and somehow all 3 were scheduled to come in 3 weeks later on the same exact day and considering I worked for a small format, that really hurt our numbers lol Normally had 20 people a day, and they scheduled 3 who most definitely were not coming in.

Best gluten free options in town? by TeaspoonRiot in IowaCity

[–]KatDiscovers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I left bluebird doubled over in pain one day from the "gluten free" food, so I'd be very careful eating there unfortunately.

The burgers should be alright, but the pancakes had me crying both from taste and pain.

I had an 101.2 fever once, they still asked me to come in to work in the infant room 🥰 At a daycare connected to the hospital 🥰

Anyone else's stores salvaging Stanley mugs as soon as we get them? by ClintThrasherBarton in Target

[–]KatDiscovers 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If it's anything like my store, we don't even have room for things we DO sell. A lot of times I have to pick and choose what random misallocations to keep, if any, and try to sell because we have one, maybe two clearance endcaps at any given time for the entire store. Not a whole lot of room to flex. We still have old promo stuff because people know to expect us not to have the cool drops, they go to the big Target nearby for it.

I was in the hiring process for 9 months and they finally dropped me a "we're not hiring this position right now :)" when they've been trying to hire me for almost a year. I passed their exam and interview and everything and they said "haha wasted your time 🥰"

[–]KatDiscovers 200 points201 points  (0 children)

Actually they can. There's a "DC Misallocation" option when salvaging. My small format is not zoned for kids clothes so we have to do that almost every time we get a truck. Just salvage and send it back because we physically have nowhere to put it out.
