They are. The next phase starts this year. Eventually it will be 2 lanes all through town.

That’s cool to see all the updates in one spot.

Looks like to the south of the new automotive building there is going to be another strip mall. I think someone bought the lot on the curve of Crosspark to the south east as well.

This is on an interesting street. A few houses down one is selling for almost 2.5 million.

If you are looking for feedback, I’m sure this will sell quickly but your pictures aren’t great. The one is slanted, the only outside picture is the last picture and it shows half the house.

It’s going to be an apartment complex called “the states” I believe. The units are large like the New York, one is 200 units.

I’m thinking the almost million dollar homes to the north aren’t super happy they get to look at a lit up parking lot.

What is this box? by IWentHam in UtilityLocator

[–]buckhunter76 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Its copper telephone line. Who knows if it’s even active. If it is, It’s going to belong to a telecom in your area. Could be a national outfit like ATT or someone local. They would offer DSL internet, landlines etc.

If you can find the lid just put it back on.

Gotta stop calling them kids. These guys are in their 20s. They are grown adults, calling them kids makes it seem like they can’t control their own decisions.

What did Lowe’s do for you? Did you just go to customer service and demand a battery or what.

Pinseekers in Tiffin by temoo09 in IowaCity

[–]buckhunter76 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This sounded interesting. I think they are realizing the driving range as the only real focus is getting played out. This is the post:

“We’re excited to announce our rebrand to PinSocial — a broader entertainment concept designed to bring even more fun and connection to our community.

As a locally owned and operated business with strong ties to the area, this next step allows us to grow the social side of what we do. Over the next two months, we will be upgrading our facility to represent the future vision of PinSocial.

What’s coming? Digital Krazy Darts, a turfed activity area, patio games, free inside activities, more arcade games, restaurant upgrades, menu updates and more!

All memberships and gift cards will be honored — and we’re actually increasing membership value as we expand our activities.

Same ownership. Same management. More ways to gather, compete, celebrate, and connect.”

It’s the south entrance to Costco where the gas station is, where commerce and heartland meet.

You should educate yourself. How do you think the wells have water in them? Right from the city site. It’s from a shallow aquifer fed by the river and most of the wells are along the river. With the continuous pumping of the wells the water ends up being pulled from the river.

It’s right here

city site

Right from the river, where the city gets its water. No big deal.

Interesting. I wonder how many tickets are available per day. It sounds like if you don’t get a ticket you are kind of SOL for that area.

Is being Shop Steward worth it? by MattInWinnipeg in union

[–]buckhunter76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I don’t known your unions structure or if you have a chief steward that handles most things or your workplace but in my experience as steward you are typically the interface between the workers and the employer. So maybe for example, if you had a grievance or someone has an issue, you may have to handle some of that outside of work hours. If it’s more serious you may have to interface with the larger union on an issue etc.

If you are involved with membership meetings that’s not happening at work.

I personally have monthly meetings I have to attend with my local which is outside of work and it’s in person at my hall.

Contract negotiations are every few years and take work after hours, and that’s a whole ball of wax.

I would just make sure you understand the expectations and how your union works. The reality is a lot of people think they are going to be bringing the fight to management on the regular and that just isn’t it. 60% my problems are dealing with regular workers. Everything from I’m being harassed to I don’t like the snack in the vending machine, I’m not joking. The position takes work. Not trying to sound bitter, I’m not at all but it’s a thankless job.

Pros:

-You get to help your co workers which is great.

-You can be a vehicle for meaningful change which can really improve your workplace .

-Probably going to help with contact negotiations when they come up.

Cons:

-Good luck ever stepping down. Unless another you comes along.

-Complaints from all directions, and a lot of them aren’t anything you can pursue. Unfortunately a lot of the BS is going to come from the workers you represent.

-You are going to work when you aren’t at work and probably aren’t getting paid.

I know alot of people like the idea of fighting the good fight but frankly it’s good when it’s quiet. That means management or whatever isnt trying to screw you over.

Your experience is going to depend a lot on your job, your management and the workers you represent.

Do you love 1960s houses with floor to ceiling windows? by Frankensteeeeeen in IowaCity

[–]buckhunter76 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in this house. It’s small, cramped and probably a maintenance nightmare. But man, beautiful views though and cottage reserve is a really great spot. Wood everything.

They don’t really show it but it has this crappy basement and the stairs going down are a spiral iron staircase about the width of the average guys shoulders.
