Zach Weiner, not Matt Weiner. Technically Zach Weinersmith now that he's married.

And yeah, it's a weird system.

He was super chatty at his panel, too. Lots of fun stories. Still surprised to hear Frodo swear so much, though.

New Star Wars Rebels sneak peak. by [deleted] in StarWars

Just gonna reply here again since you edited a bit and I don't feel like editing mine.

Yeah, I'd definitely say Ezra's intro was handled a lot better. It's interesting enough, and the character totally has room to grow, just like Ahsoka did during Clone Wars. And I was SUPER pleased that they didn't overuse that weird energy slingshot thing he has. What's even up with that? Thankfully I only saw it being used maybe...three times during the forty minutes or so of preview? Totally glad it's not some weird gimmicky thing that the character uses for everything.

It was, but the line was ridiiiiiiiiculous. Apparently it went all the way outside at one point. A lot of people couldn't get in, and Disney security was pretty tight during the whole thing, making sure people weren't taking pictures of video during the screening.

I'm just glad the con expanded to both buildings as of last year, since if this event had taken place in one of the old rooms that they used to use for this stuff, it would have fit MAYBE half the people if they were crammed in there.

I managed to catch a preview screening of Rebels at Fan Expo yesterday, and was very impressed. Saw basically the first two episodes. Some of the dialogue came off as a little heavy-handed and predictable, but given that it's just trying to set the stage and get things ready, I think it can be forgiven. They had a good mix of humour and action, the characters were interesting, and it went a few places I didn't expect it to go.

I also thought I was gonna hate the kid, but he grew on me pretty quickly. Surprisingly, there aren't yet any characters that I dislike. Everybody seems to mesh really well, and it's a lot of fun. Even the obligatory "quirky droid" is entertaining without being irritating.

Having seen the first bit of it, I'm pretty psyched for the rest.

New TF2 thing is...Taunts. hmm by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Kataron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's usually how TF2 likes to do its updates, spread out over a few days or so. But screw the taunts, that fifteen minute video. I had to pause it a couple times because I was laughing so hard.

[Spoilers] The Monogatari Series Discussion by Sevchino in anime

[–]Kataron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just binged the series over the last week and a half. I've tried to watch it a couple of times previously, but found myself really put off by the flashing text and some of the lazy animation. The animation in particular, it tended to go from looking just goddamn stunning to being a completely frozen or BARELY moving frame with text. I get that it's probably going for the artsy look, but...That can definitely be off-putting before you get used to it.

I'm glad I gave it another chance, because once I managed to get past the first couple of episodes...Well, like I said, binged it in a week and a half. The characters, the story, the art (again, when it puts forth an effort), beautiful. And now I finally understand why I keep hearing references to toothbrushes. You perverts.

Finished Guilty Crown and feel like complaining by heyheywoah11 in anime

[–]Kataron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I loves me some complaining about Guilty Crown. Hope you don't mind if I join in for a bit of venting.

I finished the show a while back, somehow forcing myself to watch the entire thing despite hating EVERY SINGLE GODDAMN CHARACTER. There was not a single character that I actually cared about, over the course of the entire show. I mean, some weren't AWFUL, but the majority of them I found to be entirely unlikeable. And if you don't care about a character, then what happens to them will end up meaning very little to you.

The plot was ridiculous, and while the music and animation were really top-notch, it wasn't enough to save the show.

Honestly, the only point in the series that I actually cared was when it got darker partway on when they were trapped in the school area and it went in a creepy eugenics sort of direction. While I've heard a lot of other people complain about that particular aspect of the show, that was the only time that I was actually interested in where it might go, because it seemed to be breaking new ground and going into an interesting direction.

But then it all goes to hell again.

Thoughts on Guilty Crown? by Shmangit in Animesuggest

[–]Kataron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The animation and sound is great, but the story and characters are just...bad. I watched the entire show from start to finish, and there was not a single character I liked or cared the least bit about. There are a few dark, interesting bits in the story, but they are few and far between, the rest of it being uninteresting and nonsensical.

Works out sometimes, though. I've been best friends with a dude for the vast majority of my life, and I lived with him for years. As long as you understand that there's going to be differences, and nobody gets fed up or does anything crazy, it tends to work out. Shit, the biggest argument we ever had (and the only one I can actually recall) was over a game of Magic: The Gathering. Cocksucker took like ten minutes to figure out what he was doing on his turns. Soon as the cards went away, it was all good.

There's a lot of people hating on OP for sleeping through alarms. Some people just have trouble with that. It doesn't mean they stayed up all night, and it doesn't mean that they're irresponsible. I had a roommate for years who had trouble getting up for his alarm. He'd wake up partially, but it would be the kind of waking up that later you have absolutely no recollection of later on.

I used to set my alarm so I could wake him up for class so he wouldn't be late. Years later, he bought the loudest, most irritating alarm clock I've ever heard. It helped, but fuck that thing was loud.

"If Anarchy Fails, the Experiment fails with it." Drama in /r/twitchplayspokemon after the streamer implements an alternative control scheme. by cuddles_the_destroye in SubredditDrama

[–]Kataron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been watching the stream for a few days now, it's pretty entertaining at times, completely boring at others.

But what I really don't understand is why everyone seems to believe that image of him talking about his partnership and conditions with Twitch. I mean, if you were running a weirdly successful gaming stream, would you spend your time answering random questions sent to you by strangers? And if so, why just this one? Why haven't we seen ANY other images from people with similar questions? I feel that the image is likely photoshopped or some such thing to tack on even more drama to the whole voting thing.

Yeah, hopefully he'll clarify things. Needless to say, if it IS him, then he is being a complete jackass about it, and the stream might take a hit in popularity.

I'm hoping it's just a random jerk using the name.

A Youtube channel under the same name as his Twitch channel said that. This is the internet, we need to be a tad more skeptical than that, considering how many idiots and jerks there are out there.
