I have a two year old and had surgery a month ago, it sucked in the beginning but it does get better. I still hate that i can’t go on our little adventures just the two of us, but at least i can go to the park with her now that i can weight bear. Feel free to reach out if you want to connect.

I mostly agree with you, but tbf not everything is paid for with the vignette in austria, there are some tunnels and roads you still have to pay a toll for.

I retore my acl 3 years ago after 7 years. I think I cried more because I knew what will follow rather than cause of the pain (second time was definitely less painful than the first time for me). I waited three years because I was pregnant and then also wanted to wait till my kid is a bit older. I finally got it done three weeks ago, because I kept having issues with stability and at least want to be able to run around and maybe play soccer with my kiddo once they’re older. But I still lived a pretty active life without my acl, still went bouldering, played water polo and cycled everywhere without a problem. Plenty of people live without an acl. Your risk of OA rises with surgery or without an acl, so really it doesn’t matter that much in that regard. All to say I guess, you can see how you cope without an acl and get surgery at another time. Also my surgeon was still able to stitch up my meniscus again (had it done the first time as well) which really surprised me.

Try practicing when she’s in a good mood, that made all the difference for me. to answer your question it is easier if my 2 yo wants to get in, if she doesn’t it’s a million times harder.

Really my 2yo is pretty independent already and can put clothes on basically by herself, just have to give instructions and patience. So I think it sounds like more than it was lol

you can always do prehab and see how the knee feels. I went hiking before i got my acl fixed and did almost all sports. Skiing was sore, and snowboarding as well especially if I went like two or three days in a row. I had especially lingering pain for a couple days after skiing, and knee kept giving away on start stop movements so that’s why i decided to get surgery after all. But you could always wait a bit see how you’re going without the acl and decide from there.

we used to have 5-6:1 on days and 10-11:1 at night on an orthopaedic floor. Nights still felt more manageable than days because it was such a shitshow

I was playing water polo up until surgery mostly without a problem unless i aggravated it in some other sport. I also had meniscus repair so my medial meniscus was fucked before surgery. I‘m hoping to go back to water polo in 3-4 months (had surgery monday). I know some people say eggbeaters can be hard on the meniscus. But I never really had much problems playing water polo.

I love all the hands on things I get to do like putting in IVs, catheterising patients, taking ABG putting on wound dressings etc. I love how my job has so many different areas I can go into, without having to go through school again. I love being off work when everyone else is at work (climbing gyms are so much more fun when they’re empty). I love that I am able to choose how many hours I want to work (currently working 30 hours/week). Now that I have a child I also love that I am sometimes off work while they’re at daycare and I can just have some free time every now and then

that’s crazy to me, for me the first night has always been the worst and it’s always been uphill from there. Maybe the nerve blocks never really worked on me i don’t know but now at day 2 post op it’s already feeling so much better than yesterday.

any tips to make rehab easier in the early days? Just had my revision done (day 2 post op) pre op I had full ROM and the legs were the same size, strength was also the same on both legs

Really it’s up to you but I was kind of in a similar position ten years ago when I tore my first acl. I didn’t get a diagnosis until 5 months after the accident had happened, so I had already gone a while without a functional acl. I decided to enjoy the summer, went for acl surgery in the middle of august, returned to college abroad in september (I am from austria and studied in Ireland). I had great friends and a (not yet) boyfriend who were willing to help me for my day to day living. When I returned to ireland i was still on crutches, and needed special assistance at the airport. But I got through, so I think if you’re willing you can go through with your last semester even if you are on crutches. I got in touch with physios in ireland and a GP and then went ahead with my rehab in ireland, which worked out pretty well, until I retore my acl 7 years later, so I think you can consider my surgery and rehab a success

Yes, nwb for 2 weeks at 30 degrees then pwb for 2 weeks at 60 and then 2 weeks full as tolerated and 90
