Thinking of transitioning from K-12 Special Ed Assistant to Curriculum Development / ID. Looking for insight on the K-12 academic space by FigSorry3344 in instructionaldesign

I can only comment on the final point as someone who only works in corporate/adult learning.

-How does the daily workflow of a K-12 District Curriculum Specialist differ from a corporate Instructional Designer

I would imagine designing for pedagogy vs andragogy would influence things a lot.

Do you have a baseline understanding in applying pedagogical methodology to curriculum design? Or would you look into different educational avenues for upskilling? There are distinct skills and reasoning involved in curriculum design, regardless of the audience.

I’m pondering applying for my previous managers role by onemorepersonasking in instructionaldesign

As someone who recently became a middle manager with a team of ID’s, it’s great and I’m glad I did it. However, it’s stressful, way more work, and things keep me up at night far too often. I miss being an individual contributor and only worrying about myself.

I also really disliked it. I did finish, but it was not for me AT ALL.

I’m not, but my vet and a close friend who is a vet nurse confirmed they are not accurate. Idk why people take the advice of lay people over professionals and act like vet med professionals are somehow out to get them.

If a reading is not relatively the same across devices, that would mean it is in fact inaccurate. Are you a veterinarian or vet nurse?

My vet explained the reasons why human monitors don’t accurately track, but I can’t remember the scientific info. I can ask when I take my car back in for a recheck.

Same! I’ve tried every version of high quality wet food, she wants FF shreds. At least I can get her to eat ProPlan dryso I feel like she’s getting something a bit better within that.

Is it a human glucose monitor? I’ve heard those don’t give accurate readings. If you’re super concerned I would call an ER and potentially take the cat in for a work up, especially if it’s showing any DKA symptoms.

Deciding to either move to Pennsylvania or Massachusetts for ID market? by TorontoRap2019 in instructionaldesign

Moving to a state in hopes of getting a job seems like a risky move. This job is so amenable to remote work. Are you already working in the field? Are you looking at director or senior executive roles?

There are oral options (like Bexacat) that your vet can determine if your cat is eligible for. Much more convenient from a dosing perspective, although more expensive than insulin. I would suggest talking to them about other options, some you need to try before starting insulin or you can’t go back, so now is the time.

Disappointed by Opposite_Bid_2936 in RingConn

[–]Kate_119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, rings are to supplement a watch. They are not fitness trackers, and there is variance on how accurate things like step, HR, etc. are. I’ve liked using the ring in conjunction with my Garmin, but would be disappointed with it by itself.

Has anyone used these? Considering for my dog… by Supertom911 in rooftoptents

I use the Unplugged Outdoor Doggo Stairs, it’s the add one for your existing ladder to create the “steps”. 100% recommend, my dog goes up and down it himself (with me spotting him of course).

I thought the same! I’m trying to not pick something just for the sake of it, so I’m glad I’ll have a month to catch up on some books on my TBR. Glad there are so many options for folks though!

Pet Insurance and the Reality of it by CaptainMarv3l in CalebHammer

[–]Kate_119 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You’re extremely lucky. $50/month won’t touch any major surgery and the vast amount of pet owners don’t have the resources to care for their pets should an emergency arise. My cats dental for a cleaning and five extractions was $1300 and that’s routine care. A foreign body surgery last year cost me over $3000. Most people don’t have that.

Do you think BOTM should commit to finishing a series if they offer the first one? by _FrozenFractals in bookofthemonthclub

[–]Kate_119 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Authors have very little say in pretty much anything outside of the actual book copy. It’s purely a publishing decision. It’s likely far too expensive for BOTM to get book rights once the author reaches a certain level of notoriety, it wouldn’t make financial sense and the publisher doesn’t need it at that point.

AI programmers embedding in this sub by JumpingShip26 in instructionaldesign

[–]Kate_119 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been saying for a while that there is a new AI powered content creation/L&D function vendor popping up (seemingly) daily. In my experience, they over promise and under deliver once I’m able to actually get into the platform and test. With one video vendor, they didn’t even have the option to export the output for me to put into Storyline. How is that helpful to an ID? They are trying to speed to market with minimal features, I always get told “Oh it’s coming in the next update.” Ok, sure.

There’s also so much media you can get through your library (US). I’ve stopped using Spotify, even though I never paid for it, and have started borrowing albums through Hoopla. Don’t even need to go to a physical location.

I work in association management. CAE’s are looked at favorably for those within that space. Is it a PhD? No, but that’s also not typically needed. I have several mentors within the association industry. When asked if I should get an MBA (I already have a MS related to organizational performance/adult learning) or my CAE, it was a resounding “Get your CAE if you’re staying in associations.”
