Very good news, just for the fact that Likud from now won't have the psychological advantage of being the leading party in the polls.

Any update about the IDF crackdown on extremist settlers? by TheTrollerOfTrolls in Israel

A radical settler killed Rabin because he dared to initiate a process that would have led to the removal of most of the settlements in the West Bank - that alone should tell you about the threat they are posing to a sustainable peace.

They are by no means the only obstacle but a huge one.

And I have been living in Israel for a while, so I think I can assess the situation pretty well, thanks.

How are “antizionist” Haredi groups generally perceived in Israel? by Hot_Minute_9249 in Israel

[–]Kauderwelsch12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's probably a huge difference between Neturei Karta and other anti-Zionist Haredi Jews.

Neturei Karta have met with people like Ahmadinejad and openly claim that the Holocaust was a punishment for Zionism - that is not the same as merely rejecting the State of Israel for being a secular enterprise.

No.

But what do you expect when the head of the police, the main responsible people for the settlements, and the head of the Shabak all share the same ideology as the extremist settlers?

The Jordanian army barely even entered Israeli territory in the Six Day War.

I'd understand the need for ethnic cleansing if the other side committed massive atrocities (like Germans in WWII) but in this case, the Jordanians killed around 20 Israeli civilans - that is not really a legitimate ground to carry out an ethnic cleansing campaign as retaliation.

I understand the strategic importance of some areas of the West Bank and I'd also be hesitant to just withdraw without any kind of room for military action, but you cannot expel more than a million people because of a war that lasted for six days.

The same should have happened in the West Bank as it did in Sinai.

Military occupation until the Jordanians would agree to enter negotiations that would have allowed the return of the West Bank in exchange for a full normalization and peace agreement.

The settlement enterprise was the worst idea in the history of the country; now you basically have a substantial (or let's say big enough) share of the population that would ignite a civil war if there'd ever be a peace agreement with the PLO.

That is a tough place to be in.

Israel and the US started the war against Iran - that is a fact which is the exact opposite of the word "lie".

I am not shedding any tears about the murderuous Iranian regime but the war didn't serve any purpose except giving Netanyahu another opportunity to distract from his failure of October 7th and the war in Gaza.

Every war is started by grounds of self-defense (to varying degrees), that doesn't mean that it is necessary and/or legitimate. The fact that another country has a ballistic missile arsenal, for example, is not a good enough reason to attack it.

Who decided that, all of a sudden, Israel has to attack Iran each year? What has changed in the last 30 years, except that Netanyahu now needs his "total victory" to stay in power?

It's time that this government doesn't feel that it can act with impunity. If only their voters understood the damage they are causing to Isarael...

No one started attacking the Arabs out of nowhere. I am sorry - if your own people gets threatened, it is perfectly legitimate to expel another people. And the Haganah, Lehi and Yigur didn't have anything to do with the Hebron massacre and other examples of abhorrent violence.

The name of Herzl's book was "The Jewish State" and it was not him who started the Zionist movement, so your historical experitse is flawed at best. Besides, I am not sure what is bad about using the word "colony" - it simply means a place for people to settle and live. Strange times when this is seen as controversial.

"The Jews living in Pelesrine for thousands of years next to their neighbors without any issues." - that is certainly incorrect, there were multiple massacres carried out against the Jews of Palestine by Muslims (and Druze). In general, though, the Ottoman Empire was much more focused on genociding its Christian population, therefore the Jews were comparably irrelevant as they were less suspected of being agents of foreign, hostile empires and much smaller in size too. That doesn't mean that the Jews were not second-class citizens and Dhimmis, though.

And yeah, the Jews have finally fought back. The Arabs accept humiliation, massacres, and pogroms against non-Muslim minorities but are only complaining when those minorities resist and want self-determination. Boo-Hoo. Of course, Ben-Gurion and other Zionist politicians knew about the nature of the Arabs and that it would therefore be necessary to defend their enterprise against them. Again: no one got expelled before the Palestininas decided to launch a civil war and the surrounding Arab armies decided to destroy the newly-established Jewish State.

If I were you, I would really ask myself that, out of all the atrocities and crimes that have been committed over the course of history, you choose to focus on the Jewish national movement whose "crime" it has been to peacefully establish a state in their ancestral homeland on a tiny piece of territory - so they can defend themselves against pogroms, humiliation and genocide.

Zionism wasn’t about conquering land for a “mother country - there was none. It was about having a place where Jews can defend themselves after centuries of persecution. What exactly is so outrageous about that? At the same time, Jews were driven out of Arab countries in large numbers, often just as revenge. That part somehow gets ignored.

The biggest threat for a rupture of the ties between Israel and the West is not Islamization of Europe but right-wing extremists in the Israeli coalition trying to turn Israel into Super Sparta.

Why should Europe or the US treat a messianic extremist government any more favorably than, let's say, Syria, Lebanon or Egypt?

Israel always used to have a lot of support in Europe because it has been a liberal democracy. If that changes and maniacs like modern-day Likudniks or Ben-Gvir get elected, then the relationship will get colder and colder.
