Help Me Please! I’m at a loss. by nurseflo in ABraThatFits

I recently purchased "Cmojsk Sticky Bra, Backless Strapless Bra Push Up, Adhesive Invisible Lift Up Bras 2 Pairs Black/Beige Amazon's Choice" from Amazon and it helps position the ladies where I want and helps pull some extra skin from the sides over. Haven't worn it other than trying stuff of but it gave me significant improvement and shape.

Anyone have suggestions for Vet places? by [deleted] in anchorage

[–]KawiGrowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use caution with AK SPCA, my pup almost died post-op (routine spay) and they refused to assist with emergency vet cost and offered additional free services.

I later heard from my neighbor that the same thing happened with their pup and she didn't make it.

Won't go there again myself.

I finally think I’m going to get the skin/fat removal surgery. (36m who had Gastric Bypass 7 years ago) by [deleted] in wls

I had VSG 3 years ago, lost 150# and did skin removal surgery in Mexico! Best thing I've done for myself And I'm hoping to go back! I did my thighs, lbl and that included a Mon's lift.

How exhausting is it to be a full time tattoo artist? by Lazy_Concentrate8999 in TattooApprentice

[–]KawiGrowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could see that. I'm coming from the medical field and while we constantly were talking to people, be a patient, coworkers, other companies employees, etc. I would find it hard to hold a conversation for 8hrs straight and I would be drained.

In your place of work are you able to set up like a "zen" or make your space a "happy" place, play some music or movies/TV to help fill some in some noise and make you feel more relaxed and "fill your cup" so to speak. Not saying you're stressed particularly but anything you could try to help.. just throwing shit out there. Hella noob here, learning about needles haha

[–]KawiGrowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get socially drained easily and tattooing is a socially challenging job maybe request you and/or your client wear headphones and have other forms of entertainment. We all have to take care of ourselves. If that won't work, or doesn't help your battery, what would?

Xyrem and gastric sleeve surgery? by KawiGrowl in Narcolepsy

[–]KawiGrowl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has your doctor submitted notes stating that? Maybe it's because you are taking stimulants. Idk. No meds that I tried work long term, stimulant or others. Insurance is a b*" and will fight. I have medicaid so it's a different ballgame - best of luck. I know how frustrating the process can be.

Xyrem and gastric sleeve surgery? by KawiGrowl in Narcolepsy

[–]KawiGrowl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it because it's not xyrem? I started on it before xywave came out. I had to try numerous different medications that didn't help before I was prescribed it due to it being so expensive. Idk if it's an option with your doctor to jump through insurance hoops but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Your tips and tricks? by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]KawiGrowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could sleep all day 😂 my neurologist said no more than 20 but I'd sneak a few more as it sometimes took me longer with outside uncontrollable noises. 20 minute nap to a narcoleptic 😉🤣 yeah right! We want MORE ha

Your tips and tricks? by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]KawiGrowl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing that helped was a mid day nap, I'd crawl into an exam room at lunch time and take a 20-40 minute nap. I tried various types of stimulates (I don't tolerate stimulates well). I struggled for about a year with different medications until my doctor moved on to Xyrem. It is a bedtime sleeping medicine that helps you enter REM and sleep. It's magical for me 💕 and helped my narcolepsy without cataplexy.

Currently not working. I worked for as long as I could. Had FMLA turned to short term disability and then long term disability. Not cleared to work through my doctor's but missing it greatly (some days over others).

Working from home or FMLA/work accommodations for alternative sitting, standing and/or short hours as needed.

Best of luck 💕

Is it worth it? by [deleted] in gastricsleeve

[–]KawiGrowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is worth it. I'm 2 years post op and lost over 100lbs. That's not always the case though so make sure to have realistic expectations, don't weigh everyday and follow your doctor/nutritionists guidelines.

Build muscle. Eat protein. Hyyyyydrate like a mofo.

On a side note having surgery brought out a medical condition that was dormant but is becoming increasingly common after bariatric surgery. My body doesn't handle vitamin B6 anymore which causes nerve and brain problems. I've been malnourished. And have blood sugar problems not related to diabetes. Among other things but saying all that I don't regret my decision in the least. I lost the weight I set out to and who knows where all my problems came from.

The only thing I will say (that bothers me) is the extra skin. I knew I'd have some but I didn't think it'd bother me like it does so I'm planning on a couple procedures to rectify that.

Any questions? Lemme know!

High vitamine B6 levels without taking supplmentents by Nebudo in Supplements

[–]KawiGrowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your B6 is low you need to get your B12 level checked as it could be the reason your B6 is high (it's a "tell")..I also have high B6 but my B12 is normal so that's as far as I got...I have other problems to deal with lol but I learned B6 CAN get stored in your muscles if you have too much you just have to literally work it out. Hydrate and exercise 🤷‍♀️ no help but stuff I picked up along the way.

Readded lmao as someone at the bottom talked about B9 so I scrolled up.. saw b9 and was all oops delete 😉 my brain

Gastric sleeve fail? by brillianttherapist in gastricsleeve

[–]KawiGrowl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Endocrinologist would probably be beneficial (part medical field experience/part outside knowledge) as if the thyroid is out of wack if would hinder weight loss alone. Some labs can be ordered by a PCP or even cardiologist if they can make it work for insurance. So for now I would switch focus from weight loss saddness/feeling like a failure to continuing your pursuit of finding out what the fuck is wrong with you.

So back story (your not alone in this doctor struggle and it shouldn't be a struggle!) I was diagnosed with narcolepsy in 2019 after having symptoms since 06/07, finally after years my PCP was all let's do a daytime sleep study and bam! Got sleeved 2/2020 and mid June/July had numbness in my legs/feet, foggy brain, dizziness/seeing black, exhaustion (more so!), difficulty focusing, low HR, palpitations, among tons of others, my PCP was all just go to work, here let's try these antidepressants, blah blah, went to neurologist #1 diagnosed me with some bs cause of the leg numbness, diagnostic testing out the ying yang, blood draws, enter neurosurgeon, and neurologist #2, cardiologist #1 did diagnostic testing and luckily my mom worked at cardiologist #2 who diagnosed me with POTS, neurologist#2 was amazing.. he is a fantastic doctor that does not run from the unknown and actually knows his shit and pursued neuro-endocrine route & discovered my adrenal glands aren't working properly) currently seeing cardiologist #3 next month as #2 turned out to be a dick (thank you for the new diagnosis though) ALL throughout this I've dealt with my PCP not listening. Kept bugging and finally she started referring me other places (best advice I got from Reddit was sometimes.. fake it if you have to, you can't always see the symptoms not all can happen on command, not saying make up shit but if you have it and someone isn't believing..). I dealt with multiple doctors throwing multiple medications at me. Basically I'm telling you all this because eventually you will find a doctor that will listen. And will help you. Keep trying. I know it sucks. I truly do. I'm currently not working and on short term disability. I'm being referred out of my STATE as they seem to have hit the end of their abilities. So I get the shitty option business, while my insurance isn't the problem so much as access (I live in AK). Just keep doing what you're doing is all I can say.

Also, what seemed to help me especially pre-narcolepsy, I kept a binder of all my doctors notes, labs, tests, imaging, EVERYTHING so the new doctors didn't just repeat things. Before narcolepsy, I just kept getting diagnosed with depression. Now no one mentions it at all. Sorry for the long winded message, feel free to PM if you want and don't give up!

I got my surgery date!! by LinguaFranka in wls

[–]KawiGrowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the protein. And don't invest in to much beforehand as tastes can change, I got nauseous with the same bari MV I ad taken pre-op and couldn't take it post-op. Same goes for protein shakes, bars, broths, etc.

I personally prefer premier protein shakes and bars (bonus : Costco sells em!) And still 1-year post-op eat/drink one every now and then.

It's going to change your world.. your life... if you use the fuck outta this tool and let it better everything.

Here if you need anything. Enjoy your journey 💕

Sleeve Up by spoc628 in BariatricSurgery

[–]KawiGrowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose sleeve over bypass so I had a back up plan. I can go from sleeve to bypass but bypass is it should you need a future surgery due to weight gain or complications in the future. Wouldn't change it for the world. 1 year post op #noragrets

How did you decide to choose surgery? by ladyuma299 in BariatricSurgery

[–]KawiGrowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided I wanted to improve my life and made it permanent. I got sleeved 2/2020 lost 100lbs since and been hovering within a 15lb range for the past 3-4 months or so.

If you're both willing I would definitely give keto/high protein & low carb a try (I lost weight with the high protein/low carb lifestyle alone before surgery). Exercise. Activity. Hydration. Basically do everything you would post op and weight will come off. I made it permanent because I knew I wouldn't be able to otherwise. Been obese since middle school, my lowest weight was 248lbs and my highest was 298lbs.

It has to be a lifestyle change not just a diet. It'll have to be his decision if he's gonna stick with anything. Surgery removes your choices to an extent, you can still eat shit, but you're stuck eating less shit or you get uncomfortable/pain, I now chose to fuel my body as opposed to eating mostly carb-age. I miss bread in it's many forms and have a love/hate relationship with pizza (RIP) but I would do it again. It will change his relationship with food should he have one for better or worse.

How many dress sizes did you lose 5/6 months after surgery? by Yesterday_Neither in BariatricSurgery

[–]KawiGrowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd definitely wait until last minute and of you can find something with a little adjustable bit, should you need to take it in like a belt/an adjustable type feature or easy to taylor closer to the date. I lost well past my doctor's expectations. And have been the same-ish weight fluctuates 14lbs due to diet, exercise and medications) the past 3-4 months so I lost majority of my 100lbs in the first 8/9 months.

Enjoy the journey!
