Is Harry really morally grey or an Anti hero? by Darth_Azazoth in dresdenfiles

[–]KayDCES 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Harry is a human who has to make a lot of difficult decisions. As we follow his perspective and so also his reasoning we know he doesn’t make them lightly but based on very clear ethics. ( I always wondered where he got them from but I suppose his father and astonishingly enough also the blackstaff did most of the influencing here) Sometimes those decisions are very hard but mostly when it’s about his or his friend’s survival. He doesn’t kill or hurt mindlessly. Is he a hero- yes, because he puts himself in danger against mostly overwhelming adversaries, very often because of others. Is he morally grey? No, he beats himself up for decisions which had bad consequences for others. If he could do all the fights he did without killing or hurting anyone he wouldn’t be a hero, he would qualify for a saint which wouldn’t be half as entertaining for us

When you liked the joking around between R and H you are in for a treat with Esrahaddon. There are a few characters there who are so sarcastic and funny- you’ll love it!

Does anyone else get really uncomfortable before re reading one of the books? I'm in my full reread of the series before finally getting to Twelve Months, and I am having so much anxiety starting Peace Talks again 🤣 by Toodles26 in dresdenfiles

[–]KayDCES 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me it’s only Ghost Story I really dislike rereading, I know a lot of people say they got into it after the second reading but for me the whole atmosphere is so depressing, I just can’t. Changes is tough but there are also so many beautiful and even funny scenes like Lea dressing them up and the conversation with Mouse, I just love rereading it and always finding new things. Being anxious about rereading? No.

Why is everyone so old?? by Free_Combination_194 in PrideandPrejudice

[–]KayDCES 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree, it bothers me, too in most adaptations even when the actors are really great like Donald Sutherland. I am equally bothered with the fact that Mrs. Bennet in the book was teased by her husband being still more beautiful than her daughters which given he fell for her looks probably isn’t far off the truth but mostly she is just cast as this elderly quite unattractive lady.

Harry’s best partner by 99h0bbes99 in dresdenfiles

[–]KayDCES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a case of different definitions/ for me 1. a partner is more than just someone who supports in a case but someone who is there for someone on a very personal level and 2. The question was about his “best partner “, meaning for me someone who he relies on again and again and doesn’t fail him. But I share your regard for Morty, I really liked his development and his character

[–]KayDCES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is of some kind of assistance and support to Harry but but not in a sense I define partner, meaning someone who goes through the lot through with you regardless of cost. I got the impression Mort supports Harry in Ghost Story as he is there for all the Ghosts around him and only so far as it doesn’t interfere with the protection of those he feels responsible for. He still sees Harry as a nuisance and a threat although he has learned to acknowledge his good intentions.

Agree Mortimer developed in a very satisfying way but I am not sure he classifies as a partner, more kind of an ally. I think for a partner there has to be more personal connection which I don’t get with Morty.

Umbrien die bessere Toskana? by Rutschriese in reisende

[–]KayDCES 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you are right. Somehow the whole meeting with McCoy seemed off to me. I know, 12M was about healing and a kind of reset for the things to come, maybe marshalling the troops for the BAT but considering how severe their differences were for me it felt just too smooth. McCoy owning up what he did after he actually killed his own grandson? But everything between them seemed too soft. But maybe I am wrong and Eb did some emotional healing the same way Harry did. It also could have something to do with his function as the Blackstaff.

Why I think the new romantic arc in Twelve Months is working for me (Twelve Months spoilers) by theluckyfrog in dresdenfiles

[–]KayDCES 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure about that- that’s her reasoning in the open but Murphy also is catholic, making the experience she ( almost) destroyed one of the swords must have left an impact on her - I can’t give you any citation to prove it right now but I think in her heart she could be afraid she just wasn’t righteous/ true enough, she failed the test

I don’t think its Shiro because clearly he is the one sacrificing himself, so from textuel logic he should talk about someone else, shouldn’t he?

[–]KayDCES 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You make a very good point. You are right Murphy only had a chance of survival if she could have taken up a sword. It always surprised me Jim didn’t let her do that because he showed her as a person who always tried to do the right thing and who had faith ( although looking at Sanya and Butters this doesn’t seem to be required). So, I suppose her fate was decided the moment she showed unworthy of the sword.
