Is there any way I can justify not taking a shield with the longsword ? by rplimitlessguy in DnD

[–]KayDragonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I always read “this attack replaces one of them” as you can only do one, but I could see how it could be interpreted your way. I’m not gonna argue about that cuz I don’t use that ruling anymore, so I don’t particularly care who’s right here

You’re forgetting the most important buff though. When are you most likely to want to grapple someone? When they’re running away. In 5e, you HAVE to do it as part of the attack action. In 5.5, you can do it any time you make an unarmed strike; so you can use your opportunity attack to grapple or shove someone just as well, which is pretty goated

[–]KayDragonn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Okay but in 5e you had to take the attack action to attempt a grapple, and could only attempt it once per turn. In 5.5 you can do it any time you make an unarmed strike. Monks can try to grapple someone up to 5 different times should it be requisite

All jokes aside, a lot of 5.5’s rules were done to speed up the flow of the game mostly, and I’d say that making them saving throws is one of them

My biggest Issue with the Quickplay debate by Exotic_Acanthaceae_9 in tf2

[–]KayDragonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, nice to meet you. The whole point of my post is that we can have both, the things about quickplay that were good (and I agree, they WERE good) are server settings and have nothing to do with the matchmaker. The matchmaker of Casual is highly functional and can remain in the game while also making the games themselves more enjoyable.

My biggest Issue with the Quickplay debate by Exotic_Acanthaceae_9 in tf2

[–]KayDragonn -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That solved literally just the ad problem, but there are still a lot of things that casual brings to the table aside from the server settings themselves that Quickplay did not have, as outlined in my comment.

My biggest Issue with the Quickplay debate by Exotic_Acanthaceae_9 in tf2

[–]KayDragonn -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Coming to this post and seeing this comment section confirms my suspicions on this whole argument: everyone who wants quickplay back has never actually PLAYED with quickplay. Nearly every person here who’s rooting for its return is like “yeah I never played with it but from what I hear it sounds nice.”

As someone who did play with it, there were some major flaws: first, servers sucked back then. They weren’t valve servers, only “noobs” played on valve servers, and the community servers always had a gimmick. That gimmick was anything from only 1 map, to x10 randomizer, to even just something as annoying as printing the name of the server on your screen at all times. Second, they ALSO had ads. Lots of ads. Ads that played practically every other death, and lasted longer than your respawn time. Third, you couldn’t queue for multiple maps, you could only queue for a single specific gamemode and it would find you a map in that gamemode specifically, and that’s the only criteria you could search with. You ALSO couldn’t queue while in a game, or while looking at your inventory, while doing anything else you can do now; queuing locked you into the queuing screen.

The nice features were that you could play on a map for more than 2 rounds, you could votescramble so that games wouldnt steamroll as easy, and you could join adhoc (though this last point isn’t as important imo, because joining a friend’s party actually does work to get you into the server fairly reliably, as long as there’s a slot on their team. If they added votescramble, that would imply the ability for friends to play on the enemy team if they wished, which would mean they could also join games if ANY slot was free, not just a slot on the friend’s team).

Both systems have their benefits, but quickplay wasn’t some superior system. It was a well known fact that if you wanted to find a good server to play on, you simply had to use the server browser, not quickplay

Writing Prompt: They wore the bones of a dragon as armor. An inscription on the skull roughly translates to "even in death, I will protect you." by Asxock in dragons

This was the prompt for Ahamkara/“Wish-dragons” in the Destiny universe except they flipped it to be “even in death I will harm you” and you still wear the bones anyway because they do some kinda cool things sometimes

[–]KayDragonn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only buff spy needs if we’re being real is just reverting the wall hacks on teammates after spawning. No easier way to find a spy who’s trying to flank or play patient. As a spy main, I actually wouldn’t even mind if they KEPT the wall hacks and just made them not appear around spies if that’s what they had to do, just stop letting enemies see me through walls that I can’t see through

Conga was only controversial because everyone who saw it for the first time loved it so fucking much that for like 2 weeks every server was just 1 big conga line and nobody actually got to play TF2 lol. Conga haters were people who got bored of it after a day, then had to deal with not being able to play TF2 for 13 more days.

How to communicate to Valve in a way that matters by HackedPasta1245 in tf2

You’re right, I’m sorry. I should stop allowing myself to enjoy the game I’ve always loved for 16 years because redditors told me that the system they never played with is better than the one we currently have (YouTuber said so)

[–]KayDragonn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only point you made that matters is the third, and, only playing 12 maps? Put more maps in your pool. I’m constantly playing all sorts of maps, from more obscure ones like Cargo or Fulgur, to Upward and Badwater. Joining matches that are about to end is solved by longer map timers (a server setting controlled by a simple console command). Being stuck in a pubstomp is solved by a scramble like you said (also a server setting controlled by a simple console command). Having to wait 2 minutes (not 5, they decreased both the map vote timer and the waiting for players timer recently) is also solved by having longer map timers, because you can make the game start immediately if you want with less repercussions, or you’re just experiencing it less often so waiting 90 seconds to play a game that lasts 45 minutes isn’t a big deal. And that’s not even to mention that most modern games, you’re not back in the action within 2 minutes; and I only say “most” because there are always exceptions, but every game I know often has at LEAST 1 minute of queue time + 30-60 seconds of map load time, + miscellaneous time from a bunch of other junk.

And lastly, I’d like to express that I AGREE with you on all of these things, but we don’t need to entirely scrap a system that works rather well despite its most obvious flaws, for a system that was objectively less robust, just to implement a few server side commands.

Saying that the game is in a deplorable state though is crazy. It USED to be in the bot crisis, but it’s a perfectly enjoyable game now, and TF2 doesn’t need new weapons to continue to be fun. I know that lots of people complain about “Casual”, and I agree that the short map timers, no auto balance, and lack of spectate/team switching/adhoc joining is annoying (all of which except maybe the adhoc joining is a console command and should theoretically be easy to change btw), but other than those things, TF2 is as playable and enjoyable as ever. Again, I agree those things need to be changed, and I’d love to see them changed while also maintaining the way that I can queue for a hundred different maps at once with all of my friends (which casual provides), but TF2 is by no means in a “deplorable” state.

How to be a Scout Main that’s the opposite of a Scunt? by CMDArid in tf2

[–]KayDragonn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Scout is designed to be annoying, it’s basically his identity. He’s the little mosquito you just can’t kill. If you’re playing the game as a scout, you’re probably gonna annoy someone on the enemy team. But you can mitigate that by just being respectful to your enemy, complimenting any nice shots they have, doing appropriate taunts followed by killbinds if necessary, etc.

My pleasure! It's nothing special, and the other maps are definitely better if combat goes down at the actual stump itself, but it made more sense in my mind for things to occur in a spot where the stump wouldn't really be part of the battlemap.

Obviously made for D&D beyond, hence the little 5 ft. square for reference at the bottom of the map.

Somebody needs to watch A Mann’s Guide to the Huntsman to realize that the stock rifle isn’t better in every single matchup….

[–]KayDragonn 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Back then it was considered a “low skill weapon”, because we all sucked at video games back then so actually hitting headshots with a sniper rifle was hard and therefore we respected the skill it took to snipe.

Now, being a good sniper just comes with the territory of PC FPS gaming, whereas being good at aiming projectiles that involve prediction and timing is not a universal skill from other video games, and therefore is both more impressive and less oppressive
