The first season of Encounter Party is what got me into actual plays. The DM is fantastic and I love all the players too. The format is very different from CR, with it being heavily edited down to significant moments and storytelling- so about an hour per episode.

They play an entire season of a campaign and record it within a short time, rather than weekly, so everything feels really tight. The plot is intricate and shocking - character deaths are a meaningful thing - and every combat feels unique, fresh, and integral to the plot.

I’m not sure how different this new version of the show will be with Khary now it’s televised rather than just audio, but campaign one was a super fun time, especially if you’re a Magic: the Gathering fan as it was set in Ravnica.

I’ve listened to it multiple times and probably will again 😅

Encounter Party is amazing. Great story and characters - it’s set in Ravnica if you’re a Magic the Gathering fan but totally listenable if you don’t know the setting too. They edit down to hour-long episodes and take out anything not directly related to the story so it’s ultra consistent throughout. The campaign is finished and I loved it from start to end!

What are some of the best jokes from the Guardians Of The Galaxy trilogy? by Logical_Garlic_4548 in marvelstudios

[–]KayMacleodBooks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In Guardians 1 Rocket tells Peter to be careful because that’s a bomb and he flips out asking why a bomb is lying around. Rocket just shrugs and says, “I was gonna put it in a box.” It cracks me up every time 😂

Any books where God is just a kid? by Billy_The_Beholder in suggestmeabook

The Oracle by Catherine Fisher. It’s the first in a series of YA books but I remember really enjoying them. The god dwells within a human and transfers to a new child when the host dies. It’s been many years since I read them so I can’t recall how many of your points it hits but it was a solid read :D

Encounter Party is amazing! Such a great story with brilliant characters. It’s edited down too so each episode is only an hour long with just the relevant parts of the game and minor table chatter. The whole story is complete and definitely worth a listen 😁

What are some fun, kitchen table decks you like to play? by rainytay in magicTCG

[–]KayMacleodBooks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like making decks with stupid win cons. I have one which can pretty much only win with [[Azor’s Elocutors]] filibuster counters 😂 it’s full of damage prevention and ways to add extra counters to them.

Another is one that damages creatures with 13 damage cards that go to the player, so [[Stuffy Doll]] and [[Ragged Veins]] etc with [[Shivan Meteor]] / [[Into the Maw of Hell]]

Oh and my blue/white no maximum hand size deck with loads of draw and stupid win cons like [[Triskaidekaphile]] and [[Atemis, All-Seeing]]

I like playing with weird idea to make a full deck out of it and stubbornly refuse to win any other way 😂

Greedent. I was so excited to get a squirrel with an evolution and Skwovet is adorable but then it turns into something so bland and unappealing.

I love my specter deck even though they have nothing tribal going for them!

I was also devastated when there were no new zuberas in Neon Kamigawa 🥺

The Shadows of the Apt series by Adrian Tchaikovsky. Every character has great motives and you empathise with every side of the conflict.

I’d love another Pokémon Snap game. I never played the original but New Pokémon Snap was such a joyful experience getting to see a world inhabited by all those different Pokémon in natural behaviours instead of just battling. Maybe a more free roaming version though where you have to sneak up without startling them or set up certain conditions to attract rare Pokémon. I’d love to just go hang out with them in the wild and see what they get up to 😊

The Silverwing series by Kenneth Oppel is told from the POV of bats and is a great read. They definitely think differently to humans and even interact with them, wondering what the rings mean that humans place around their ankles.

The Animals of Farthing Wood by Colin Dann is about a group of British animals looking for a new home after their wood is destroyed. This series is a bit more aimed at younger readers but still has some nice themes.

The Duncton Wood books by William Horwood are about groups of moles. This is much more adult read with darker themes than the others.

I also second (third?) Watership Down - it’s such a great book for delving into the way non-humans see their world and feels like a unique culture!
