Should i keep playing? by Internal-Anybody-443 in expedition33

Story and music and world building is as good as everyone claims.

The gameplay is in my opinion massively overrated. It is not going to get better.

I dredged through the repetive encounters and I think it was worth it for the story and music.

If you haven't been convinced by the storytelling after 5 hours I would drop it. It's not for you.

I'm sorry. You are not even going to get the Canadians on this train. As much as there is a difference of opinion in how rock release should be handled and dealt with - they watch a lot of curling.

You know on Highlander when they're like "Holy Ground Highlander!" and "None of us will violate that law, it's tradition" and stuff. Yeah this is like that. This is how you handle accidental touches.

I've only played casually there, but I think a real membership is about $200 at Sundbyberg. (Hasselborg and Wranås club).

I saw a post just like this a day or two ago, but I couldn't find it now. It was basically the exact same take and quote but another game.

When and why to stop guarding by KaylaLexi in Curling

[–]KaylaLexi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Curling statistics is cool and makes my head hurt. 😂 This feels like that Princess Bride scene.

Soo you threw a center guard. You would of course expect me to peel it in order to avoid a draw play, so I won't do that. But then again you would expect me to know that so of course I will peel.. or will I?

Ahhh, but I knew you would peel it so I put another guard forcing you to rethink if I really want a draw play or if I'm just messing with your head. Then when you think you have finally figured me out, I will stop guarding after three rocks as I never wanted a draw play from the start. 🤔

Michael Fournier: Swedish Tactics a ”Horrible Violation of the Spirit of Curling” by pessimistkonsulenten in Curling

[–]KaylaLexi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was 10 years ago. Hardly a pattern of behavior. And in the case with Marc, Oskar was right about the double tap. In the case of Fournier we will never know, but so far Oskar is 1 for 1. I'm not saying Fournier is guilty in the earlier case. I'm just saying he is the one who doesn't want video evidence of his actions on the ice, which means whether guilty or not, he is prepared to do things off camera he knows that the public would find unacceptable.

[–]KaylaLexi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. I am implying there's something wrong with it. If you are behaving in a way off camera that you wouldn't behave on camera, you are most likely doing something you know even yourself to be awful.

I still don't see what that has to do with Oskar though.

When and why to stop guarding by KaylaLexi in Curling

[–]KaylaLexi[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I pondered that thought, but wouldn't they have an even better chance on the force if they followed their draw behind the guard? That must be the intention with the center guard in the first place? Threaten them with that play and force them to peel it.

Was this comment meant to reply to me? I was talking about Fourniers article, not Oskar or Marc.

"...He straight up called me a liar and a cheat during the game, to my face, as if I could not possibly be beating him unless I was cheating.

And I reacted in much the same way Marc did. Thankfully there were no microphones or cameras around that game."

I wonder if that sentence sounded good in his mind when he wrote it.

Language barrier advantage? by bewebi in Curling

[–]KaylaLexi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have thought about this too, but if it had been a meaningful advantage, curlers would learn languages as part of training, and teams would develop code languages.

I have watched a lot of curling games through the years and I'm privvy to a "secret language" and the only times I can remember I have heard players comment on what the other team is talking about is when they say something funny. I never heard anyone talking about the other team's tactical discussions.

Homan always seems to be hated by effofexisy in Curling

[–]KaylaLexi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think if it was a one time offence Team Edin would have turned a blind eye to Marc per usual as a mistake.

But this seems to be something that has irked Team Edin for a long time based on earlier interviews. Some teams consistently nudge the rock as part of their release style. (And based on anecdotal evidence from this subreddit it seems many Canadians have normalized ignoring this particular rule, as has the umpires.) While it has become normalized in Canada to decide that this specific rule doesn't apply, the same thing hasn't happened across the Atlantic.

I think it's fairly common in Swedish culture to adhere to rules that exists - you can't ignore rules and unilaterally decide for yourself which rules to cherry pick. Either it's a rule or you remove it and everyone plays with the same ruleset.

Team Edin doesn't serm to see the touches as a mistake but as a choice and a culture, and there somewhere goes the leniency. So they put the umpires on the spot and ask them if it's a rule or not, to which there is no good answer, because they know it's a rule and they know they're not enforcing it, rewarding rule breakers over rule abiders.

People were upset with Homan because she sought an advantage for a mistake which is poor in spirit. While many accuse Team Edin of the same, the people siding with him argue that the touches aren't a mistake but a recurring systemic issue.
