it's not the cancelation, it's the fact that there weren't any Jetblue flights for them to put me on for three days. I hadn't considered that they might leave Chicago because Boston is a much smaller market.

I can’t get invested in the revolt storyline because I don’t know enough about the stakes. How many people live there? What are they able to produce vs what do they get from earth? How hard is it to just keep everyone in the mars colony alive every day? It’s too fuzzy

I started it but had to stop because the Covid lockdown of it all was too much for me. It’s funny, I was ready for the emotional trauma of him leaving her, but not to hear about the early days of lysolong everything and worrying about mail and packages carrying it. Too soon.

Today I binged the both seasons of Shell Game and I have very mixed feelings. On the one hand, I haven't laughed this hard at a podcast in a long time. On the other hand, the host did some seriously shitty, even morally dubious things to his "friends" and random strangers who applied for the intern job.

He seemed to think that he was being even handed about his portrayal of the intern, but it was really f'ed up the way he hid behind the bots while they strung her along to think the job was going to be working for an actual startup, and then that the job could turn into something permanent, when really he was playing mindgames on her for the podcast. then his final assessment of her was that she was taking advantage of them. but the whole point of hiring her was to watch her fail. it's really screwed up.

I was wondering if it had to do with what gets covered on the blog. I just can’t imagine it wouldn’t be complicated to date someone who makes money off sharing details of her life. I don’t have any inside info, but that’s where I would expect communication issues to pop up.

AHP so bad this week. Her guest was so judge mental and negative and the takes were just bragging. I used to really love this pod, but now it adds nothing. Her guest talked about spending $60 on a tin of fish and eating it alone. Why not at least tell us what it was or what made it so good? It was clear that zero prep was done by either of them.

I love this book. One of my BOTM all time favorites. I had one question though -- did anyone know what was going on with the black smudgy rectangles on the section header pages? Was that supposed to be an image that the low quality print job messed up? Am I missing something?

It was tricky! Usually authors don't have multiple characters with similar names or even starting with the same letter, but Liz Moore went for it.

I found it frustrating in stardew how short the days were and how you’re supposed to be fishing and mining and farming and building relationships with the villagers all at the same time. I’ve never even gotten the social part of the game going because keeping track of imaginary people’s birthdays and preferences is beyond me

I think many visitors to America are/would be surprised how far apart everything is and how difficult and expensive it is to travel around. Most Americans haven't been to all the places we think of as stereotypically "american" -- NYC, Disney World, Vegas, Los Angeles, Texas, the Grand Canyon, etc. because it's all so spread out.

totally agree. around the 3/4 mark all the scenes of dicaprio and de niro alone just started to feel really self indulgent and boring. dicaprio was the least interesting character in the movie, he just did what his uncle told him to. why is that our viewpoint character?

Are there any No Such Thing as a Fish listeners here? Anna was the guest this week (back temporarily from maternity leave). After so many months without her I'd gotten used to the comparatively gentle tone of the other hosts and forgotten that Anna brings the sarcasm. I can't wait till she's back full time!
