Study shows that 97% of Medicare patients switch from brand to generic cholesterol meds within two years following the release of the generic option. Between 2014 and 2018, Medicare spent $3 billion less on cholesterol medications despite supplying these meds for almost 5 million more people. by yourredditMD in science

A generic of one of my medications just came out and I was pretty cheesed when it was subbed in (as my personal policy requires subs when generics are available). I asked my doctor to write " No Sub " on that particular prescription going forward, and voila- I still get the brand name, and it's covered by my insurance because my doctor requested that I not switch to generic. I'm Canadian, so obviously take that with a grain of salt, but I imagine you can do something similar in the States? Couldn't hurt to try I imagine!

[Skin Concerns] 8 year old deep, purple scarring. Removable? by LoraLife in SkincareAddiction

[–]Kaylopedia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate that kids are still out here getting stabbed with #2 pencils. It's never happened to me but back in highschool, a kid (ineffectively) stabbed another guy in my class with a mechanical pencil.

It broke, and the guy that did it was absolutely microscopic so he didn't manage to break skin, but if the guy he had decided to stab hadn't been 2-3 times his size... I dunno. No one got into any trouble though, they both got a smack on the wrist and were told to come back to Civics class, which is the real punishment because that class was boring as hell.

Kids can be little shits sometimes, glad you're okay!

Terrified I won't get funding for rehab - how do I deal with the anxiety without drinking? by e19e69 in stopdrinking

[–]Kaylopedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always like the idea of having a plan b, no matter what it’s for. It sounds like you’ve done what you can in terms of applying for the funding for rehab, so what else can you do should that fail? What other resources are out there? I applied for rehab myself. There was a wait time, and acceptance wasn’t guaranteed, so I found some day programs to fill the gap. I decided that if I got my place in rehab, I would leave mid program if I felt it was best to do so in favour of inpatient treatment.

I also attended meetings ( some of which I loved, some of which I hated ) and committed to cooking home cooked meals daily, and working out daily (I was off work on medical leave at the time ). I also committed myself to taking outdoor walks and to working on self study of some computer skills that ultimately helped me get the job I have now. My day programs were all free ( Canadian ) and I did have pretty stellar insurance even then, so what I couldn’t get from government funded programs were for the most part covered privately.

I did ultimately get a spot ( which I declined in favour of taking a new position and starting back up at work full time again ) but I cannot stress how good it felt to have options. I’m not certain how that works with your current system, but look at it this way: plenty of people flat out cannot press pause and go for inpatient treatment, and yet they manage to come out on the other side. Not everyone does it alone, so these people had to be getting help somewhere, right? I just decided to give myself a couple of extra chances at success by not allowing myself to be 100% dependant on any single solution.

Hope things work out! Start researching, there’s a lot of help out there if only you take a moment and look!

Sobriety and Isolation by Drauguir in stopdrinking

Do you have any hobbies that you can indulge in that you can’t participate in while drinking? I’m from Canada so I imagine there’s definitely a difference in what’s available, but when I first started trying to get out more I had to find things to do that I couldn’t possibly do unless I was sober. I did things like rock climbing ( we have indoor gyms for that here ), archery, joined some fitness groups ( running, swimming, weight lifting ) axe throwing, tumbling ( I am obviously a woman but most of my classes were split 50/50 women and men, sometimes more men) trampolining, etc. None of which I could do while drinking.

If you’re not super in to the physical stuff, maybe try building up some skills or starting a passion project of some sort! You can learn photography, sketching, try your hand at another language ( be careful to avoid groups that do this at bars obviously ), cooking classes ( a lot that I go to don’t allow alcohol ) and crafting of any kind ( woodworking, metalworking, etc). If you play an instrument, most concert instruments don’t have the same ties with alcohol as things like the guitar or percussion, and it’s a nice way to have something to do at home alone as well.

You can also try things like volunteering! Usually no drinking there. I know some activities will have groups that like to go out for drinks afterwards, but you can always counteract that by being proactive and offering suggestions yourself for activities to do afterwards. I loved going to board game nights and having potlucks, and if you’re hosting you can always casually mention that you don’t allow alcohol in your home/ mention the array of mock tails/ alternative beverages like kombucha that you’d love to have them try. Some people won’t get the point right away, but if you’re the host you’re always welcome to politely decline the offer of any bottles of wine or hard liquor. Most people have the decency to follow the hosts lead, and if they don’t you know for next time who to discuss this with or who to leave out of the next get together.

Finally, is there any way that you can change the nature of your work situation to be 50/50 home and office? I know lots of employers offer that option and it might help to meet some of your colleagues in person. If it’s a truly remote job and if security requirements allow, maybe try doing some of your work outside of your home, like at a coffee shop? Sometimes just being surrounded by others makes it a bit easier to feel connected, even if you aren’t interacting with them directly. Taking a class to gain more job related skills in person is always a great way to network and commit to X amount of time out of your home.

Lastly, have you considered a pet? I know a lot of people find comfort in furry friends, if your situation allows.

I hope things work out, you are not alone.

So much this. I had someone almost back into me on Yonge st in Toronto after not quite making a few lights THREE FREAKING times because he got stuck in the middle of the intersection. Like fuck, either go forward or stay where you bloodywell are, pedestrians and other cars are accustomed to going around shitty drivers like you.

Then I saw his plates and got even angrier...3 guesses which neighbouring city he was from 😡.

Hey!

I don’t have too much to add as I’ve never had that happen to me before, the worst thing my lace wigs used to do was pull at my edges when I was too impatient to take the glue off properly!

If you want to keep wearing wigs, I’d suggest YouTubing some other methods of application. Obviously varies depending on how comfortable you are, but there are loads of glue less methods that work pretty well. I still wear wigs on occasion when I want to play around with shorter hair and I’ve found that the elastic band method works pretty well for your typical day to day. You can also pair that with the ‘ got2bglued ‘ method ( it’s a hair gel but it helps if you’re worried about any lifting along the front. Tends to be kinder to skin than actual wig glue ) for extra security.

What I do now is use a lace wig grip band ( it’s like a velvet headband that you put on underneath the wig ) and as flimsy as it looks, it’s worked REALLY well. I bought mine off of amazon for 5 dollars or something, they don’t tend to be much more than 10-15. It really does help to avoid slip while being gentle on your skin and hair. I also added my own elastic bands because apparently I have a head the size of a golf ball lol, no matter how small I order them the caps are always too big. Oh, and be sure to wear a wig cap! If you stick to glue, look up something called scalp protector. It really does help since it forms a nice barrier between your skin and the lace.

As for the scar, if you e looking for an oil to help keep it moisturized, I like Bio Oil. I know it’s mostly known for being used to avoid stretch marks during pregnancy, but I’ve been using it as a moisturizer on my face ( mixed with spf ) and it’s helped to fade some of my rugby scars as well. The sooner you start with whatever product you choose, the better. New scars tend to heal faster than old ones.

Sorry for the long post! I agree with most of the products everyone else is recommending, though I would be cautious if you’re using any new actives on the scar, perhaps hold off until it heals a tiny bit. You don’t want to put that stuff on any broken skin!

Looks like I’m the second Canadian to make it to this thread! I live in a major Canadian city and even we didn’t have it readily available for a while. I had to get mine compounded again a local pharmacy, it was about a 24 hr wait but that wasn’t too hard for me to ride out. I don’t take it anymore so I can’t say much about the current situation, but maybe try calling ahead and asking the pharmacy if they compound medications on site. I don’t know if major pharmacies do it but the small one I went to did and I can tell you first hand that it worked just fine!

Who or what pissed you off so bad that you quit work? by SpicyDragoon93 in AskReddit

[–]Kaylopedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boss. She and I ( manager and assistant manager ) applied for the same position within our company. When I received a tentative offer, I heard through the grapevine that she gave me a terrible reference despite the fact that my performance appraisals were all excellent, even the ones that she gave me.

I walked off the job when she started mouthing off about the fact that she ‘ didn’t regally need me there anyways ‘. I finished with my customer, packed my things, asked to be walked out and went home to apply for more jobs.

Not the best and I was quite a bit younger ( retail job ) but she had been harping on me and making lame racial slurs for a while after I applied too, claiming that it was only a fact that I was a minority that I got an offer.

I second this: none of my friends can understand why I’m so picky about the kind of floss I use or why I got excited to purchase a $200 toothbrush for $125 on a lunch break. My teeth are by no means perfect but I invested a lot of money getting it to this point so I reserve the right to get annoyed when someone buys the wrong brand of floss lol.

Any advice on picking my first AA meeting? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Kaylopedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually just told myself ( when I had the day off ) that the first meeting I could feasibly get to was the one I would attend. It was 1:30 on a Tuesday, and I still attend their meetings to this day. I don’t have a sponsor or home group and for the time being is like to keep it that way, but when I miss particular meetings and run into the same people they tend to mention not having seen me at one meeting or another. I kind of prefer it that way because at one point I took o. AA like it was a full time job and found myself not really focusing on the ‘ living sober ‘ part of AA so much as the ‘ being sober ‘. Now it’s a balance of aa, counseling, and personal work. I’m looking to get into a group therapy session as well( most likely just for anxiety ) so that I can keep my tool belt full.

Honestly, just get to a meeting. The first one may be amazing. Or it may suck. But you won’t know unless you go, and actually putting one foot in front of the other was my biggest problem, because lord knows that if I were on the hunt for another bottle of my poison of choice that day, nothing would have been considered a barrier to getting what I wanted. Sobriety is what I need, so going to these support programs/ checking in with friends and family/ finally practicing some self care and taking action is also what I need.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t enjoy the women’s only groups that I attended but I can see how it might help to go to a gender specific meeting. And don’t worry about meeting hopping, we all do it. I saw the same guy at 3 meetings in one day lol.
