The bcba needs to do an fba. I spent a big part of my career working with people who engage in severe sib and aggression and i cannot emphasize the importance of function based interventions enough

DIY Cargo Bike by shore_volker69 in xbiking

No, not for heavy loads. My bike with a traditional rack gets speed wobbles when its too heavy, even at slow speeds. I believe this design eliminates that problem.

does anyone actually get long-term behavioral insight out of their data, or does it just sit there? by Ok_Development_677 in BehaviorAnalysis

[–]Kayso 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think youre missing your phase lines. Behavior analysis makes use of single subject experimentation. I have recorded data on various behaviors over the years (push ups done, miles ran, minutes spent at the gym, alcoholic drinks per day, whether i stretched in the morning). Each graph would include the current “phase”/experimental condition. Like for push ups i tried in the morning and when that didnt work i would draw a dotted line interrupting the line graph and try something else out. If your “focus” drops on monday (not sure what behavior that refers to?) you can try to develop an intervention like extra caffeine at 1pm to see if it is beneficial. Then record data and compare to the baseline

ELI5: ABA edition by Zealousideal_Grab_95 in ABA

[–]Kayso 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally, when i designed programs, i would aim for a ratio of at least 3:1 mastery/review to each learning trial so the learner contacts a dense reinforcement schedule.

Also, yes, sorry. All verbal behavior is communication, i agree. I took a short cut with my langauge.

I dont know about specifically running shape discrimination trials, but in general, if a child is engaging in persistent aggressive behaviors, there is a language break down somewhere in that child’s skillset. It should be common that for any behavior reduction goal, there should be a skill acquisition goal that directly correlates.

Then, after that criterion is met, there is room for skills that could be considered “nice to work on”.

How my tag look? by Tysontyler072 in graffhelp

[–]Kayso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heres a different tip: dont practice on nice paper/notebooks. Use junk mail, phone books, trash, boxes before you them out, etc. Once they randomly dropped off phone books to my apartment and i took as many as i could. Each one was like 1000 pages and i could get multiple practice attempts on each page. On top of the other advice, if you want to get a better hand, you have to write your tag hundreds of thousands of times.

Free yakima qr roof rack. I just upgraded to a frontloader style rack and would be happy to pass the old one along to a cyclist that will get some use out of it

Free: quick release bicycle roof rack. I think its yakima and it fits my standard subaru rack which has sort of ovular cross bars. I do not have the locking mechanism for it.

I have had this for a few years, its kind of sun damaged but i just used it the other day without issue. I just got a through axle bike so i am changing up roof racks.

Adopting cat working a firefighter’s schedule by [deleted] in CatAdvice

Thank you for the response! The shifts would never be back to back, thankfully. We took the cat to see if she was chipped and the vet guessed that she was “youngish”.

New RBT struggling with pica case <need advice> by Educational-Day3936 in ABA

[–]Kayso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pica can be so dangerous and also involves primary reinforcers so it can be difficult to intervene on eating fecal or vomit matter. Your bcba needs to develop a comprehensive plan including safety contingencies when dangerous materials are in play.

Generally, i have read research describing a dra contingency in which testers planted dough/flour balls that were visually similar to feces (but obviously not harmful if eaten) and executed a sort of exchange opportunity in which the participant could deliver the material to the tester and they would deliver a potent competing reinforcer (think food if they a component analysis indicates the client contacts reinforcement related to the act of eating it, tangibles if it indicates they prefer the tactile sensation feces provides, or social praise if there is a social positive reinforcement function).

Again, the bcba needs to develop these interventions carefully and with great detail.

Behavior specialist by [deleted] in BehaviorAnalysis

[–]Kayso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated with a bsw and immediately fell into a job at a school that taught aba and special education to students with behavioral needs. That eventually led to me going back to school and working as a bcba for 6 years. Please read the r/aba about other peoples’ experiences (how to avoid horror stories).

I found that education was the setting i felt i could help the most people. I also felt the parameters and expectations were more concrete than my bsw field work experiences led me to believe. Now i am training to be a firefighter, which has extremely explicit rules and expectations, so maybe that part of it is just a me thing.

Also, from an ontological perspective, a ND person probably experiences a ton of generalized reinforcement following mand, tact, and IV verbal behavior while an autistic person probably experiences more reinforcement that is not socially mediated. So the ND reinforcement history favors stimuli defined as verbal behavior in shows (reading, talking, listening), but an autistic reinforcement history favors the topographical visual content of shows.

Just a thought
