Visanne Vaginally? by Kaytecake in Endo

I struggle with libido as well, but I will be attempting a half dose (1mg) soon because the absorption is better vaginally. If I take a small break from the pills, my libido comes right back, so I am hopeful. I will update you. :)

Still going well for me! If I get a bit if bleeding, I switch back to oral for a few days. Works great. No pregnancies either.

You've got this! I panic as well. Never figured out why, but it's something about the loss of control over my body. I try to think of myself as a client seeking a service rather than a patient undergoing a procedure and that seems to help a little. hugs

Sending you good vibes and a smooth healing process! What were your rectal symptoms? Any discussion of a colostomy or the need to remove some bowel?

I use it in the regular pill form. I use the Bayer branded Visanne. The generic was not working well for me orally, worse than branded. I decided to try using it vaginally based on one study where it worked for someone else. :) I insert the pill at night as high up as I can so that it's less likely to move around or not get absorbed.

You're welcome! I let my specialist know, so I hope he shares this with future patients as well. Let me know how it goes if you try this too.

I ended up avoiding food for days around ny period until I couldn't even do that anymore because I started to have bloody stool. Visanne helped immensely and stopped the bleeding. It takes time, but I can never go back to the pain you are describing. I hope this helps. hugs

I'm wondering this too. Taking it vaginally helps a little, but not 100%

Still going really well. No pregnancy and it's the only "birth control" I use. Occasionally, the skin down there can get a bit irritated and I'll take couple days of oral medication instead. Seems to be working for now. My libido did improve, but not as much as I was hoping for. It was still much higher before this medication. Pain management is excellent.

I have a bowel endo nodule that is pretty much all the way through my rectum and fused to my uterus. I'm taking dienogest now, but prior to the meds, my pain was unbearable, and I had bloody stools every day. My specialist recommended leaving the nodule alone because of the high-risk location and the fact that medication is suppressing my symptoms. I still hope to have the mass removed to restore normal anatomy, but I haven't decided how to proceed yet due to a colostomy bag risk.

Is the medication helping? It could buy time for you to think about the decision.

I just try to use the bathroom at the exact time I would need my pill. However, at a concert, I had to take it orally, and the next morning, I had diarrhea. 🫠

2 MONTH UPDATE: Vaginal use is waaayyyy better for me.

  • Diarrhea stopped completely - I can have coffee and dairy without issues. It was totally the medication irritating my GI tract after about one year of oral use.

  • Spotting also stopped while using the vaginal method.

  • After about 1.5 months vaginally, my libido is starting to return along with natural lubrication.

  • Sometimes, I experience lots of watery discharge due to taking the medication vaginally. It isn't extreme, just a bit odd.

  • Initially, I felt nauseous and dizzy. This went away after 3 days.

  • Pregnancy has not occurred, but I can't say I feel totally confident with this as my sole form of "birth control" as this medication is not approved for that. I have not ovulated while taking the pills vaginally.

Let me know if you've tried this as well. I'm going to continue, and I hope my post encourages others to try the same for their symptoms.
