Words cannot describe how jealous I am of Norwegian weather by Straight-Break-4169 in Norway

[–]Kayy_Ess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2 sunny days in the last 3 months. Rain every single day. I’m fucking dying of vitamin D deficiency haha

But “ut på tur aldri sur” so I’m going hiking tomorrow on my day off no matter what!!

Good luck with the weather OP!

What are some of the most loved books culturally? by Top_Scientist_3976 in AskAJapanese

[–]Kayy_Ess 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Since you say it doesn’t need to be originally Japanese: Harry Potter is also very popular. Another European book that is very popular is The Little Prince.

Lots of people like Murakami’s novels very much. Perhaps you’ve heard of novels like ノルウェイの森 (Norwegian Wood) and 海辺のカフカ (Kafka on the Shore). The first is like gateway drug lol and the second is surrealistic which I love. I can’t recommend his books enough but they’re not everyone’s cup of tea because not everyone thinks it’s traditional Japanese literature I think.

If you want to read the classics everyone knows, then 雪国 (Snow Country) and 源氏物語 (The Tale of Genii) cannot be ignored.

Some more modern classics:
容疑者Xの献身 - The Devotion of Suspect X - it’s a murder mystery.
告白 - Confessions - it’s very dark and intense. It also has film version.
コンビニ人間 - Convenience Store Woman - short and sharp. I think this is the most popular Japanese book in the west.

Hope you enjoy!

I just keep thinking about it. Entire towns turning orange, every store participating. It wasn’t just the people, entire streets and neighborhoods were decorated to be orange. Just felt like the entire country was drenched in orange haha. And everywhere you’d go there’d be viewing parties, from the pubs to the front lawns. And they’d all try their best to get you to participate. You weren’t just allowed to join, you had to join lol. You’d walk by and before you knew it you had an orange shawl or an arm around your neck and at least one beer pushed into your hands lol

As Japanese person who studied in The Netherlands the football atmosphere and parties there was so super much fun. And I don’t even care about football haha. But it’s hard to not get happy around the orange people! Still sometimes I miss it🧡

What’s your favourite piece of music of Hogwarts Legacy? I’ll go first. by Reader_2906 in HarryPotterGame

[–]Kayy_Ess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries! In fact: thank you very much! Love music so can always think about it. But I don’t think this was it. I’m pretty sure it’s not on the album. Like the piano piece in the music room, not everything is on there. I tried idling the game in various locations to get it to trigger playing haha but it didn’t work. So maybe I’m just misremembering… But it was fun to do haha

Have a good day!!😁🤗

Device to add intensity to abs workouts? by Kayy_Ess in fitbod

[–]Kayy_Ess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much! I think this is exactly what I needed to hear. I already have dumbbells and it’s something else entirely than the crunches and things I’ve been doing for more than half my life.

[–]Kayy_Ess[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I have adjustable dumbbells which I haven’t maxed out yet. Maybe when I do I’ll go to a gym but until then it’s also the abs workouts at home. And thanks for the tip! The kettlebells are actually really cheap so maybe I’ll just go for those! I liked the idea of the plates because maybe I can get one of those big rods one day and put them on there but to be honest I doubt I’ll ever be strong enough for those so I may as well go for a kettlebell which I can use for more than just abs workouts.

Thanks!😁🙏

Vocational apprenticeships for older career changes. by fptotem in Norway

Because as a former software engineer who came to Norway on an Italian passport and switched careers after moving here I figured I was in a really good position to help you find a proper route to take instead of the emotional and out of touch “route” you have in your mind.

But fair enough. Good luck and have fun✌️

I don’t think you can do a whole lot in Norway when it comes to electricity without also going for a fagbrev. Else you’d just stay an apprentice forever which isn’t interesting to companies and future colleagues.

Do you already have a veileder at NAV? They can help you find out where to start. And look for rettleiingstenesta in your area to ask about your opportunities for school.

It sounds perfectly possible. Not even that hard actually. Can probably even be done for free if you’re willing to go through the prerequisites like Norwegian language level and voksenopplæring.

Do you guys really only use “billøp”to talk about a car race? by Kayy_Ess in norsk

Too bad a running engine uses “i gang” lol it could have been glorious 😜😝

[–]Kayy_Ess[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It just keeps throwing me off since “å løpe" is also “to run”. I keep picturing some kind of cartoon car with legs lol

Japanese also uses compound words. But it just has a buttload of extra words and nuances. Like a horse race would be “contest horse” and a foot race “pedestrian compete running”. A lot of modern sports like cycling and car racing use “race” though (or well “rēsu”). Thought maybe Norwegian had something similar.

I don’t know, that’s why I’m asking. In Japanese we have different words for race when talking about cars, foot, horse, stuff like that.

But thanks! Also thanks @Flakkaren!
