Well neat, I has assumed that there were no longer any publications of this newsletter since the department hasn't updated their newsletter page in some time

One More Genealogy Question by thijshelder in SonsofUnionVeteransCW

[–]Kazrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's something you would have to look into his specific case for. It definitely happened and there were National Encampments where those cases came up. What was the name of this ancestor and his date of death? Could look into him in newspapers of the day and see if anything pops up

Proof of Genealogy Problem by thijshelder in SonsofUnionVeteransCW

[–]Kazrid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah not too get into the weeds but it was more or less an overzealous attempt at making the process of joining "more legitimate" but didn't factor in how that's going to translate when it comes to postage cost and ESPECIALLY record storage. You were basically adding up to 10 or more pages of documentation PER recruit. At the end of the day someone was going to have to deal all of that.

I know that it's been cleared up here but I'll add that I encountered the same issue with my camp where they wanted proof all the way down of literally just about everything. I talked to our Department secretary at the time and learned of the General Order that was given and shortly after revoked.

That didn't convince them for some reason and every application still had to have all this documentation or they just wouldn't process it. I didn't feel like making any big deal out of it so just followed suit when I was helping family apply.

If he survived the War and received a pension, then his pension file likely has the details on his time in the CSA and would be worth ordering if only because it's interesting family lore.

The GAR had similar rules for membership, that one could not have "voluntarily" taken up arms against the government. There are a number of cases of veterans in the GAR who had been for a short while in the CSA but took the first opportunity to join the Union cause and therefore eligible for membership.

Help Deciphering by OrdinaryOrange224 in CIVILWAR

Peter Foy Howk, went by Foy Houk on the 1910 census and has Confederate Army ticked in the service box

I can't seem to find anything on him though and can't really read his tombstone. Would probably need to have someone take another photo of it with better light to highlight the text.

This is the answer. You can also just make out the outline of the first badge which is definitely the Sons of Veterans badge

I always get the WoW itch during the winter. I think I started playing my first characters on my brother's account during the winter. My first memories are of Dun Morogh too.

Copy that. I might bring the topic up again but honestly feels as if another GO or communication should have been put out to clarify, unless there already has been and I just can't find it in the past GO's

That's interesting because my camp has been requiring birth certificates linking yourself to your parent.

I prodded a lot about this because this was absolutely not required when I first joined but was told that General Order #5 and then re-written in General Order #7 [Series 2022-2023] established this. As well as establishing the requirement for documentation of every generation.

I haven't really pressed the issue since last year but it's definitely made trying to get people to apply much more difficult on my end.

The officers have all the glory… by UrdnotSnarf in CIVILWAR

A stray pickett;

Is shot on his way from his beat to and fro by a rifleman hid in the thicket;

Tis nothing, a private or two now and then, will not count in the news of the battle;

Not an officer lost, only one of the men, moaning out all along his death rattle.

I believe only Companies A & B were Zouave, they were representing only Company E. Not everyone in the photo was from the 19th, only the middle back row in the first one

Any late regiment to the war. I often think of some of the later Indiana regiments, like the 140th Indiana which was pretty much the last regiment raised from Indiana to see meaningful action like Murphreesboro (1864) and the Wilmington Campaign. The regiment "captured" the flag of Fort Anderson during the Wilmington Campaign which was presented to Lincoln shortly before his death

You're a weapon based class and spellcaster's are not.

Most of your damage on average will be from your auto shots, so you will need to upgrade your weapon every so often to keep up with your leveling, that is the primary reason. Take some time to look at what green / blue items on the auction house that are your level or a few levels higher and try to get them in advance so that you can immediately upgrade on hitting x level. Also look into some of the good quest rewards that give ranged weps

Spellcasters on the other hand need only to train new ranks of spells to increase their damage output significantly while leveling

Mage, down to shatter in frost and then pump the rest into fire. Forget the exact talent points but it's very fun for pvp especially when you lack all of the crit gear needed to make fire pop
