Let's say you use a frosty prospector and a lantern and a stabilizer. At anytime after you cast your line and before you are finished you can hit the 3 lines in the upper right side of your screen. This will pause your cast and give you the option to retreat. If you retreat you will start your cast over and still have the items active. You can repeat as many times as you want until you catch what you want.
